Can't put Backspacer nearly that high. Vs and Ten flip a coin for 1st then Vitalogy, Yield, No Code and Dark Matter to round out my top 6. Riot Act and Binaural fall just outside but I love them.
Sorry, stopped at Destination Anywhere. It was a fantastic album, a true adventure in unknown places for Jon. It was different, but surely better than most of the recent Bon Jovi production.
I'm always fascinated by people who do these things in their cars....weird! Agree Pink Floyd is coma inducing. Queen are so over rated. What about The Doors and The Beatles!!
This was difficult to rank, but here it is: 9. Burning For Love 8. Love Lies 7. Get Ready 6. She Don’t Know Me 5. Roulette 4. Runaway 3. Breakout 2. Come Back 1. Shot Through The Heart Overall, I really love this album. I also liked the sound of Jon’s voice on this album as well.
Honestly, I am with you on Sugarland’s version of Who Says You Can’t Go Home. It’s very overrated. I prefer the version with just Bon Jovi. That’s mainly because of the instrumental part.
Okay, to start, this was tough because I love all these songs, so here’s my ranking from least to best: 10. The Price of Love (Don’t get me wrong, great song, I just like the other ones more) 9. Only Lonely (Sorry to disappoint) 8. To the Fire 7. Always Run To You 6. Tokyo Road (I love the feel to it, but I don’t love the beginning part that much) 5. The Hardest Part Is The Night (To me, this has like a heroic feel to it) 4. Silent Night (I love the feel to this one) 3. King of the Mountain (This song rocks) 2. In and Out Of Love 1. Secret Dreams (Underrated song, especially chorus and solo)
10. Mainline (still a great song) 9. Comin Home 8. Let Me Go Rock N Roll 7. All The Way 6. Goin Blind 5. Got To Choose 4. Hotter Than Hell 3. Strange Ways 2. Watchin You 1. Parasite Love This Album A Lot! 9.5/10
10. Kissin Time 9. Love Theme For Kiss 8. Let Me Know 7. 100,000 Years 6. Firehouse 5. Nothin To Lose 4. Strutter 3. Cold Gin 2. Black Diamond 1. Deuce (favourite 70's KISS song) I think this is a great debut album but its just the production is very poor and makes some of the songs have less power these songs probably sound better live but my 7 favourites are all stone cold classics and have great instrumentation I would give this debut a 9/10
My hot take: Love Is For Suckers & Come Out & Play are their best albums. Love 'em both. The rest of the catalogue is also none too shabby. Consistent band. Hot take 2: The Christmas album is an essential part of the aforesaid catalogue and no Twisted Sister collection is complete without it.
Love Is For Suckers I agree with, in fact I actually like it slightly better than YCSRNR :😱 I'll agree with the Christmas album to a point, I think every TS collection should have it but personally I only like about half of it
Erase the slate with Reb Beach on lead guitar is top five for me. Lightning strikes again is awesome as well. Under lock and key is number 1 for me. Back for the attack 2.
Saw Twisted Sister at the Wrexham concert with Motorhead in 1982. They were a complete shock to us leather clad Motorbike crowd who had no idea what to expect. They entertained though and got a good reception, then hell broke lose when Motorhead came out and the police enforced a turn down of the sound system volume as it was directed towards the local hospital about 1/2 a mile away. The football pitch turf got torn up and hurled at security.
Great takes! Some of mine - Out On The Streets could have been a very successful single for them... very Dokken esque IMO - I completely agree that they should have stopped the costume gimmick after Stay Hungry... there was no way they could top that album by staying the same... a new look may have helped them they way it helped KISS. - Burn In Hell is the best song on Stay Hungry - Still Hungry was completely unnecessary
Out On the Streets was the best suited song to be a single on that album imo... very catchy pre Chorus Yeah I think at latest they should have dropped the make up after Stay Hungry I wouldn't argue that! I'm torn between Stay Hungry, Burn In Hell, and the ultra underrated Don't Let Me Down Still Hungry could have been cool but I always felt like they were just going through the motions, the energy and anger that made Stay Hungry So great just wasn't there. I became a fan in 2004 so when they announced Still Hungry I was pretty stoked, but disappointed when it came out. My go to songs were always the ones they didn't re-record, Never Say Never, Blasting Fast and Loud, and Heroes Are Hard To Find.
My first encounter with Dee Snider was in 1989 when his book "Dee Snider's Teenage Survival Guide" started being published in the Soviet Union (I was born and raised in Ukraine, which was a part of the USSR those days.) This book was masterfully translated into Russian and published in a teenager's magazine. It became extremely popular among teenagers those days, and one of the very first vinyl records I bought for my own money was Twisted Sister album "Come Out And Play". Contrary to common belief I think this is a very strong album from start to finish and I would not change anything in it - unlike "Stay Hungry", which has some skippers. "Leader of the pack" was not penned by the band but it fitted the album to a tee.
No tracks from "Black Gives Way to Blue", "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" or "Ranier Fog"? Good as Layne Staley was (and he definitely was), AIC produced more brilliant work when they got back to together and brought in William DuVall.
Again, I love to hear your rankings - they're a little different to what I usually expect. 1987 was a difficult year for me ('nuff said) so I'm not sure where I'd stand with my own list. I had low expectations for Hysteria, but it turned out to be a great album. The problem was (for me), it broke Def Leppard in Australia. Before that, DL were much lower in profile here in Oz. When something becomes so massively popular, I start to turn off from over-familiarity. This happened with Hysteria. Wouldn't disagree about Appetite for Destruction. Even though I don't own a copy, it really shook up the music world at the time.
Love your commentary on this and found your choices really interesting. I cautiously agree about Slayer. To me they seem more like a "vibe" than a music group (if that makes any sense at all). Motley Crue are definitely overrated IMHO - a kind-of self-publicity machine. Bush went right past me without hardly bothering me. Maybe because (here in Australia) Green Day is not shoved down my throat regularly, I have an abiding love for "American Idiot". Pink Floyd and Queen are really over-exposed, and therefore I sympathize with your views on them. Thanks for passing on your "hated" list.
I'm not a Dokken completist so I wouldn't argue with your Top-5 rankings. I kept up with Dokken for their first five albums (plus Beast from the East) but the early 90's pushed pop metal aside, in favor of the likes of Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Metallica, etc. I do think "Back for the Attack" is an album that is carried on the shoulders of Lynch's guitar - both sound and riffs - even more than other early Dokken albums. Thanks for the heads-up about "Dysfunctional". I'll check it out.
I feel like you're my brother from another mother not liking Queen. Where I'm from (UK) everybody seems to love them, even people that don't do rock or metal music, but to me they've always been cheese personified, like dad-rock before dad-rock even existed. I'd put them in the same category of cringe as Paul McCartney. That whole nu-metal scene was pure shite but I did like one or two Limp Bizkit songs. I am partial to a bit of Slayer, despite not being the biggest metal fan. The band I wish would just fuck off is Metallica, James Hetfield with his permanently sulky face. Didn't know Kid Rock was still in the business. Pink Floyd are just boring, their brand of 'prog-rock' never somehow seems to become more than the sum of its parts, but Dark Side Of The Moon is lovely. Maroon Five always gave me the impression that they just had the contacts to get signed. The kind of band that had a small coterie of well-heeled friends in NYC that endlessly sang their praises amongst their affluent clique (cf. The Strokes). If I never have to look at Adam Levine and his bean-face again it will still be too soon. Motley Crue's music is just trash, made by a bunch of dysfunctional, amoral deviants. More than any of the other bands you mention they can just fuck off.
Interesting concept dude! Ya got me thinking. First thought is to release 4 KISS albums from this with different opening and / or closing songs. (The math involved complicates things). Sooooo....I have to think, consider, and pick and (got to) choose. Most likely I'll come up with 4 versions. Stay tuned.....
I agree with you all the songs you picked are great songs, especially “Love In Chains” by Paul, “See You Tonight” by Gene, “I Can’t Stop The Rain” by Peter and “Snowblind” by Ace BUT there’s not a snowballs chance in hell Paul and Gene would have let Ace have an opening track, must less the 1st 2 songs! So although I do agree with your choices for songs, the sequencing is way off, brother! lol
@donmurray8632 yeah, and I acknowledge the in the video I think. I built this album more so for what I think would make the best and not necessarily what would be realistic lol
I met CS in dec 1997. I was visiting family in Veracruz, Mexico. So i tuned mtv and the Listen video came up. I loved the song that much, that i buyed the album and considered to learn how to make music. Which i did for a long time. Greetings from Zapopan, MX.
I've only heard 5 Dokken albums. Tooth and Nail and Back for the Attack are definitely my favorites. Those two are fantastic and very close in quality for me. 1. Tooth and Nail 2. Back for the Attack 3. Under Lock and Key 4. Dysfunctional 5. Breaking the Chains
fantastic idea for a video! ace’s album is the only one I’m really familiar with but I’ve heard some of the stuff from my kiss ikons set! I’d give ace 4 songs but leave off fractured and switch it for New York groove. I’d give gene 2 and Peter one and Paul 3!
My ranking (without the solo albums, compilations and box sets) 1. These Days 2. New Jersey 3. Keep the Faith 4. Slippery When Wet 5. Bounce 6. Lost Highway 7. Crush 8. Fahrenheit 9. What About Now 10. Forever 11. Burning Bridges 12. Bon Jovi 13. Have a Nice Day 14. This House is Not For Sale 15. The Circle 16. 2020
@@themindseyecmh it was the first time i didnt enjoy the album from start to finish. (I just pretend this left feels right doesnt exist) From Bon Jovi to Bounce, I can listen to the whole albums without skipping. Even songs that I don't particularly like I can still tolerate. HAND just sounded different. I heard people talk about how Shanks tend to overproduce so maybe thats it. There are really only 2 songs that I like from that album, Have a Nice Day and Who Says We Can't Go Home.
@@themindseyecmh How Come guns N Roses were able to put out a double album, yet Bon Jovi couldn't? Bon Jovi clearly had a lot of strong material that didn't make the album "These Days" (These were not considered filler tracks, but songs that could have actually been hits.) I think John was a "yes man" meaning he always listened to record execs and record labels. He might have asked and the record company said no, so he didn't push it any further. In reality he should have fought back. Do you think Geffen Records wanted GNR to put a double album out in 1991? HECK NO! Guns n roses had to fight to get that double album out.
