I made a carom bank shot on the 8 to win in my league one night...now everyone fears me when they play safeties because they know I can carom shots. Lol. I have it on video too it's one of the best shots I've ever made in my life. 8 ball was just touching my opponent's 13 and I made it go off his 13 into the rail the bank at down on the other end of the table in the corner pocket. Caroms are nasty. I love them.

Do it with 3 kissing balls. If the object ball (the one you want to make) is offset, the dependent ball (the one that's going to matter) is the 3rd. If the 3rd is a kissing ball AND if it's set up on the correct side to "throw" the object ball - then you'll make it. If it isn't, then you wont. The 3rd ball doesn't have to be kissing (it can be the cueball), as you have shown - but you should have went one further by using a 3-kissing-balls example. And, while we are at it: Do you know about "squirt?"

First two scenarios not legal shots. You must hit away from the object ball when they are touching. The first one may not have been a double hit foul but the second surely was. Either way, not legal shots. And not good to try to pull on another pool player when you're gambling --- good way to get beat up!

Thanks I really enjoyed and found this useful, like your energy too.. I play snooker in UK, one shot which has caused me bother is potting the black when high on it also low. When I have feel I seem to adjust without any consideration for throw, its hard to get feel with all the different tables and cloths we play on every week in league. So I now know that when I use what we call FLICK to compensate I also enter into loosing the white as it causes further travel of the white. Good in some cases but if im trying to hold, the flick might pot the ball but white is lost. So what I get from this is being able to change the potting angle and only use center ball potting of white so I dont loose it an extra foot at times. We do play on tv style heated super fast more like ice rink tables so tiny uses of any spin are massive. Thanks again I hope this makes sense..

Would have been cool if you explained what throw is, how it works, and how to do it. Here you just explain the ball setup which is already obvious to the eye, shot it and say “and that’s throw!” … Thanks, i’ll have to look that up on RU-vid

50 years ago what you are calling throw was referred to as cling. Throw is the opposite of cling as it will take the ball i the other direction.....
@davidbehrens4760
@davidbehrens4760 9 месяцев назад
Cling is a type of throw, not the opposite of it. Specifically, cling is cut-induced throw that lengthens the angle at which an object ball will travel when cut. Spin-induced throw using outside English on a cut shot CAN have the opposite effect of shortening the cut angle, as you mention. However, cutting a ball with inside English will have the same directional effect as cling. In this case, spin-induced throw does NOT send the object ball the opposite direction.

while throw is definitely part of the game and is extremely important to learn about, this is NOT a good example man. What you've done there is a foul and here's why. When the balls are frozen together, it is literally impossible to shoot in the direction of travel and NOT hit the cue ball twice. You wont even feel it but you'll do it. You have to shoot off angle for the cue tip to get out of the way. No way out of this. I'm not just blowing smoke here or being critical, just an observation.

It is legal to hit through the object ball when they are touching. It will result in a double tap only if they were not touching
@mayorb3366
@mayorb3366 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for clarifying that. I've played with several pretty experienced shooters over the years who differed on whether it's a foul or not. So if your line of the cue is not in line with the direction of the ball, is that a valid throw shot?

any spin on cue ball wilt caused the target ball to bouce into table away fromtl pocket rattle effect. You must compensate for the rattle effect aiming down table when spin on the cue ball to get to your next lead shot. Way way too often players will say I don't know how I missed that. Because you had spent on the cue ball. Best analogies is it's like in junior high school when you have a combination lock and you twirl to the left then to the right to open. Is the same set of combinations on the cue ball that will affect the target ball a super big difference in going from a skill level 5 6 or 7 level is keeping in the back of your mind how throat will affect that ball when it goes down table

@@stardustie In Blackball and old rules in the UK you have to play away from a touching ball, you are deemed to have played that ball however so you dont have to hit anything else (other than the cushion of course). If you push, it's a foul, the same as if you double hit the cueball.

Back around 1980 or a little earlier I was playing at an all-ages hall and my opponent set up a throw shot like that and asked me to shoot it. I hit it straight on with spin and made the ball easily. He told me I did it wrong and showed he how to cut it at a steep angle. I told him I liked my way better, and still do, because the cue doesn't have to bounce around the table at high velocity.

You're both right! Two different types of -induced throw (cut and spin)! Also in the 80s as an FSU math and physics student, I learned how to make these shots by skipping a lot of class and playing pool in student union. Didn't know jack about playing pool, but was an amazing shot for six months (then didn't play again for 30 years).

yup. most of the examples he showed were actually foul shots. You must come at the cue bal at more than a 45 degree angle, or you WILL get a double hit on the cue ball that is too quick for the eye to see, but impossible to avoid.
