I’m a tile installer and I was curious if you could answer a few questions about this stuff. The work looks great but I’m curious how often you reseal it with the soap to uphold the waterproofing of the final coat? When I’m installing natural stone the sealer I use says it last about a year but I often see it stop working much sooner. Also, how easy is it clean? I would imagine it is quite porous. Does it get harder to clean as the soap sealer wears off or does the soap sealer give it a smoother texture allowing it to be wiped off like a semi gloss paint would?
Only 1 coat of micro? Wow. Usually you have 2 base coats of course sanding inbetween each, then 2 coats of fine or medium sanding inbetween each, then 2-3 sealers. And if your on wood you should have put down a fiber mech into the primer coat.
putting polyurethane over everything is pretty wild. Regulatory concerns: Many food safety regulations discourage or prohibit the use of polyurethane coatings on surfaces that directly contact food. Alternatives for food areas: Food-grade epoxy resins Mineral oil for wood surfaces Beeswax-based sealants Ceramic
Just found your channel, love the videos man! You've got a new sub from me. Had a question about your microcement vs Tadelakt experience. It seems like they give both a very similar look/feel, but its hard to tell over video. Would you agree? Any benefits to either? It seemed like the microcement was a lot easier.
Great video! How long did you wait between the two layers of primer? My wall is dark green, I’m wondering if should use another prep layer before using priming it? Thx!
How’s the floor holding up now that 3 years has passed. I got some microtek one coat, and tested it on a very small area, and after 24 hours I can still make an indentation on the surface with my finger nail, is this normal? I only tested it a small amount of powder and mixed it in a container, not sure if proper mixing would affect the hardness though…any idea?
Hi. Thanks for sharing about your project! Doesn't polyurethane nullify or even destroy the breathability of the plaster? Is the product it food grade?
Probably worth mentioning for other people watching this - the "magic trowel" or "squeegee" shouldn't be used to apply the product - you're making the job more difficult for yourself by doing this and you'll get a faster and more homogenous application with a stainless steel trowel. The "magic trowel" is designed for use after application - to smooth out the trowel lines.
You need a good troll just like you need a good paint brush you need a good troll that's broke in a taping knife has an arch in it to fill the joint so you don't want to use one of those
About to start this same exact project on a restroom restoration. I feel confident but I also feel lost. I want to purchase and follow everything you’ve done. It’s absolutely amazing!!!!!!
Next time can you promise me you'll wear better face protection when you are sanding indoors? Particulate matter will carelessly offend your half-engaged protections.
what i dont understand is what can you apply this to, as in, what is the wall supposed to be made of? can it be put on wood base, cement, sheetrock, etc
It looks great, but I don’t see how it could possibly hold up over time. A wood floor will deflect with foot traffic, and concrete doesn’t bend, even a little. Seems like you’d have cracks and chips within weeks. Is it holding up?!
