In this video, I walk through the process of Tadelakt in my studio bathroom.
The materials I used were from a company called Earthaus Plaster. (earthausplaster.com) For a more in depth look at the process from their team: • Earthaus Tadelakt Fini...

Thank you so much for the video. I have been trying to explain to my husband what Tadelakt is without knowing the correct terms. I experienced outdoor showers made this way in Tanzania and absolutely loved it. With the help of your video I will be able to redo our bathroom! Again thank you

Just FIY for those wondering, this is not Tadelakt. Tadelakt is an eco-friendly, extremely labour intensive finishing that is commonly used in Morocco and historically in Europe where natural plaster is polished with a stone. I know, it sounds crazy! I believe what is used here is a "modern" version of Tadelakt, that can be easily bought. Unfortunately not eco-friendly :)
@karahupp4589
@karahupp4589 3 месяца назад
Lots of companies make eco friendly tadelakt from the same minerals they were made of way back when. Did you talk to him and find that out or is it a guess in your part?

Yes! I’ve been searching RU-vid for ages having no idea what these style of bathrooms are called … I was inspired by what I saw in Greece on the islands , this smooth natural finish in interiors and particularly bathrooms. My own bathroom that came with the apartment I bought is an awful IKEA tile thing that I want to self renovate and your video has just given me the first glimmer of hope that it is possible. I have a lot to learn … I’ve got as far as ‘how to remove tiles’ but I need to also demolish part of an internal wall and get everything ready for this Greek rendering style. I’ll subscribe and look at the rest of your vids. Thanks !

1) Tile floor first (slope appropriately) 2) Some companies are suggesting a reveal between vertical and floor (capillary break) sealed with bathroom caulk 3) Lime-based plaster as opposed to gypsum or other 4) properly seal finish and reapplication every few months (no harsh bathroom cleaners)

We just did our shower like this!!! It’s sooo beautiful! We loved the dark so much we didn’t mix as much the last layer and kept it darker - it’s such a vibe! It was way more work than my hubby wanted but it’s finally done! Very labor intensive ❤Thank you for the inspiration Mr. Washington. We had a rock shower planned and as it sit in piles and we have a 2story , to go back and forth cutting and placing quickly became too big - this was the next choice 😅

Nice, we can’t get this kind of thing in my area or most others in the US. I want it so I’ll learn. I’m ok with the labor and multiple coats. It’s my house. I’m going to work on it constantly anyway. It’s similar to smoothed interior plaster and that’s surprisingly easy to learn.

This looks really beautiful although it’s not real tadelakt. It’s lime plaster that is waterproofed with olive oil soap…. Real tadelakt is limeplaster, that is densified by hand with a very small smooth stone - square inch by square inch so that in the end it looks like it has been glazed and has a real shine. The real tadelakt is very hard because of the density, almost like real solid stone.

Hey, it look amazing. We are doing this also but we use tales glue. You have the same result and much cheaper. First waterproofing the support then 2 layers of white tales glue and then vernis. We use it in bathroom and even in shower.

Hello Sir, many thanks for the video. I love it and the colour as well. I even purchased the same pigments for my future tadelakt project! I was wondering if you can give a recommendation on how to caulk the transition to ground tiles. Is this before or after soaping? And do you recommend first tiling or applying tadelakt on the walls. I hope you can give advice as I know you didn't use tiles. Thanks in advance.

Great video, inspiring as this is my ideal bathroom aesthetic, along with Cycladic/Mykonos villa-style interiors. Without looking at the Limestrong literature, I would have expected some hard-trowelling of the final coat when it was almost dry to help smooth and compact the finished surface.

I really appreciate your videos. In the near future I will be building a cottage with traditional materials (slip-straw, strawbale, cob, earthen and lime plasters, etc.), but for now I'm learning how to retro-fit parts of our main house with natural materials/processes like tadelakt. Thanks for sharing your experience and insights, and for great production value. One request: please raise the volume of your voice and reduce (or eliminate) the music. I would enjoy hearing the sounds of troweling, mixing, etc., and just the general ambiance. All the best to you, and congrats on building a solid channel.

Hey! I’m really wanting to redo our new home master bathroom like this. However, I’m concerned on how we can repair after tadelakt is applied and years later we have a leaking pipe. Can you repair it or would I have to redo the entire shower? Will leaks show through tadelakt, like how you can see wet grout and tiles falling off from leaking pipes?

A year on how is this holding up?? I’m desperate to try this on my new bathroom but people have told me it takes a lot of upkeep and I should be worried of kids finger marks 🤷‍♂️. Just wondering if you would do anything different and if you’re experiencing any issues. I was considering a shadow gap at the bottom of the wall to remove any chance of the tadelakt being exposed to standing water.

dont you have to presure the surface with a stone? I learnt that tardelak needs presure on every layer. Also after the oil you have to presure it again otherwise you lose the funktion after some time. Or do you use some advanced material with extra ad ons?
