Mister, you have made an amazing video not only showcasing the CS perfectly, but also clearly explaining some really useful concepts like ring modulation and oscillator sync. Impressive and inspiring 🔥🔥 thank you!!!
you've become my most inspiring OT tuber... simple technique, explanation and application. much appreciated! looks like you're in a classic Amsterdammer top floor there!
Really enjoyed seeing the making of this track. Nice to have music being made rather than just tech info or weird bleeps and bloops. Great job. Thank you.
I got my first music theory lessons at the age of 10. I am now 58 and still don't get it. I play around with music software and hardware for decades but this part of the hobby always shuts off my brain. Your video did help me, so thanks, but why is this so hard to grasp when I clearly understand so many other topics?
Thank you for this video! Which exact settings did you make in helix? For example, for a footswitch I entered in command center cc 36 for Track1 (in Octatrack) and the auto channel in the global settings. Nothing happens. Is there any special trick?
oh I see what happened here. To trigger tracks you need to send MIDI notes to the auto channel and not CCs (the 36 here refers to a note number, not a CC). So set the type of message for the footswitch to midi note and then send a C2 for example to trigger audio track 1. Of course you can also assign CC values to the footswitches. This will then just change the corresponding parameters on the octatrack. CC36 for example will change FX1 parameter 3. Hope this helps, glad you liked the vid!
I am very inspired by this jam and your talk, these boxes clearly allow for a lot of fun and my G.A.S. is growing which is not a good thing right now. Thanks a lot, hope to watch more of these.
One handy thing i discovered from a Ron Cavagnaro vid is that if you create a new synth from the song view (rather than a row in a kit), you can save these synths as discrete presets, which you can then quickly load into kits. Saves you from having to start each sound from scratch, especially if youre making a few sounds that only differ in decay or pitch, like hats or toms
Funny, I just did the thing with randomized MIDI melodies yesterday and was planning to make a video on it :) You are doing a great job explaining this!
Great vid. Probably a silly question, but why do you assign all tracks to the Microfreak (don't own an Octa, so no idea if there's any technical demand for it)? If I have 2 or more synths that I want to sequence, can I assign CCs to them on different channels? If yes, are there any limitations in this compared to assigning all tracks to only one channel/one synth?
Good question. I do it this way here because I only have the microfreak connected here anyways. Of course you can assign all 8 midi tracks to different channels and control 8 different instruments at the same time. There are no limitations other than the number of notes per track (4) and the number of lfos, assignable CCs, etc. When you're using multiple tracks with the same channel you get more of those, but at the same time you have to be aware of conflicts that might occur when you're trying to control the same parameter with multiple tracks. So there's advantages to both and which one's better really depends on the particular demands of your setup.
