Hey guys, my name is Danny and I love old BMWs (and cars in general). Join me in my never-ending journey to obtain and repair interesting cars on a budget.
I'm living in sunny Phoenix, AZ, with my cars. Right now I have a 2000 BMW 540i Touring, a 2003 BMW X5 4.6, and a 1996 Ford Mustang GT.
I didn't really spend much money at all, don't worry about it. I ended up losing interest in the car and selling it to a local 944 enthusiast for more than I had into the car since 944S prices had appreciated by then. He ended up swapping the whole engine wiring harness because rats had eaten it all up. If I had this car today I probably would've figured it out, but back then I barely knew what I was doing. Funnily enough, I did a full timing belt service on a friend's 944 S2 pretty recently, so I did get to experience a running driving 944 in (arguably) its best form with the NA 3.0L.
Im buying a bar thats broken for my wagon. Thanks for your video really helped

Hello Danny, hope this comment will reach you. I’m having issues with pressing vanos to correct gap measurements. I’m following all steps from Beisan System Processes of replacing o rings and pressing. After torquing vanos to 136 newton meters and full turn my gap stays the same. I have exactly the same vanos as yours m62b46 with metal inner part instead of plastic with 3 pins. My question to you and you are the only hope for me to understand if our vanos should stay with gap or I need to put more press to get to 0.02mm gap between the lip? And additional thank for all videos and explanations on the forums. Great job, hope to hear from you Regards
I'm still alive, just busy with running the shop. The black 530it got sold a long time ago, and the red 525i/5 got totaled in an unfortunate accident. I still have an E34 though so that's cool.
I agree! I had no idea what I was doing back then as far as RU-vid goes, I think I was just trying to make the videos longer for some reason? I'd do things a bit differently if I were to make videos again, but these days I'm super busy with running my shop.
I own a 540i/6 hellrot and this looks like the same color. And the fact it’s a wagon made me all the more jealous. Do you have an Instagram or Facebook to follow?
At the date of this video there are 3 generations of X5 with a couple of dozen engine options. The X53 is the first generation, this is very specific to the 1st generation and whatever engine it has.
Hard wire your fuel pump to test .once you do have a working pump pull out DME relay and prime fuel system 30 &87b hard wire that way your system will be full then put relay back in and she will run
Thanks for the videos, great job. I am going to have to do this very soon I'm sure. Just trying to get my other car rebuilt before this one leaves me needing a tow. She's way too sexy to give up on and I don't mind getting dirty. 176,000 on my 03
This wasn't really meant to be a comprehensive DIY, more so just my general experience with it. There are detailed DIY videos out there if that's what you're looking for.
Interesting video, really mate..the only thing I fucking hate is the loud music.......I watch those videos often on the telly......when the music stops and you speak you have to turn up the volume and turn it back down when you stop speaking.....it is annoying......but it was interesting. cheers mate
BMW's have all kinds of computers and sensors in them, since they are AWD,the computer senses through the transfer case the front drive shaft is out preventing transmission from going into any gear to keep from damaging the transfer case,no expert on these but to me that would make sense, since every think is computer controlled and not mechanically controlled!
Hi I got a quick question I have a 2014 550i xdrive and drove into a big puddle then the next day I started to drive it and my axles were clicking I and I felt like when I turned the wheel two both sides the car felt like the wheels were shifting or something so I changed the axles and now no clicking noise but I still feel the shifting could it be that water got in the differential or tranfer case have any idea what ghat can be?
X-drive would have worked as you were hoping. It starts with no power to the front and engages under load. I'm not sure how it figures out to keep the power off but I've pulled the front drive "propeller" from x-drive car before and it will run rwd. Flex disk aka giubo is pronounced Joo boh (named after joint in Italian, not sure why they didn't spell with J in English).
