Another middle-aged nerd decides to join the vinyl community to talk about music he likes. My sweet spot is 1980s and 1990s "alternative" but I won't limit myself to that genre.
My plan is to do about one or two videos a week. Generally I post them at 7:45 AM Central Time (U.S.) on Tuesdays and possibly other days. The Tuesday videos will be about my vinyl finds in antique malls & thrift stores (about twice a month), Five Rekkids, Five Minutes on the 50 states of the U.S.A. (once a month), and Five Rekkids, Five Minutes on years starting in 1964 and every fifth year after (once a month).
Other videos based on my whim and avaialable time will include reviews of albums, vinyl community contests & threads, and whatever else I have to talk about.

Hi Chris!! Cool and thanks for the shoutout too..... but you know what?? there are no freakin' norwegian-chilean musicians at all, well let's see what i can do to pull this of. cheers and be well
😂 well I never thought I’d ever hear the Norwegian goal machine Erling Haarland mentioned in the vc, extra points for that Chris! Iggy….. yes great minds think alike 😂 Mike
This was a stumper. Off the top of my head the only thing that popped into my head was "Song of Norway". It's about Edvard Grieg, but because my head is full of "Brady Bunch" trivia I remembered that Florence Henderson wore a wig through the 1st season of the show because she was filming "Song of Norway". I could show "Meet the Brady Bunch", but Florence isn't on that one. I'm stumped on this one.
Very good, splendid work Chris. You are not the first to pick Iggy, as if that would somehow disqualify, but Gregg Rolie, from such an amazin album, I’m very happy and impressed by that! He hails from Seattle and WA. Washington and Oregon’s Norwegian diaspora was quite a bit later than the rest, and many of them arrived during world war 2 and the nazi occupation of Norway, or the years after. Many Norwegian sailors, specially from the vast Norwegian merchant fleet seeked ports when they were stuck at sea in April 1940, and after offering their services to the British and Americans, opted to stay, more so in the Pacific North West than anywhere else. Thank you for doing this Chris! And dusting off the great Cubs cap! 😊 Best of luck!
@@RekkidTalkOne VC’er got ahead of both of you with Iggy, Rick and Records. He also revealed that Tom Waits has Norwegian ancestors, his mother Alma was one of those Oregon Norwegians. I did not know that…
I'm sure I have a Jan Garbarek album from 1971. I'm a Norwegian American but I have no rekkids from ME. My grandfather came from a now deserted village on a tiny island in the Lofoten chain. Mostad was the village.
Of course it does Tommy. Lip synching is where I draw the line, playing the lips, no problem. Also, no so called DJ’s who spins what I call Rohypnol music (the last thing girls in Magaluf hear before they wake up in a tub full of ice with a kidney missing) and nap is also a no-no. Bit of humour there. No Swedes please 😂
One of the dumbest vinyl videos I've ever seen. All I saw was walking and floors, no walls of vinyl to see what these shops had. Plus didn't even go to the good shops
Hi Chris!!! I have been to NYC many years ago and i think i visited Generation records, thought it was a cool place, went to other places, but can't recall how they were.... still manage ti get some cool cds. I think now NYC is not what it used to be and prices, that's another thing... cheers and be well
@@RekkidTalk They’re different. Come On Feel was the first album I bought of theirs, and I absolutely loved it. I always digged Evan’s attitude, he has a great voice. Seriously, that was some review you did. Really appreciated it. You’re a good guy.
Nice Chris. I was just at Generation Records in the Village a few weekends ago. I am about 2 hours by train into NYC, so go often. I always have pretty good luck there. Two levels of music madness! Village Revival is a good back up to Generation Records. Yeah, Record Runner is a mixed bag, and tend to skip it. 😎
Just wonder if you are now in 2022 with crate dighing videos, how much you have filmed since then and are still unrelased... Alternative action records is punk/hardcore label here. I think that it is unactive now, but they do still records (old stock, 2nd hand). Remember name Surfing dead boys.
I've only been to NYC once and didn't buy any rekkids. Earlier, on the same trip, I bought rekkids out on Cape Cod. Couldn't resist buying Dead Kennedys in Hyannisport!
Hey Chris. Thanks for taking us along. Those prices reflect high rents and high disposable income. Maybe better to plan your luggage around what you can bring back home. I always have a record bag that I can easily carry on the plane. I have a credit card with Westjet that gives me one free check in bag which I can also bring records home with me. Cheers.
Awesome job! I feel like I’ve heard of hum but not familiar with any of their tunes. J Mascas went on to be in Pink Mountain Tops which is one of the albums I showed. Thanks for entering!
Hi Chris!!! that was a very cool entry.... nice to see that old soviet "rock" band, i think there's a very "cool" music market in the former URSS (CCCP) that needs to be discover.... cheers and be well
@@RekkidTalk They actually have a pretty rabid following to this day. When they reissued Downward is Heaven on vinyl a couple of years ago it sold out In less than a half hour
Nice picks. Always fun to see Melodija release from Soviet Union! Actually just yesterday I bought three Melodija records from Soviet State of Estonia. Video is coming someday in August (filmed today, but can't upload until in wi-fi connection).
Looks very green where you live. Ah northern soul was quite working class (or blue collar you'd say) it wasn't just up north but maybe far less London centric movement. See if you can find some films about it I'd sent DVDs if you have a multi region player? I went to get a ton of rekkids in the week mostly crap but i decided I'd show them anyway so people can see what's typical crap here and then i can take them to the tip/dump.....
Hi Chris!!! Had no idea the Robinson's brothers came from a music family.... see there was something really cool in your video and the juggling balls too.... cheers and be well
I always took Northern Soul to mean the singer was of a Caucasian ancestry. I think that double throw will be easier if you start from regular pattern then add in one at a time
The northern in northern soul is for northern England, where a certain style of soul became popular in late 60s/early 70s. Usually the records called "northern soul" are by obscure African-American artists.
Very 70s style video... Did you cast your juggling balls to river? Just wondered that. Rare rockabilly singles would be cool - and Freddy's schlager single. You lucky man!
Lotsa goodies there! I like Kathy Young and The Innocents! The Innocents on their own did Honest I Do which is also also a fave. Chris Montez (on Monogram) is in the same bag (whatever it's called) always popular with lowriders etc... I don't know why but I fall hard for that stuff. My inner greaser I guess.
awesome,i have that thousand stars 45 by Kathy young and i have both Gee Whiz and Honest I do by the innocents,og 45 records too,i love billlboard hot 100 hits between 1956 thru 1963.
@@Wyoming_Dave I have Gee Whiz also and more Kathy 45s. An absolute favorite of mine is All You Had To Do Was Tell Me by Chris and/or Chris and Kathy. Stuff I can't get too much of.
I really like this format Chris: in and out! All great stuff, and I've been getting into more of Glen Campbell's 60's releases. Backsliders are new to me. 😎🎶
Hi Chris!!! so far so good and you have manage to show cool stuff and some very obscure music from what i guess "tough" states in the Union..... cheers and be well
I wonder do you still have active jukeboxes there in bars? That was quite a haul and a bargain price worth risking it. Lots stood out and of course this stuff rarely ends up over here. It's pretty rare to see even sun rekkids too. America sure feels odd and strange at times to me but I've never been there so I'd be glad it's technically the same language for a start.
Bars with jukeboxes tend to have modern versions where you are just playing mp3 files. I haven't seen an old-school jukebox in a bar in a long time. Yes, America is odd and strange. This box had a lot of stuff that you don't typically find. There's actually going to be a Part 2 with a few things I didn't show yet, once I get around to making it.
