Thank you for uploading this! I watched this sooo many times as a child and it made love trains, helping to make the person I am today. The music fits really well, and Dennis does a great job. I still watch this every few months ;)
I grew up in the 1950-1970 riding the Durango/Silverton steam engine trips! I remember Ah! Wilderness, the ranch/tourist nest right before Silverton. All destroyed in the floods years ago. Happy to see the trains running again.
Dennis was 74 when this was filmed in 1999. Narrow Gauge is still hanging on with a few people determined to keep that history alive. Interesting history on the Durango Silverton RR.
My dream vacation. This was fabulous. Wouldn't it be just pure joy, go to Durango and after a days rest, get some cheap burgers at McDonald's, put them in your pack, and ride the train to Silverton. Spend a few days in Silverton, getting a full look at the shops and businesses. A real treat would be if they had a fountain pen shop. Then ride the train back to Durango. There no need to go all around the world. We have it all, right here.
My father and uncle both worked for the D&SNGRR for 35+ years, and I grew up hearing the voice of Neal Reich over the radio. Great video, thanks for the upload!
This railroad along with the Cumbres and Toltec are very high on our to do list. We are fortunate to have four narrow two foot gauge railroads near us in Maine. The WWFRR also operates steam engines.
I know I love America By Rail. But uploading these clips on RU-vid is a bad idea. I'm basing this on experience (I uploaded some scenes and got in trouble with Greg Scholl about it). So I recommend not doing this.
Gotcha! I hear ya. But don't worry! I just set this video unlisted. Which means not in public, so that I won't get in trouble. You can watch this on the link below: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-22Evos-znLo.html
Thank you so much for uploading this. I've had this vhs tape since 1995 when i got it in durango at the train depot gift shop. I was 6 years old at the time and this was the best train ride i have ever taken. This has brought back so many good childhood memories for me. Thank you so much.
Wow, what an awesome film on the history of the train. Everyone should see this film. Very well done. Congratulations on a great job. Best film yet. 👍👍👍💫🚂
Hey James, I have a question: Several years ago the late Dennis Weaver hosted a video program about the D&SNGRR titled "Tracks Through Time". Do you have access to that one? If you do, I'd really appreciate you posting here on RU-vid. Thank you in advance.
