Gramps, caught the replay. So happy you’re getting some help at work! Definitely understand the selection process! Always fun watching you chat it up with your guest. Think you’re building a stacked team! Enjoy your Independence Day! Off topic youngest son just got a Garand!
Great looking setup, thanks for the overview of your build. I'm in a 120 PDL, but looking to upgrade to either an Autopilot or going with something like the PWR 129. The AP's Minn Kota does seem to be a bit underpowered, especially in a 136. What do you think of the Xi3? Is spot lock as accurate as Minn Kota's? What kind of top speed are you seeing with the Xi3 on the PWR 129? I don't need a speed demon, but hoping to get 4 - 4.5 mph. Appreciate it - tight lines. -Cody
I do like the xi3 over the minn Kota but the boat control in the AP is much better in the wind. I don't think the xi3 spot lock is as accurate. That said, I prefer the nk300 on the back for speed and current
Josh's story has a lot of parallels to my own. I really got back into tournament fishing with the knuklhed and team creek last year. I did absolutely horrible at guntersville this spring but won the Georgia monthly challenge for May and June and set my new PBs in June with a 24.5 and 114.5 total out of North Georgia.
hook size shouldn't matter. Where we get in trouble is setting the hook too hard and ripping a hole in their mouth, which lets them jump and throw the bait. I've had to learn to just lift and keep my drag pretty loose when fighting the fish to keep them pinned.
It’s so wonderful to see how all these outdoor people care so much for the conservation of our wildlife and our planet. Take only pictures, leave only footprints. 😊
Good video gramps , definitely like the story telling. I grew up just north of New Orleans with a canal behind my house. That’s where my love for fishing started. Running trout lines for catfish with the ole man. Then bass fishing when I got older. Anyway nothing beats those memories!!!!
I think its piss poor that with all the high end reels shimano sells they could not provide a proper maintanance sheet yet. All information you get is "put a drop of oil on all movin parts". Yeah, thanks for nothing shimano.
I’m the same Gramps. On putting my handle on the right on spinning. What kind of trailer do you have for your yak? I’m tired of heaving mine up on the bed extender. Greetings from Missouri
I've been through a couple of trailers, but currently running an actual heavy duty kayak trailer from FTK Trailers as I've had issues with light weight trailers carrying fully rigged kayaks.
I caught a 4lber this weekend with your snell knot, 3/8oz tungsten, 50lb power pro, 4/0 flipping hook and a pitboss. All my flipping fish have been hooked good ever since i switched to the snell knot. Thanks for the video
My son and I fish out of kayaks. Best thing I have bought for us are walkie talkies. We fish some lakes where cell signal is not great. A lake is a perfect environment for walkie talkies as every is at same level, there is no difference in elevation as there is on land. Plus, it is instant communication, no waiting for someone to answer phone. We have 3 kayaks and 3 radios.
I have a bad back... worked on cars for decades. I can lift but I dont want something thats really heavy. Ive looked around and cannot find the spec of how much it weights. If it's 80lbs I would be fine after a long day of work....drop in and fish till dark but the end of the day... I don't know if I wanna try to load something that's 120lbs. It looks heavy ever for a kayak.
Assembled Boat Weight with seat, peddle drive is 107lbs. PDL drive is 18lbs, and seat is 6. So you can remove those first and be closer to that 80lbs to load.
bought one last month while at BPS while with my brother in law. he was like "uhm dude that is $59.99, kinda risky knowing you and losing $20 jerkbaits" Me,"yeah I will be quite careful with it and the reviews for it are really good. plus they say you have to spend well over a hundred for anything else close to it." first day fishing with it I accidently over-reeled and the metal on the tie-on cracked the liner on inside of my front line guide. I didn't notice. next cast my line gets caught in that crack and line snapped. not a physicists so cannot explain the angle of release and speed of the lure to explain how.... my chad shad is currently located 35 feet up in a pine tree hanging over my boat dock. checking the shore after every storm hoping it will fall eventually. hooks are quite strong from my experience, still hanging on to that tree.
