A review and how-to channel with some Hobie content mixed in. I love building things and testing products so browse around and see what videos interest you. Thanks for the support!
Muy lindo kayak. Estaría bueno para viajes muy muy largos. 47:47 Ese ¨Gore-tex¨ se suele usar para salir del paso acá en América Latina. 🤣🤣 A disfrutarlo amigo! 💪
Do you know of any truck rack systems that fit with this tonneau cover when its folded up that are easily removable? Im looking to rack 2x 13' Kayaks ontop of the truck while towing a trailer behind.
Here’s what I got out of the video as a ginger: How tf does a Florida Man not know how to keep the sun off his skin, LOL. Thank you. I enjoyed the vid. I am debating getting the same boat, or maybe the tandem and actually learned a lot about thru your vid. Cheers, homie!
You need to invest in some ultralight backpacking gear for these long sails. Tent, sleep mat, sleeping bag should weigh no more than 1-2lbs. Reduce electronics, batteries etc because that yak was overloaded haha. Looks like you made it work for ya but could/should be a whole lot easier. Makes me want one of these yaks for myself.
Was overloaded for sure. I’ve since corrected the issue with a lithium battery, dry bags for the tramps and I stopped drinking so no need to carry 100lbs of beer! 🤣🤣
RC video shows a different install and instructions. With 2 screws to hold it on and crappy striker plates. Yours does not. Not sure what I want to do now.
Maybe their video was an older model of cover? Check the date on their video and mine and see if mine is newer. If so, they might have updated the kit.
Those are cool little trimarans but the windrider 17 is so much better. it's a drier ride for sure with more sail area and can handle rougher conditions. That thing is just a glorified fishing kayak.
I am about to put an Elevate Outdoor, Adjustable Louvered Steel Headache Rack on my 2015 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman 4x4. Do you think there is enough room along the cab side front bed rail to support both the headache rack AND this RC Tonneau Cover? Thanks for your time and reply.
I am not familiar with that product or the install. But the side rails for the TC go all the way up to the front of the bed. However, they aren’t needed that close to latch or secure the TC. You might be able to trim them down a little if needed for the headache rack install clamps.
Do those pontoons make a big difference? I have an outback I want to get the sail kit for. I don't think I want to carry around those extra floats though.
Yes. I would say they are essential for the AI due to the narrow hull. There is not enough weight, draft, keel or centerboard to keep the kayak from capsizing under 90° wind loads. The AKA/AMA’s (pontoons) keep the kayak stable under heavy wind. I don’t have experience with the Outback but it appears the mirage drive is used for the centerboard (we remove our drive to sail faster and drop a centerboard. It also seems the sail is smaller for the outback. So I imagine Hobie has it designed for their sail kit or they wouldn’t sell it. Final thought, I’d feel safer in an AI/TI. 😁🤘
@FloridaManTV Thanks a lot for the info. I'm having the same issue with my old Hobie taking on water. I also think it is the front hatch. I really enjoyed this video. God bless
There’s nothing this side of Heaven more peaceful than being on open water. Did my time in the Navy and loved being underway. I kayak fish on the coast, but now you’ve planted a seed with a sail. My first thought if I were to do that is a vacuum sealed bag for clothes/bedding (maybe a battery operated small device?). Anyway, I appreciate the love of open water. Anchors aweigh my friend👊🏼🎣
Thanks for serving in the Navy! I have since done some upgrades to the Hobie to make it more seaworthy. Unfortunately, I am not able to participate in this year’s Florida 120. It is this weekend but I have other obligations 😞 Get yourself something wind powered and set sail mate!
No issues, no damage, little water at the very edge of the bed, though the damn brushes never clean the top well enough. Wipe it down while it’s still wet after the wash if you don’t want dirt haze. 😉
What a great video! Where I live we are surrounded by lots of islands with rainforests, resorts, beautiful beaches, and calm, deep waters in between - so I've wanted a Hobie Islander tandem for years! I might start looking for a good second hand one .. Before I get too old to enjoy it! Thanks for providing the renewed inspiration ❤😊
@@FloridaManTV They used to be good. Now the fruit isn't worth the squeeze, unfortunately. Great video by the way. Listened to it on the drive home in our wonderful Panhandle traffic.
Educational video. The distance you traveled was valuable info. I’ll check out everything else you posted since then. Hope to find some videos of you sailing the hobie in rougher waters and the distances you get. Also if you install a bilge pump and your battery setup.
Bilge and battery have been installed. There are upgrade videos on the channel. I haven’t had a chance to get more seat time in the Hobie yet. Maybe soon. Thanks for watching and the support!
Trailer is subjective as anyone can find an old trailer and do a budget build on it. That’s what I did for my kayak found an old job boat trailer for $100 put about $180 into it which included new wheels and tires lights boards and pipe for runners and a new jack paint and new bearings. Turned out amazing and I have less than $300 into it
Really nice build. Only thing else I would do is paint the transom board so it doesn’t stick out so bad but you prob already thought about that. A year later how’s it doing?
awesome video:))), such a unique boat..! if you dont mind sir, what is the length of your amas? its height (from floor to top ama) and width? tysm! for the info and your time:) tryna to build similar type DIY ama for my hobie oasis. drive.google.com/file/d/1O3jNANJ7IuVuqlPQWwtjvTTmY89Dph-Y/view?usp=sharing

Great video! Love my 2018 AI! Sail Long Island NY. Hopefully Florida in near future. So, just so you are aware, there are girls/women who like watching your videos but you keep saying guys and boys. I'll keep watching but just wanted to let you know we are here too😊
thank you. Sorry it seems like I failed to include the ladies but it wasn’t intentional. You gals are welcome to sail with us anytime! 🤘 Thanks for watching. I appreciate the support!
I'm just now watching the video (again) but here is a MUST KNOW about flat straps. Put twists in your straps so they don't vibrate in the wind. THE VIBRATING CREATES HEAT AND ACTS LIKE A SAW AND WILL CUT THROUGH YOUR KAYAK Never crank down on a plastic kayak it just needs to be held in place.
Stability is crap. I have never fallen off, and fish alone mostly. But not fun with two people as you always feel off balance. Good for shallow water but if your serious about fishing, just get a small bass boat.
How easy is it to remove the cover? Just undo those clamps and pull it off the track? I like how easy my soft cover is to remove and reinstall but love the look of the hard cover.
Just curious why you didn't just adjust the bunks instead of spending money on the cradles. I'm just going to add tow straps between my bunks to keep mine from falling between them.
