Too much Fish Finder for a kayak? You decide! I added a monster fish finder to the Hobie Adventure Island. Maybe I can catch fish now!

Too big? Naw! One thing to test is how responsive the touch screen is when it gets wet. Some of those touch screens can jump around when rain or water gets splashed on them, like a toddler aimlessly poking at it. Second, if you have'nt completely locked in your final resting place for the head unit, I have a suggestion that could solve a few of your current issues. If you can source a 4"-6" section of 16 gauge SS sheet or 1/8" thick aluminum sheet, you can get it bent with a 90 and trim as needed to make an nice tight, low profile mounting bracket that is glued and bolted to the vertical face inside your side pocket. The 90 bend would put the flat surface aimed away from the pocket outward. I always use SS bolts with a SS fender washer and SS Nyloc nut to clamp things in place. By moving the head unit forward to the pocket area it will still be within reach, free up more area for you to paddle, and it will also give you more room to get into and out of the kayak on that side if you needed to.

Awesome tips as usual man! Thanks. So far it doesn’t seem to be as big an issue as I though it would be. I enter the kayak but hopping on the center hatch before sitting, so the placement works for now. I lean it forward and down on the RAM mount so paddling gently at the dock was fine yesterday. As for rain, I am sure I’ll find out soon. But you made me realize I need to keep a hand towel in the kayak to wipe it off if needed. As always, I appreciate the support! Thanks!

@@FloridaManTV A buddy of mine was all giddy about getting a Lowrance unit with a touch screen, but really hated using it when we were fishing in our sloppy ocean settings, or anytime it rained. As the water droplets hit the screen it was like little fingers constantly touching it. I am old school and not as attracted to shiny gizmos and latest tech. I started out in 2008 with an Eagle Cuda 250 fish finder that has crude GPS mapping. It's small, waterproof, floats if knocked overboard, and runs for four 8hr days on a single 7Ah 12 battery. Since then I have scoured Evil Bay and picked up a few more used for my other kayaks. I wish Eagle/Lowrance would bring them back out.

I can only hope Garmin has solved this problem by now with the latest tech. It’s one of the newest units so, we will see. Caught in the rain is gonna happen sometime this year. 🤣

@@FloridaManTV There is not much more room on a TI. I am working on my TI to install all that stuff as I write to you. So far, I figured out the room for two large coolers and solar panels. Small boats can be a bitch... 😆 🤣 Thanks for sharing 👍

That’s part of the fun I think though right? #smallboatproblems 🤣

Man I only have a 4.5" screen on my 41' boat lol

🤣 yeah, it might be a bit overkill. However, i was thinking I can move it to any new boat I buy. So, but what ya want once and be done. We’ll see if that works out (you know me).

Short stocking it lol. Nice video, I am trying to install the same fish finder on my AI and probably gonna go with the same arm for the reansducer. How is it so far any issues? Or should I go with the berleypro cover but that thing sticks out on the bottom.

I have had no issues with the arm for the transducer. In fact, I bought another one for my jon boat and swap my Garmin between boats.

I just sub-support you, man. Do you consider hooking up a 2HP motor in the future?
@FloridaManTV

Thanks for the sub-port. 💪 I am going to leave it a sailing vessel. It already sits so low in the water I have had to do some mods to carry weight. A motor may be too much for the old girl.
