Techniques tailored for the physical limitations and challenges common to older grapplers. Remember, youth and skill are no match against old age and treachery!
Mostly with the gi. As we age, especially in our mid to late 60s, its important to slow down the rolls in order to avoid injuries. I find training in the gi helps to slow things down. For me, the goal is to stay on the mats for life, and injuries are an old grappler's kryptonite.
Any issues with arm length? I got the short T-Rex arms. Also: this rocks. 40 year old former Greco wrestler (current BJJ purple belt) here who LOVES the Stockade, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Yes, arm length could be a problem. Also, it could be a problem if the person on the bottom is significantly stronger and can over-power the person on top and pull their arm out. ……but then again, given enough strength, strength will overcome any technique.
HOLY S*IT! Could it be done without taking the gi out like that? Maybe pinch the gi with the hand to lift him up a little so you could actually gather the legs?
At 67 years old, it's difficult for me to get anything to work against "legit black belts" . Just staying on the mats is a chore in itself. ....I'm more interested in seeing what others can do to improve and refine this technique and then share it. If the technique works for some, I suggest they use it. If it doesn't work, I'd suggest they don't add it to their game.
So when a bottom player decides to open his guard butterfly hook you and sweep you to same side you have your arm. Then what? Maybe, maybe a white belt would fall for that, but thats about it.
I suppose you’d defend it the exact same way you would if you were attempting an Ezekiel choke from the top and the bottom player tried to get in a butterfly hook. How about you experiment with the position and figure out possibilities worth using and then report back with useful techniques that can help us older players over 60 years old, so that we can still stay on the mats, even into our 70s and 80s. I’m about to turn 68, so any technique I can manage that can help me stay on the mats for the rest of my life is helpful. And, fyi, it ain’t all that easy staying on the mats as an older grappler, but we give it our best with the physical limitations that come with age.
@@bjjforover60yearsold86 are your feelings hurt. 🫢 im sorry, i disnt mean to. You post a video, open it up for comments then get booty hurt, when someone sees it differently. Thats no bueno. I stand by my comment sir. Theres holes in it. Thats it.
Yes, as I mentioned at the start of the video where we’ve seen the position from side mount top or half guard but never from being in someone’s closed guard. I’d be interested in seeing other people’s experience experimenting with it, possibly adding more options and improving the position.
I tryed this last night from inside closed guard. I must have done something wrong. I was unable to hold my partner's arm as you show in this video. He was able to lower his arm.
Try putting your hand closer to the elbow and not completely in the armpit. You'll need to crank the neck a little also. You'll have more leverage the closer to the elbow. Stay on your toes also to keep pressure on your opponent.
Added to my arsenal and my list of channel subscriptions! Man, rarely do you find so many jewels in one vid. This can change an entire game for someone. Wow!
I'm always looking for old man techniques! I'm 58 and 155lbs, I'm always getting crushed by the bigger younger faster stronger guys at the gym. So glad I found your channel!
Thanks for the channel! Subscribed for a while now...would it be possible for you to cover some good gi takedowns for us older gents? I'm a bit slower now and double-leg shots are not an option for me any more...PLUS, I don't want to just end up on my back pulling guard...sometimes, once they're on top it can be very hard to reverse it...
Glenn hold a Seminar Today at our Gym in Germany - bjj Amberg. He is awesome. Great Guy with Lot of knowledge. Legit Guy who helps the bjj Community. Thanks a lot
Understand, but for GREAT for self-defense...**assuming you're on the ground (bad idea) and assuming there's only one bad guy (that's good) and assuming there are no weapons...(hopefully he's drunk) LOL
Because the other injuries suffered while rolling are not needless....this is an interesting move, explore with your partner and be smart using it when you roll.
You do have control with your foot.. I've used it and never hurt anyone.. also I've simply let it go if the person isn't tapping just so I don't have to add the extra pressure that may hurt someone. You are right though, you do need some discretion when doing this.
