I teach people about cars (and buy as many as I can in the process) :)
My goal is to buy various cool cars, fix them up, and make videos about them. I’m based in Houston, TX so if you see me driving around (probably faster than I should be) make sure to say hi!
I’m not doing RU-vid for the fame, views, or money (although that would be a perk). I just like cars and if you do too then feel free to join me! :)
My first car was a 1990 Miata and between the brake line and the master/slave cylinder, I probably have a muscular imbalance in my legs from the amount of pedal pumping I had to do 😂
My only question is how do you make sure you don’t leave air in the lines? You have to take your foot off the brake when you go to tighten the bleeder valve. Causing air to siphon in from the bleeder right before you go to tighten it. Locking air in the line; causing brakes to feel spongy. Unless I’m totally wrong which is why I’m asking.
Last time i checked your brakes shouldn't just get air, if they need to be bled randomly you have a leak somewhere letting air in if all of your calipers and lines look fine before just adding fluid see if the fluid level is low in your reservoir if it keeps getting lower likely your master is leaking inside which can ruin your booster aswell
Sure that’s bleeding a break system but the reason for the squishy feeling in the brake pedal is because the brake pads have gotten thinner and those need to be replaced soon. Thinner brakes equal more fluid needed to push them against the rotors which equals squishier brakes. Dummkopf.
Can't spongy breaks be a sign it's time for new pads? The extra room the pads give as they wear down shows up in the extra room for the pedal to move. Could just need new brakes
Also a line could be leaking, issue with the caliper, lots of reasons. And you never let the pedal release with the bleeder open. Youll either suck air up into the lines, or pull the old fluid back into the caliper, and youve achieved nothing. Stupid video. Unless youre gravity bleeding or have a one-man bleeder tool, you just wasted your time and mixed the new fluid with old shit and air. Learn about wtf youre doing before instructing others on how to do it incorrectly
If your brake pedal is squishy, there is most likely a leak somewhere, it could also be an internal leak caused by bad brakemaster. Don't go cheap when it comes to your breaks and don't take any shortcuts too.
There's nothing quick about this fix...never has been. This is a 'well I don't have anything to really do for the next few hours' kind of job. On top of most folks don't invest in stuff like Jack's and other stuff for minor car work. A rename of the video would be a great idea.
No, it is NOT time to bleed your brakes. The brake system is a closed system, meaning that air should NEVER get into it...unless you have a leak. If you do, and you brakes get smushy, you need to find the leak...usually the master cylinder seals failing. Your shop will them repair the issue, THEN bleed the brakes and you will be safe once again. Beware of idiot youtube mechanics and especially AI.
If I push my brakes too hard, my whole vehicle dies for a split second before everything returns to normal. Have had this problem 2 years and nothing has fixed it lol.
