Bend is pretty *MEH* for enduro riding. Phils is incredibly flat, and the area is generally very cross country. With the exception of what you rode, tylers traverse, and bachelor, it is incredibly average when compared to other areas. Hood river to name a better destination in oregon
It took over a decade to get the tline bike park approved due to multiple lawsuits by the USFS and environmental groups. Meadows facing the same issue. Trail crew is heavily restricted and can’t even move a rock or dirt around without prior approval process that takes longer than the 3 months that the bike park is open. Re-align just got approved for a rebuild and they are adding 20 blue features to it. So far they have a couple 12ft tables a a few step downs with one that you can boost pretty deep. I also heard that the bike park manager was stepping down and the replacement is a dude who built up bachelor. Hopefully it gets better. Gondola also got approved so once that is complete the the grand plan says that they could be a park that connects tline and Summit ski area. Plans state that the summit ski area is gonna have a “slope style course.” It’s clear of snow longer and dirt is much better down there.
I am going to be in Hood River some where between July 18 and 21 just because i could see the historic Columbia river highway. i love riding the old railways and highways, but i also come from a bmx freestyle back ground, so i am going to hit all the trails that i can. probably going to hit the skate parks as well. thanks for the video man, it is much appreciated.
That’s Rad! I just got back in to cycling/mtb after a 20yr hiatus. So much has changed. Definitely want to try Hood. I’m assuming the trails are ranked like ski runs? I would for sure need to ease into it with green circle. Thanks for sharing!🤙
Wow. The masks outside at the top of a mountain just kills me. My god. Other than that, amazing video. I used to ride there. Grew up in portland. Raced in a downhill event there one time and realized I was lucky to make it out alive. I wrote a few checks my skill level couldn’t cash. But so much fun.
How’s the clutch on the derailleur? I’m hoping to make may bike a bit quieter with this upgrade. I would be going from nx to X01, is the clutch much better?
I'm hoping to check this out this summer. The freeride section looks really fun, but maybe a little less enticing if you can't just lap it top-to-bottom. ✌️
Can I use a new GX rear derraileur with a 10-52 X01 cassette, a X01 or a XX1 chain with a new GX cranckset? What do you think about this configuration? Is there a difference in terms of functionality between the new GX and the new X01 derraileurs?
I totally recommend going with the GX rear derailleur and the XO1 cassette. I think that's the ideal combo for cost and weight savings. The chain is a matter of personal preference, and in my case vanity because I wanted to get the black one. I'm still running my old GX crank set, so you'll be good with that for sure.
Nice review, buddy! I just ordered my 10-52 XO1 drivetrain ( minus the cranks)! I've tried them on some friends bikes, and they're much better than GX! I've owned GX for over a year, and believe me on that.
Nice video man! Looking forward to checking out some footage with the new camera. Hoping my hand will be healed enough to start riding again soon cause 4 weeks off the bike has been rough.
Thanks! No gimbal, just in-camera stabilization. Seems to be the sweet spot for me for decent footage, and less bulk. After all, I'm out there to ride first and foremost :)
I'll have to give it another shot cuz I was up there about 7-8 years ago and any trail not in the woods, which wasn't much, was more like rock bouncing since the rain has taken all dirt away.
hell yeah dude! i live in portland and i'm up at skibowl nearly every other day!. its a SUPER good place to learn general bike handling skills. it doesn't have a ton of variation but it has some of the gnarliest trails in the pacific northwest, no doubt. ridgeline to cannonball to pro line to cat II to firehydrant is the route the PNW cup takes place on and it's one of the most grueling, fastest dh races in the area. skibowl isn't the best place to snowboard or ski but when the summer rolls around, i'm up there 24/7. so sick to have such an awesome place so close to home! I take it this video was recorded near the beginning of the summer tho as the trails today (8/29/2020) were absolutely blown out and there were no damp trails in site.
I went for my first downhill experience a few weeks ago and had a blast. I was thinking this had to be some of the more gnarly stuff lmao. But also keep in mind you can just loop the top lift instead of going all the way down and imo i was getting more runtime and less lift time that way.
@@RedValleyMilsim yeah actually last time i was there, i realized i dont need to goto the bottom to loop the upper half which is sick but honestly i like the lower section more. the last table on fire hydrant is addicting
This was my first experience and it got me hooked. Shout out to the random dude who helped me and gave huge tips when i accidentally took trail 2 the first time down. 🙌🙌🙌
I've been doing something similar lately, but taking Spaghetti from GP up to Mitchell Ridge. When things get as dry as they are, I find Mitchell to have a lot better dirt than Kleeway. I get really sketched out on Kleeway when it is super dry. 😬
@@NeverProMTB Super dusty. I just threw a couple of videos together. Had to keep a bit of distance between riders to see the trail. Worth the run through. Rode through (most of) Cat II and Send it. Think that gap on Send it is mine next run!
It is breathtaking, for sure. I actually like the views better than from Timberline since it is further back from the summit. I'm guessing it is about 25 minutes from top to bottom for me. #sluglife
Kelly I was watching these videos, and realized you were the guy I did a lap on the cone run with, last Sunday at Bachelor. Small world!! Your videos are great!!
Thanks for the suggestion, but I couldn't do a better job than the guys over at Park Tool. Checkout their video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UkZxPIZ1ngY.html
Nice video. I like that one for after work too, except I usually head to Mitchell Ridge from Spaghetti and then do some Kleeway laps. Good choice in trucks too. Mine's black.
@@NeverProMTB I actually noticed your truck in your spot yesterday. I tried to do my usual ride but saw 8 track is closed, so maybe an alternate route video is needed. I just got a Hero 8 black and I'm planning to start a channel, so let me know if you want to collaborate.
@@joshowen2372 good eye! If you take Baby GP up, then cross the road, that takes you past the closed section of 8 Track. A collaboration, or just meeting up for a ride would be great!
I'm currently on GX 11 speed with 11-46t sunrace cassette. Upgrading to Eagle X01 new derailleur and shifter (52 teeth) with e*Thirteen 9-46 cassette. Also building a whole new bike. How do the derailleur and shifter compare to GX 11 speed?
If the shifting is any smoother, I can't really tell. If I was going to do it over again, I'd still go with the XO1 cassette for the weight savings, but drop back down to the GX for the shifter and derailleur to save a few bucks. What made you choose the e*thirteen cassette? I haven't tried any of their components yet.
@@NeverProMTB Honestly, I gave e*Thirteen a shot because they were west-coast based and seemed to have a good following. I had an issue with their cranks, and they were super helpful customer service-wise. Then, I realized I had a Pro Deal through ExpertVoice with them, and ordered the cassette (with chain and conversion kit), carbon bars, and plus stem. The alignment graphics were crooked on the handlebars, and they refunded them :) Haven't used any of the new stuff yet, but I use my bike for commuting, so a 32t oval with 9t rear cog will help keep speeds up. I see a lot of your videos are in Oregon. I live in Portland! I like that the X01 uses the ball bearing for the shifter, along with the metal lever and red colorway. Suppose the vanity and promise of increased durability wins out for me.
Good customer service goes a long way with me. I definitely believe the x01 claims of durability, just not sure that I'll reach end of life on a GX. YMMV. I'm based in Hood River, so more Portland area trail rides to come!
Thanks! That was all shot from a chest harness, with the camera mounted upside down on a j-hook so I could angle it up to compensate for leaning toward the bars. For the most part, I have moved to a chin mount on my full face: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RpE9Qgr2mYE.html
