♡ Welcome! If you love vintage waves and curls, you've come to the right place!
I use both modern and vintage hair techniques in hairstyling and this channel will teach you how to use these tricks and tips at home. These tricks and tips can be used in lots of different applications to form hair as you like it.
I dive deep into the history of beauty on the 20th century and love to share what I find in my research.
I dressed vintage for a while a few years ago. I started working a physical job and can't/don't wear a vintage hairdo. I didn't dress vintage for a very long time because of this. I'm still working a manual job, but I've been sewing my own vintage outfits for a while now. When I was on my hiatus, I wanted to try a hairstyle that was very popular when I was in highschool, 2012-2015. I decided to shave the side of my head. I was going for like a skrillix look, or Avril lavine or something. I've had it for about a year but I don't much care for it, so I'm trying to grow it out. I have an area about 2-3" radius around my left ear that was shaved. It's still very short, and I've been doing a middle part to help cover it as it grows back in. Do you have any tips for vintage styling while this grows back in? Or just curl, fluff, center part and use a snood? The rest of my hair goes past my shoulders about 2 or 3 inches.
I love an electric Marcel iron. I’ve been using them since 78 when my Cosmo instructor insisted we only use one. Your tutorials bring me back to Mrs Moodys class. Love it!
I think the colored hair looks so much prettier because they still style and present themselves in a very neat way. Nowadays, most people will pair their colored hair with face piercings and tattoos. I mean, if you think that is pretty then fine but personally I think that is a bit off-putting.
I’m completely fascinated, thank you for sharing your research. How did they not destroy their hair back then with the bleach? I remember getting my first bleach job in the early 90’s as a teen, in an expensive salon and boy did they ruin my level 5 hair… it was a horrid light orange/yellow brassy, and they didn’t use a toner to my knowledge. I had saved up my money for so long lol. A couple of months later I went back to brown, my tail between my legs 😂
Good question! They actually kinda did ruin their hair if they bleached it too far past their natural hair level. This look was a lot easier for women who were already natural blonde.
@@LaurenRennellsahhhh now that makes sense! I always wondered how Marilyn didn’t ruin her hair, being a natural brunette. Although I think her hair had a golden undertone? She didn’t have all that red to get rid of.
So that's why lots of elderly ladies love those colours? I grew up just assuming that they just worked really well on grey and white hair (and tbh? They DO look great.) It's cool to learn that there is history to it.
I have to say these pastels shades are a lot less jarring to the eye at least, softer and definitely a step up from the harsh "Halloween" colors that have been around way too long. I remember some of those Roux shades from the 60s(?) Love seeing those jewel shades on the darker-haired ladies also.
So the next time some one says something sideways about someone's hair I can say it's literally been a popular fad in our culture since at least the 50s? Amazing
OMG! Your videos are completely amazing! I’m struggling with my hair!!!!! I find today’s majority of hair stylists have tendency to cut… style and shape hair one way and it varies with each stylist. Your work is diverse and original! FRESH! I simply love your work!!
I am in my later 60’s and my hair is thin. I am going to grow my bangs out. My hair was very long and I cut 14” off. Now my hair comes to my collar bone. Can you do more videos using pin curls for thin hair. I’m trying pin curls in my hair for the very first time tonight. I only had bobby-pins. It doesn’t look good. We’ll see what happens in the morning. Now to find my scarf. Loved your video.
I am definitely a 1950's/ 1960's Short Permed Girl!!; and I loce Bubble Bouffant Hairdos and Bubble Perms. I would like to try some of the Winged Hairstyles, And Flips❤🎉😊
Thanks for the tutorial and links! I plan to style mine this weekend in prep for Viva, but do you have any suggestions for traveling with it once it's styled?
Lauren… I would be very interested in your opinion of "what IS pinup hair"… Is it a shoulder length long hair style or is it Marilyn Monroe Bob? I'd love for you to do a show on what you define as "pinup hair"… When I look at the paintings of Vargas I see girls with at least shoulder length hair…
Oh man. I believe “pinup hair” should not be used to describe a hairstyle. 😬 Hope this doesn’t upset people. It is such a vague term and leads only to confusion for the very reason you just mentioned. Marilyn Monroe was a pinup model, so is that pinup hair? Betty Grable’s famous legs images with her hair in a big poodle puff was a pinup image, so is that pinup hair? The Vargas girls mostly had longer her in loose waves, so is that pinup hair?
@@LaurenRennells Just found your channel. Really enjoying it. I miss women's glamour and femininity of eras gone by and I try to incorporate that glamour in my everyday life now… Right now I'm growing my hair as long as I possibly can and kind of doing a long medieval curl thing Guinevere hair… But I've had my share of Marilyn Monroe hair.
In the middle 1970s 1976 when punk rock started the rue fanciful colors were the only ones that were available if you wanted party color hair and eventually later I think in 1980 manic panic started party color hair color… But I remember the hair color charts from the Beauty supply
