Can you use any stick found somewhere outdoors? I finally found the perfect spot for my monstera but after a lot of growth it looks like a jungle of mess. This was a great video to teach me how to fix that.
Not really. You have to prep it. I would suggest looking into aquarium channels and blogs to read about 'how to prepare wood/found wood for an aquarium" otherwise the stick may rot quite quickly. Different pieces of wood have different levels of rot resistance as well .
I found with my rescue I could also train the leaves to face forward with some help of some ribbon gently tied near the leaf neck and back to the pole. Along with a vertical grow light I was able to eventually release the ribbons and had a very "organized" looking monstera. But I also have some droopy, less hardy, less full looking leaves, that I think are what makes your re-arranged monstera example as reading less attractive.
Love this, thank you! I’m going to look into a heat mat and those lights. I have a young white bird and I would love if I could get it to bloom in a few years! I live in Wisconsin. Also that sunroom! I need that.
All my IKEA and home depot plants have died. My IKEA monstera came with root rot, and now I'm propagating 6 cuttings of that one monstera. What other places would you recommend to get plants from? I just want a plant to survive for once ):
You can get good plants from clearance racks, but you have to be careful to select healthy ones. My $1 zz plant was only there because its root ball had gotten so big it had shattered its pot (it's now 3 feet tall, lives in a 2 gallon pot and needs repotting again soon), my paddle plant has nearly tripled in size (it was $3), and I picked up an orchid in perfect condition for $1 because I happened to be there right after Mother's Day just as the clearance stickers were being put on (orchids are often put on clearance just because they've finished flowering). Not all my rescues have gone so well, and you do have to keep an eye out for pests, but it's possible to get perfectly healthy plants from clearance.
Is there a reason I couldn't make multiple cutting of the monstera and root them all back in the same pot? I've googled, but I can't tell. I think I'm just going to do it and see what happens. I've got two of these unwieldy beasts, so if I lose one at least I've got another to know what not to do with haha
way to make me get up off my @ss and go find an actual *log* to support my monstera instead of the crummy, wiggly old moss pole I'd been using. 😂 I also have a pothos climbing up an old apple branch, and the wood blends in so much better than the coir or whatever covers a moss pole, but going outside is hard lol
Bruh.... i feel so called out during the bagain bin portion of this. Idk why but seeing a struggle plant bounce back with big juicy leaves is so gratifying for me. But i will be more careful from now on, cause once i got an orchid that had a virus 😢
@@Beepbeep_its_treasure could be lack of light or the roots might be too wet for too long which creates an environment where root killing bacteria thrives. Could be not enough roots to sustain your foliage. Could be something else.
I desperately need to repot as the pot it is in in bursting but I have a big issue. My Monstera used to belong to my Dad and it's almost Twice as Big as I am. It got lots of Aerial roots and I'd assume I massive root ball. I don't know how I can get it out of there safely and into a new pot within the rather confined space of my balcony.
Brought mealy bugs home on a big box store Monstera. Luckily I quarantine new plants so they didn’t spread to my other plants. I failed to eradicate them so in the trash it went. Lesson learned.
very helpful video! can you tell me which grow light is the one you glimpse when showing the monstera? it is the kind of tall and elegant growlight i am looking for but I can't find any around, I would appreciate it very much, thanks! also, a video dedicated entirely to grow light would be interesting not many can be found, just a few mentions here and there and usually little importance is given to grow lights from an aesthetic point of view but I think for many of us plants are part of the decor so why use lamps that look like they are dedicated to plant nurseries? :D
Ohhh mannn 🥴 I’ve definitely learned my lesson SLOWLY but surely with all the clearance/ rescue plants I have! This is really great advice! Wish I had known sooner! Haha!
I always find that most houseplants need more light than what the store tags claim! So I tell friends to give more light, and to acclimate them slowly to their new amount of light.
I assume with aritificial lighting I don't need to stress to much about that number?? Watering part is what I always struggling with, I just ran out of soil so when I restock I'll grab the pro-mix HP and use that going forward. Thanks for all the great knowledge share and for always looking cute while doing it 😊
As long as you use insecticidal soap and repot as soon as you buy it you good I most of my collection is from clearance and I saved all of them and I was beginner and pest free just fungus knats
Always mix your own, i'll die on this hill. Plant choice isn't the only factor. Your home humidity, your fert schedule, your watering schedule, whether or not you have adhd (i do, it really matters for your ability to make certain schedules work), there are just too many variables for store bought mixes.
