If you own an aquarium, hang some air roots into the aquarium and watch the monstera grow like crazy. It will also help to keep your aquarium clean as it filters a lot of nitrates from the water.

It’s so satisfying to reset plants. It makes me happy seeing people like you showing others that they don’t need to be afraid to change things up. I’m definitely team one stem for a “pot” with these guys but I use tall vases and can place other plants in similar setups around them to create a fuller look. I also find the extra height to add more stability for anchoring the support Speaking of support, yours looks amazing. Love that look.

@aplantprocess
@aplantprocess 5 месяцев назад
@@habibaballa2934 - it can be difficult losing plants. Unlocking all the ways to make them happy and learning about troubleshooting is part of what makes this hobby interesting to me. That’s why I’m so grateful to channels like this. When there are setbacks, I try to feel grateful for what I learned. It isn’t mentioned a lot, but if a plant has great light and you’re meeting their other needs, pests are often part of the equation. I didn’t know my Monsteras had thrips until they had taken over. I took most of the down to one leaf cuttings and isolated them for treatment. They’re growing back out now. The good thing is, Monsteras tend to take a reset well if you can made the hard decisions early enough. That’s not helpful now, I know. But it’s something to consider for next time.

I found with my rescue I could also train the leaves to face forward with some help of some ribbon gently tied near the leaf neck and back to the pole. Along with a vertical grow light I was able to eventually release the ribbons and had a very "organized" looking monstera. But I also have some droopy,less hardy, less full looking leaves, that I think are what makes your re-arranged monstera example as reading less attractive.

My poor Monstera 😩 I bought it a year ago in May. Kept it up pretty well. It needed to be repotted and then I got sick and haven’t been able to take care of it. It’s still alive but such a mess. I feel so bad, not sure I’ll ever be able to bring it back. Would you please explain why cutting off leaf, which hasn't died yet, will slow down the growth? I cut off one of lower leaves recently, I was convinced it'll take the energy wasted for that small leaf and direct it towards new growth:/
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant 5 месяцев назад
Example 1: the plant is in its pot in a closed system. The leaves only job is to produce energy for the plant. Fewer leaves, less energy. Example 2: the plant has been cut and it is water propagating (open system) With a now small root system, the plant needs to work extra hard to move water from the roots to the stem and foliage. With too much foliage the plant will not be able to provide all the water it needs. The plant will start to kill off foliage in hopes to save the newest leaves. This is why it is important to propagate some plants with limited foliage.

Is a node just an aerial root? I’m confused if to cut below an aerial root or specifically a node I’m new😅❤️

a node is where the petiole meets the stem. aerial roots will generally from from there, but they can also form elsewhere along the stem.

I have a single leaf cutting that has finally grown a 2nd leaf! I put it in a small, clear pot so I could watch for roots, and this new leaf is the same size (more or less) and has one more fenestration (2 slits in the side instead of 1 lol). It's already in a south facing window - should I up-pot it already, or just be patient? I brought it home in January.

When the pot is 70-90% full of roots you should go up a size

You can, depending on your hardiness zone.

I guess air layering is a good way to avoid the growth resetting to small leaves

I notice you're using fairly small pots. Is there any advantage to a larger one?

I only choose pot size in relation to the root ball size.

I have a question, recently I had to remove all the leaves from my monstera because all the leaves were damaged from thrips and other pests and it was full of these spiderwebs. I left the base with roots still in the soil with a few nodes, I also took 2 bunches with a few nodes with aerial roots and places them in water. Will any of these regrow without any leaves at the moment?
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant 4 месяца назад
Just the leaves or did you cut back the whole stem?
@mooses44
@mooses44 4 месяца назад
@@KillThisPlant removed the leaves one inch from the stalk, the base of the plant is still whole with 4-5 nodes and some Arial roots.

@@mooses44 new leaves won't grow from the leaves you cut. New leaves will continue to grow from the top of the plant only

@@KillThisPlant i threw the leaves out since they don't have nodes, but the the stalk is still in the ground
