Welcome to Parrot Bliss!

Once upon a time, my daughter got a Budgie.
I fell in love; actually I found another passion - parrots!

I currently have over 22 species; I've probably gotten to know close to 40 all together, having had different species at different times. I know what they are like, how they get along and how to care for them to increase their well-being and increase their ability to bond with people.

As a writer and teacher, and as someone who has consumed a LOT of information about PARROTS, my mission is to help you increase your blissful bond with your parrot. This decreases the need for rehoming and rescues.

It also increases your experience, the love and joy in your life, and it increases the love and care that parrots receive.

I do this through my videos, my books, journals and coloring books (www.amazon.com/s?k=Kb+raphael&i=stripbooks&ref=bnav_search_go).

Looking for a parrot or a rescue? Check out my signature or contact me.

How cute. As I’ve mentioned before, one of my black headed caiques who is 21/2 still will beg to be fed. I moisten a few of his pellets and offer those. I only take a little bit. I also like to give each bird private time with me. Yes , I agree with having more than one bird. I associate keeping only one bird with humans that have been in prolonged isolation, no contact in any manner with other humans. It often leads to profound mental illness.

I can't decide which one is more adorable? Hahn's or Blue Headed? Seem both are really underrated! Never seen a Blue Headed here in Germany, but Hahn's are available from time to time.

Wow the price varies so much. We got my BHC for $1600 in 2007. They kind of just put us in the pen and let em choose us and it was such an amazing experience. Been raising my Sunny since he was little, currently sitting on my shoulder as I write this. Regardless of the monetary cost they are worth the companionship and all the laughs caiques specifically bring.

I know you are overwhelmed with people seeking advice and hope and pray you can find time to answer me. My 2 1/2 year old parrotlet has had what I believe to be a couple of mild seizures. He would just be frozen, staring at nothing, but very quickly come out of it and be fine. This morning he was on his perch shaking a little and didn’t want to come out of his cage, very unusual. I’ve watched him all day and when he walks he is a bit unsteady on his feet. He can’t seem to get any lift when taking off to fly, like when he’s on the bottom of his cage and he wants to fly up to a perch. He climbs fine. He is eating and drinking, but pretty much climbs everywhere in his cage when he does move which isn’t much. He doesnt seem to be in any pain, is not favoring a foot or a wing as though it might be injured. No outward signs of injury, doesn’t act sick bc like I said he’s eating. He is just wobbly on his feet and has trouble getting lift when he tries to fly. Any idea at all what is going on? He was perfectly fine last night when he went to bed. I wonder if maybe he fell during the night. And I wonder if he may have had a stroke, although he shows none of the typical symptoms, but I wonder if he is exhibiting the after effects from a stroke. The only vet anywhere near me is closed today. Do you have any advice other than taking him to a vet, which I am doing as soon as the vet opens. Please help! Thank you.
@anserbauer309
@anserbauer309 3 дня назад
Great, simple, practical advice for people to follow. When I get a new bird, I try not to have my hands going in and out of the cage at all while the bird is in there. They come to identify it as 'their space' more quickly when I'm not invading it constantly.

I have 2 blue and golds. One for 31 years since he hatched....the other one's 1st owner died of lung cancer and he's been with us for 9 years...he still performs the deep severe coughing bouts once in a while.. 😢 They are an acquired taste...it's like living with loud, demanding, messy ,raucous and destructive 2 yr old toddlers😂😅😂 But they are very interesting and wonderful companions...I can't imagine my life without macaws or peacocks😂

I love parrots too. But I'm barely enough for my one parrot. He would like much more of me and I give him all my time that I'm not sleeping or shopping in. How do you give all of yourself to 22 parrots?
@ParrotBliss
@ParrotBliss 4 дня назад
So true, we can't be enough for one bird. They are accustomed to 24/7. I don't have to because flocks have more than 2 :) So, my parrots have another of their species. Makes it so that they love engaging with me, but they are always happy in the company of their same-species friend.

@@ParrotBliss I'll admit, as much as I love my bird and am committed to him 100%...but, If I had it to do over again I wouldn't get a bird. Not at all because they are not my bliss...but because they are! I just wish I could give him a better life. I do everything I can but he would be happier with someone that doesn't work or with another bird. I didn't truly understand how intense their emotional needs are. I love him dearly but I'm always feeling sad for him. I wish he had been born a wild bird so he could live his best life. 💔

I have adopted a hawks headed parrot, his name is Albert, he is awesome! Unfortunately he did not bond with me, he bonded with my ex-wife who has left and did not take him. We got him when he was 10 or so, he has been with my wife and i for about 12 years and now just with me about 4 years. Thank God he hasn't gone mad and plucked all of his feathers. Although he is quite vocal with me when he doesn't get the attention that he hates from me 🤔 , yes thats right. I do love the little guy, i give him what he needs, let him fly around, give him treats and toys. If you have any advice for me to do so he can bond with me i am open for any and all ideas. Thank you for the great video!

Frankly, Hawk-heads are challenging. They are particular! If he likes spending time with you (even if you think he doesn't like you), he's probably doing well. Four years is a long time to not be happy, so it sounds like you are doing well.
