I am a UK Critical Psychologist. I worked in the UK up until 2012 when I then moved to Australia. In am not registered as a psychologist in Australia because I am not a health practitioner - I am an academic and social activitist and I do not offer psychological services. I offer critical and political analysis to benefit those working to create progressive social change.
This channel strips psychology down in 4 ways:
1) For students - encourage discussion of key skills needed to succeed in psychology
2) For tutors - encourage discussion of the key issues aroudn teaching at university
3) For tutors & students - encourage discussion of the cultural and political dimensions of psychology - who benefits most from what psychology does?
4) For anyone not at university but still interested in psychology- removing barriers to entry into psychology at university by posting my university teaching videos for the public to view.

I do like your summation about useless executives at the top!As somebody who early in my working life believed that the people in charge knew what they were doing was late to realise they don’t.

I still cannot believe all the Post Office execs and overseeing Ministers have the front to see nothing wrong with their lack of questioning anything that was relayed to them! I have particular abhorrence to Ed Davey’s response and his ability to carry on regardless. I think it must be a high office holder ability to deny just about anything or their selective memory loss.

Everything up to 2006 must have been shared with government because 1. Mandy Talbot spend of 320k over 20 k debt are government numbers in 2003. 2. My threat of legal action from David Blunkett dated 2006.

A very slippery and oily individual. On the edge between menacing, chumy, pompous entitlement and servile. His awkward tentative to provide a distracting smoke screen of eccentricity equally fails. The worst thing is that the company, Post Office Limited, still hasn't changed it's policy at all since the enquiry... Sub-postmasters continue to be dragged to court due to Horizon.

Hiya Paul - I am an Irish guy who is finding the Post Office scandal compelling - to say the least. Recently, I stumbled across your you tube channel. It’s a must. A real companion piece, that is helping me navigate my way through the mire. I’m not for a second going to suggest smugly that this couldn’t happen over here. But I also think on the other hand, your antiquated class system is being exposed as a central player in all of this. The people at the top (people of the cloth, eminent Lords & Ladies Haw Haw etc) never for a second considered that those little minion sub postmasters, could be anything other than guilty. Keep it goin’ Noel.

Tim Parker is a narstistic, pathological liar who didn't give a fu×ck for the truth and the wellbeing of the postmasters / mistresses so long as he didn't get covered in all the sh×it being thrown around because of his incompetency. Conclusion: Parker is scumbag and nasty obnoxious excuse for a human.

Thomson's problem is that he doesn't have the courage to ever take a good hard look at himself, or accept that his judgements and his preconceived notions can ever be wrong. His prideful over blown opinion of himself prevents him from acknowledging his own mistaken biases. Classic traits of a malignant narcissist and bully. Outwardly strong but inwardly too afraid and too weak minded to do any real and honest self reflection dealing with his series character flaws.

paul thank you for your insight i am not a UK resident but of the US . as a atudent in AU i worked holiday jobs at the AU PO and we took the civil service oath and they made us very aware and afraid about postal inspectors. Until you pointed it out i did not realise they had no special powers ,just the powers in law available to any investigator. small point in relation to this massive and arrogant miscarriage of justice The lessons are global.

That was interesting - maybe in 50 years the 50,000 currently sanctioned to starvation many age 60 after ICU - of the total millions of sanctions - by the DWP without evidence and tribulal appeals without lawyers - the same largest army of state that achieved 7% efficency from £2.9Billion and "picked on the weakest first" - they will be at an inquiry the dead will not witness

You're working with benefit of hindsight with your own politics and prejudices. It's reasonable of Parker to make a distinction between hindsight and context at the time. You would do the same. You admit you may be being unkind to him. I don't know why you make a deal of hands down trousers. My question is: when could Parker have reasonably realised he should've been viewing the issue from the lens of the SPMs? So, when could he have reasonably known the scale of numbers involved or that he should seek to find out? What was the strength of the representations made to him about potential injustices. If you're going to hold the chairman, or anyone else to account, surely it should be by that measure? I haven't had time to sit through the Inquiry, but it would seem difficult to believe that, when Parker came in and was briefed on the issue, that he wouldn't look at the other end of the lens (the SPMs' end) because he was in no position to understand the technical end. It's what people do when they're not in a position to understand one end of a problem because they don't have the technical expertise and don't necessarily trust rhe motives of those providing the technical assurances. If government and experts tell you a system is safe and effective, is your first response to trust them? For example, when they tried to shame and guilt us into getting an emergency use injection for the good of the community, did you trust them for yourself and your children? Or did you ask questions? Such as on risk by age and effects on transmission, for example? If you're told an injection is "safe and effective", don't you ask about testing and emergency use authorisation? If vaccinated people you know complain of serious adverse reactions, or die of heart issues or strokes, do you ask why the manufacturers insist on indemnity from liability? Do you trust the manufacturers who stand to make eyewatering levels of profit, and have the biggest criminal records in corporate history? Do you even realise with hindsight when you see the same experts, whom you were meant to trust, also believed you should be criminalised for walking in the park? And condemned you as irresponsible for walking in the hills? The officials who told you masks don't work based on years of study and yet changed their minds overnight without presenting evidence for their epiphany? And yet still, even now, when there is no good evidential basis for much of the pandemic response, do you continue to trust and believe them? The same people who censored expert heteredox opinion. Even after seeing from the Post Office scandal what lies are told in the interests of profit? I don't know whether or not you and your family took the injections. And if you did, whether you have any qualms about it now. But it's very easy for people to criticise others on one matter and not see what's in front of their nose even today on another.

I've got custard doughnuts, I was about to eat one, I couldn't leave my computer while this played or I'd miss where it was going! I temped in an AA call centre for a while, it was a new building far away from wherever the AA actually is, none of us had any committment to the AA, we just worked there. The AA had ceased to be a club that supported it's members at time of need, it was simply breakdown insurance. There were floods, the garages were full of dead sodden cars, members entitled to a hire cars timed out before their cars were repaired, they were advised to return their hire cars before the car hire companies called the police and reported them stolen. I tried to persuade one member not to let down his hire car tyres and abandon it outside his home. I got sacked. I wondered what had happened to the AA, I think perhaps I know now!

Good evening Dr Duckett, truly fantastic analysis and presentation! This is the first video of yours that I watched, and with hindsight I wish I’d found to earlier!!! I think the enquiry need to employ you to carry out the same analysis on every one of the Post Office employees and their lawyers so that we can better understand the true picture of how incredibly corrupt and incompetent they have been both in their day to day actions and how they have tried to manipulate their own actions as told to the enquiry under oath.

Paul, I’ve watched a number of your videos with great interest. They have helped me to frame and understand better the why and how of this god awful mess. I agree with many of the other posters here that you conclusion feels “spot on”. I hadn’t considered that the prosecutions and closures might be advantageous to a hidden agenda advantageous to the “post office “ strategy but it seems so clear once pointed out. Thank you for your time and effort . I think lots of people appreciate your thoughtful and clear eyed observations, I certainly do.

It beggars belief that in a law-conscious society so many people with social decency would steal from their place of work on which their livelihood and their families depended on. and taken to court for crimes they did not commit. It happened to me and my grieving family in 1967. I reminded they barrister who was supposed to defend us. He never replied and took the easy way-escape to eternity.

Hello Dr Paul hang in there man. Yes as a Brit I'd be interested in riot analysis. Or as my friend said a few years ago "why is everyone so angry ?". And, this may be a niche item, but today 17/9/24 there's a Guardian report about a proposed protest by some fans at an English football match about high prices for upcoming European games. They crowd funded 16,000 red cards for fans to wave but hardly anyone did and the protest was a fiasco despite "outrage" online. Interesting group behaviour
