I'm Derek. My faithful pups Marion, Indy, and I set out to build things, weld things, do repairs and screw around. One day we might be fixing a quad or playing fetch, the next we might be patching some drywall or hunting for a stash of Milk Bones.
I rebuilt the Ford C6 in my van after two of them built by local shops with good reputations grenaded. The C6 is considered to be an easy one to rebuild but for someone with no training and never been inside one it was daunting. I bought a book and a CD. I built my own specialty tools. About 10,000 miles on that tranny now and it has been perfect.
Why would you heat the bolt? That makes it expand and harder to remove. If you could heat the surrounding metal fast enough, that would help...but you can't since it's a massive block of steel.
Agreed. Check for local estate sales/auctions in your area. That's where I usually find good deals. If you can get out to an auction thats 45-60 miles from a major city, I think you'll find some good deals
Sometimes if you spray starting fluid in the spark plug hole you can get them to fire off, even if there are carb problems. Also, if you clean them up better and get them in good working order you can get a little more money for them
Would you be so kind as to share the partnumbers of the repair kit? I am having difficulties getting the correct kit for the exact same pump you done on this video. Here in South Africa they work on CAT part numbers but no one can give me the part numbers.
Thank you for that. Yes my pump is exactly same as yours. Can you perhaps give me all the different part numbers of the seals etc? We really struggling to get all the parts down here in SA.
What parts manual are you using? What is your machines serial number? Mine is 76A1376. And I dont even know if this is the correct serial number punched on the block.
Mine is a 74A1792. I think the difference is yours would be a power shift transmission. I'm using an official parts manual like this www.ebay.com/itm/192753341078
I'd forget the batterys. Solid concrete blocks work well. A small rubber mat or kitchen carpet scrap will make the noise less and keep the blocks from banging around. Can you weld an angle brace to each side to stiffen up the hitch(and aerator). Good welder. Fun to watch.
Did you pre lube the new turbo? I have a 64 D6C and am replacing the turbo - I know on cars you need to pre lube. Makes sense on these too - but I'm new to the game. Also it looked like a lot of exhaust blow-by at the turbo on start...?
Yes, I did pre-lube - the new turbo came with a big syringe and a special oil to inject into it before installing. Yes, she smokes like an old diesel at first start but clears up pretty quick.
The housing has a grease relief fitting and a grease fitting if I remember correctly, So the lip of the bottom seal would face the top if looking down, then I put the water seal in before putting the shaft and bearing assembly in! Try not to touch the carbon seal or the steal seal surface with your fingers, add a drop of oil on the ring, shining side toward the carbon, and install it, give it a twist to spreed the oil! The top cover plate the seal should face the bearings, unless you do not have a relief fitting then it should face out, when you grease the pump the over grease should then come out the relief fitting or come out the outer seal! If you put the bottom seal in with the lip down it will fill the weep hole with grease over time!
Thanks, I appreciate the crash course. Got to admit I thought you'd have a tough time with those rings, but you got her going, and no leftover parts either, lol
Tu et super balèze tu et un GOET j'aurez aimez à continuer être comme toi mais pour cause de santé je ne peut plus en tout cas merci à toi pour ce partage
Good luck with your project - I recommend searching on ebay or elsewhere for the parts manual - its pretty handy. I found mine on ebay for $20 bucks or so.
Regarding cat bolts, they are stronger and better than a typical grade 8 bolt. The heads are thicker, and have better thread engagement. They are well worth cleaning up with a wire brush to reuse. Replacements from cat are much higher price than hardware store grade8, to the point that counterfeits are showing up...
A chain fall between loader bucket and head gives vastly better control lowering or raising head during placement (so as to not bugger up the gasket and water ways)... hope all those parts are ok??
Good Video, in Trade School We Rebuilt a Military Gen Donated to the School , You could add some Sea Foam to Clean behind the Rings in a Car 11/2 oz per quart of Oil 500 Miles before Oil Change
