Nice to see your podcast, but I wish folks could actually see Corey's work. He is a trusted friend plus offers a beautiful handling of his craft. Great place to take a class and carry away an exceptionally light, strong watercraft fitted to the student.
You should talk to the guys in New Yorks Adirondack’s about the Adirondack guideboat. The museum at blue mountain lake would be the spot to reach out to
Excellent video. Just getting ready to start fillets on my 18' Simmons Sea Skiff motor well. I'm curious about the wood fillet tools and stir stick and the de natured alcohol. Does soaking the stick prevent sticking? It looks like you are able to reuse all of them, but I can't even seem to keep the purpose made plastic sticks clean fro more then a few uses.
Glad you like it David! Soaking the fillet tool (stick) does not prevent the epoxy from sticking. The trick is to clean your fillet tools immediately after use, and use denatured alcohol is needed. With the wood fillet tools, you can resand them again and again to keep a clean edge. Best, Dan
Thanks Dan, very informative. I use the wife's cake making supplies also. One thing I might ad though, get a longer piece of PVC pipe to use as your roller to push the mix down the bag. They can also make good fillet tools as well. Cheers for the video, Nick.
Very sound advice! "Every time you're at the boat, do something!" Well you've certainly got a beautiful boat! Congratulations and may you have many years of enjoyment.
After capsizing, righting and re-entering last weekend, YOU BET I AM!!! Know of anyone about 5'9" that wants to sell their dry suit? :-) I really want to feel what its like to need TWO or THREE reefs in that sail!
Nice build, she looks great! How were the plans in the Canoe Shop Book? I heard there were some errors in the lofting. Did you make the paddle also? You might consider a longer paddle, it might be more ergonomic for you and move you better as well. Well done!
