UP 6936 deserves a mention. Largest diesel electric loco ever built, an DDA40X if a remember. Several were built. Currently 6936 is being refurbished and did a test run as recently as Sept 2023.
I’m heartbroken seeing the challenger in that consist along with 5511. I hope Union Pacific restores it. 3985 and 844 in my honest opinion were the queens of the rails before 4014 and everyone was drawn to both of them
They should’ve brought in their heritage unit from the southern pacific to pull that special all the way. One heritage unit bringing several others to their new home
For those new to this museum; the Golden City & San Juan Railroad is the fictional name of the museum's railroad. It is used for locomotives and cars that do not have a historical connection to the region; but do useful work at the museum. TM Colorado Railroad Museum Member since 1995.
Yeah, I imagine that the UP management didn't want to spend the millions' to rebuild her. Not after they already spent huge money on the Big Boy rebuild. Although, its still good to see that she will be rebuilt, and not allowed to simply rust away.
Nothing is more fun (at least in trains) than being a passenger during a blizzard. I was on one years ago on the train from New London, Connecticut to Washington, DC (back when it used to snow around the DC area). The train was packed with people who didn't want to make the drive and college students back after Christmas break. The train just kept going, plowed through the snow and made it DC, almost on time. The only thing it ran out of was beer.
Hard to believe just how old this beautiful locomotive is, yet she just keeps on chugging. She looks phenomenal. These little locos are actually some of my all-time favorite steamers. Fantastic capture. You just got yourself a new subscriber.
Big boy UP 4014 put on an excellent performance while operating through a snow filled atmosphere, I always enjoy seeing steam locomotives operating in snowy weather. I am glad that the 4014 was restored back to operation as I would have never expected to witness the restoration of a UP "big boy" class locomotive during my lifetime and these scenes are fantastic to observe.
Wow, I never realized how to calculate out how fast a steam loco is going until a video by hyce, and when 491 is doing roughly 8 chuffs a second, it's only going around 5 mph.
