Follow me on my channel as I work on boats, fishing, and lobster fishing around the Southern California area and beyond. See how I restore some older boats to give them new life along with some "How To" videos. Currently I just finished restoring my 1996 Arima Sea Ranger to be my full time and forever boat after fully restoring my 1987 Arima Sea Chaser 17 to bring it up to date and give it a fresh new look. 2023 marks an epic year as I will be posting more fishing videos then working on boats, so make sure to subscribe and hit that bell to be notified when these new videos pop up !
That’s the thing about PWCs, once you get into them they start multiplying. Be it you’re forced to take it with trailer or you grab some for parts and end up fixing them etc etc. if they have issues they can be found for cheap.
Yes that's for sure. I just bought another trailer just in case another good deal on a ski pops up. Something about them being fun to work on that's addicting. Thanks for watching!
@@tomokin666 Thank you, you me both can’t wait to get them on the water, hopefully by next week, skis on the water and lobsters in the boat! Thanks for watching!
It has been a while since your last video. Wow, a very nice ski. I used to own one. Hope you gonna have some fun with it before selling it. Looking forward to the next video soon.
Yeah I've been busy this summer, but things are starting to slow down, trying to get some videos made. I'll be taking it out, before I sell it, I want to see if it would be worth keeping to fish from in the marinas. Thank you for watching!
Those DI engines can be a headache due to the fuel pump and the fuel pressure it has to make. The 951 engine is a good engine however. Make sure to not run it too long outside of water due to the carbon ring seal. Most will say 30 - 60 seconds to be safe. Good job getting it started 😎
@@jonathanpassaro228 The fuel tanks are custom made for Defiance Marine in Washington, the builders of Arima boats. You can give them a call to see if they would sell you one, but they’ll be expensive. It’s a 48 gallon tank. Thanks for watching!
@@jonathanpassaro228 Oh gotcha, it’s called “bait hotel” I believe. The company that makes them is in Anaheim,Ca. industrial plastic supply, but I’m not sure if they’re still making them. The part # is BTO 2424 LD last I knew they sold new for $430. Sometimes they pop up on Craigslist and Offer Up for around $100 and $150, it’s a 25 gallon tank I believe.
My lower section on mine just fell apart like broken glass, I went out to take the cover off my boat to check everything out and the lower cover was in several peaces lying on the bow and the top was still like new. My boat came with this trolling motor on it in 2019 when I bought it brand new. I would assume it was made out of inferior materials just the bottom section. Ask Minn Kota about it and of coarse the blew me off like most corporations do nowadays. Thanks for the video I can do it myself now.
This boat had 2 kicker mounts. One kicker mount was removed and the holes were filled in and then gelcoated over. The other side still had the original mounting bracket )plate) in place and the actually kicker mount was removed and given to the new owner.
Doing my carbs now! Watching as I go. Took the top carb off and the tubes w the holes that go into the float valve, one is cracked! Do I have to get a new carb or is that a replacement part?
@@CTRadventures Not understanding what you are referring to as “tubes”? Could you point out a time stamp in the video where you see the “tubes”, then I might be able to help after I see what it is.
@@SoCalSeaChaser sure it's the jets either side of the float valve. Doing carb 2 now and they aren't cracked so I'm thinking might need a new one. Man I can't thank you enough for this video
@@SoCalSeaChaser doing my research, they are the emulsion tubes. I can see they are part of the carb and can't buy them. Trying to find two carbs on ebay w my part number is near impossible. I have hear of some people being able to take out those and have someone solder or JB weld the crack. I wish I was able to send a pic here. The rebuild went great thanks to your video. Took her back out and got to 55.5 mph WOT
I just got my first boat an 88 ranger 393v with an 87 Johnson V6 150. I don't know much but I'm learning. Took okk the air silencer and the carbs look nice and shiny. However, on the outside, I can touch the gasket with my fingernail and I see moisture and residue falling onto the other carbs. Where the carb meets the bowl I think. All of em are like that. Figured it's time to replace the gasket on them. The carbs look similar to yours. Same process? I see where the bots are to take the carbs off but I don't want to mis align or mess something up when I unhook them from the throttle link. I don't think I'll be replacing more than the gaskets. The motor runs great. I was thinking about just bowing air into all of the jets and carb cleaner, then replace the gasket, not take everything out this time. Any tips
@@CTRadventures The gaskets are worn and old, that’s why it’s leaking from there and in saying that, it needs a complete rebuild. So don’t do half of the work on carbs, trust me it will bite you in the ass later and removing those carbs on that motor is not fun. Buy a Johnson OEM rebuild kit for those carbs, don’t get the cheap aftermarket ones, they’re POS. You will need to replace everything in those carbs, the kit will have it all. Throughly clean the carbs with carb cleaner including all the orifices. Also buy a carb jet cleaner tool, they’re like $7 on Amazon, you’ll need it to clean the tiny holes in the jets. a.co/d/1HOvN0B As for the leakage, I think those should just pop off with snaps. If you put them back on, check the butterfly’s to see if they’re closed all the way, if not adjust them to close them. Don’t adjust any idle/ mixture screws and you should be fine. Good luck.
@@SoCalSeaChaser awesome thanks! Ya I just bought the OEM kitx 3 after shipping was $95. I'll give it a gander and hope I can complete it as a complete noob. 🤠 Just ordered those brushes. I'm also assuming this will help the idle a bit? I know you start getting into linkage adjustment at that point. Also what is that gripper tool? That would have come in helpful trying to get that screw back in the air silencer bottom screws by the crowling latch
@@CTRadventures Right on. Before you start, do a little more reading and watching other videos to get you familiar and comfortable with a carb rebuild, others might have some additional helpful information. But in reality it’s not hard to do.
@@SoCalSeaChaserWatching this again hoping to do these Thursday. I had another prob come up. Hope it's nothing detrimental. Quick question, I got the brush kit. What is that little gripper tool you have you used in the jet? Not sure I wanna try my luck taking that little jet out, might brush, carb spray, and then comeessed air. Don't wanna mess that up
What's up man!? I had a question and figured you're the best guy to ask. Now that I have my 86 sea chaser 17 up and working good, I'm planning on stripping it back down and doing a whole new gelcoat... once I put it back together, I'll be replacing all the wood panels with starboard. I believe you've done this before. If so, does one sheet of .5"×54"×96" cover all the wood paneling sizes? Or would I need 2 sheets? If you could let me know thatd be awesome! If not, I appreciate the effort! And just a reminder, your videos have really pumped me up and given me confidence to completely strip down an arima and fix all that is needed! So thank you for your content!
@@kaipennock3051 Awesome to hear! I used 1 and a half sheets, but planned it out to have minimum waste, everything was a tight fit when laying it out. 2 sheets would probably be ideal just in case. Stock color for starboard on Arima’s are Sea Foam. Also if you’re going to rip everything out, do a rewire, for that year of a boat imo it’s very important. Also wash the inside of the boat throughly, it’s very nice to have a nice clean boat to work in. Any questions ask away. Once you’re done, you’ll pretty much have a new boat!
@SoCalSeaChaser yeah I've redone all the wiring, new batteries, cleaned the snot out of it, refit the fuel tank and re geled under that, all new electronics, lights... just about a full reboot. I blame you! Haha. I'm going with a brighter white for the gelcoat and a charcoal starboard and maybe a dark grey gel on the outside from the rubrail down. Mix it up a little. I live just north of seattle wa and there's a ton of arimas up here in Puget Sound so I think I need to stand out a little. Im also going to put a fishon fishing arch tower on it, for fishing and towing the kids around the lake.... can't wait! Do you know of a good replacement rubrail brand for the outside hull? Mine is pretty trashed
@@kaipennock3051 Thats cool you went all in on your Arima, that’s the way to go, glad I could be some inspiration to lead you down the rabbit hole lol. I think the color scheme you’re doing is going to look nice. I’ve been thinking of doing something similar to my Sea Ranger one of these days as my starboard has see better days. I sold that Sea Chaser 17 to a buddy and not long ago he came over and we installed his Fishon arch, it’s really nice and heavy duty, made a video of us installing it lol. As for a rub rail, I’m not sure on a direct original rail, but Taco Marine makes a nice solid black rub rail that I have on my Sea Ranger and it’s nice.
@SoCalSeaChaser awesome thanks! Yeah I saw that install on the arch... looks real nice! Just gotta get out and get the right measurements before ordering. I'll send you some photos after I get her done... some good before and after shots. I got her in real rough shape, time for a new life! Lol
@@Brett-nc7hi Using a drill is perfectly fine as long as you are using a low torque settings, which I did and had it set at #2, hence why I went back and hand tighten the screws.
Beautiful work! Great boat. I have a 15’ Sea Sprinter. It’s been a great boat but as it goes, Something a little more spacious, And family friendly would be a good upgrade. Any idea how many hours you logged working on it?
Yes I replaced it with a Geloo (generic brand), KUS USA is supposed to be better, but no issues so far with Geloo. It's a 16" 240-33 ohms fuel sender. It does not go all the way to the bottom, 17" might with the tank I have. But for me the 16" is good because when it reads EMPTY, I know I have roughly 5 gallons left. Thanks for watching ! a.co/d/awA1q7A
Here’s a link to a picture of the color mix label I got from PYI when they did the color match at Sherwin Williams. imgur.com/nCwKxDy FYI, I sent them my small floor hatch lid near the helm to color match it. The color was not spot on, but the contrast was very nice.
Ha! Came here for boats, stayed for the skating... Thats rad. Sessioning local spots are one of the few things i miss about being a teenager in the 80s/90s...
Literally the only shaking of the video is from 1:30 to 2:20 and about 10 seconds of that is still frames with the majority of that segment is me loosing and tightening screws. 👍 Thank you for “watching”
Just subbed and I can't believe you don't have more subs ...loving your videos man...I am about to go to my buddies right now and restore my old 1991 Cajun center console....this boat series has given me so many ideas...Thank you so much!!!👍👍👍
Thank you for subbing and appreciate the comment man! Yeah it's just the way it goes with RU-vid. That Century was the first one I got into not knowing much, then it became an addition lol. Glad I could inspire you, you got a nice YT channel to0, just sub, love watching others from different parts of the country fish, keep it up! Tight lines.
I like how your friend has that rhythm when he pulls, almost like a ritual dance. haha Good to see that you guys were able to get crabs. I would take crabs over lobster 👍
Yea he loves hoop netting and has got his rhythm down. We’ve been working on getting dialed in more every trip after a 2 and half year hiatus. That last spot we were in we caught 3 different species of crabs, not in LBH.
Thanks, it was good night out there. What I found out was the tires were old, 2013, way pass their prime and combined with the crappy 10 freeway, equaled a blow out. I should’ve bought new tires when I bought the boat, but now I got new tires all around, ready for round 2 soon!
Just bought a Minn Kota Edge 45 off a guy. The housing was broke because it fell in the corner of his garage. Purchased the housing off Amazon and got er done. Video was very helpful! Thx for posting! 👍🎣
Just found your channel looking for more information about Arima boats and to my surprise you are local. Have you ever owned a 15’? I am really debating between the 15’ and 17’. I know the saying bigger is better but the thought of storing a boat inside my garage for local bay and offshore fishing is very appealing.
I’ve owned a 16 and 17 Sea Chaser and now a 19 Sea Ranger. If you’re going to be storing the boat in your garage, the 16 will fit like a car. The 17 is a bit taller and wider, so it depends on the height of your garage door opening and length. If you’re able to get the bow as low as possible on the 17, you should be able to push it in your garage. The wildcard for the 17 not fitting is if it’s on rollers or high bunks, more so on rollers since it sits very high. Some owners typically add a swing tongue and park it at a slight angle to fit in a garage. The average length of a 17 with the motor down to the coupler on the trailer is around 23 feet, give or take a foot, and about 7 feet tall. The 16 Sea Chaser is capable of running offshore on good days, but it will bob like a croak and might not be the greatest boat to go offshore in or choppy conditions, but I had zero issues running inshore out to the rigs etc. The 17 Sea Chaser is a very good mix of compact and range. It will go offshore and have a better ride given the bow is taller and the boat itself is wider, again conditions no matter the size plays a roll when going offshore. The 19 is better overall, but then you need to consider your storage options. Trailering these boats are easy and you get a lot space on the decks. The 16 and 17 Sea Chasers have a very close identical deck size, with the exception of the deck is wider and a couple inches taller on the 17 and the 17 has a wider and a foot longer bow. Overall the 17 is the best option imo. Good luck with your search!
@@SoCalSeaChaser thanks for the information. I will keep looking for a 17 for sale. Have you tried to make the crossing to Catalina from the South Shore launch ramp in any of your Arimas?
@@MultiGen3 Yes once in my 16, but conditions were glassy with a 2 foot swell. But I’ve taken my 16 out to the double rigs often and just last week took my 19 out there. The worst part about the island is coming back and the changing forecasts in the channel. Here’s a short video of me out at the double rigs in my 16 is good conditions. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5iqxCDG123o.html
