I'm a science maniac that loves building huge lasers and playing with electricity and chemicals.
Officially I am a chemist, but I get my hands dirty in all aspects of mad science. When it comes to building stuff, I'm certainly an "old school" kind of maker as I'd rather use a hacksaw and soldering iron than design 3D parts on a computer.
I started this channel in 2006 and handle all of the building, filming, and editing by myself. This means you'll never get a set upload schedule. :D What I lack in video editing skills I try to make up with crazy and original content!
Need help with a project? Or do you just want to chat about science projects with other tinkerers? If so, join my Discord server! There are TONS of knowledgeable members there, so if I can't help with a question, they can! It really is an amazing community. discord.gg/ckGrMDR
Jheesus, the US health system is proper fuvked! You could have paid for a return flight to Australia, paid for the CT scan completely out of pocket, paid for multiple appointments with a specialist physician and still paid less than you did for a SINGLE CT scan in America. Once you factor in your $10K yearly insurance bill, you could probably undergo the entire battery of tests/appointments through to a proper diagnosis and still save money - even if you have to fly across the pacific ocean more than once (the current exchange rate doesn't hurt these calculations - but still). The only scenario where you'd come out spending more money over here is if you needed an extended hospital admission, or intensive ongoing treatment like renal dialysis or something!
I’ve been through a similar thing, then the insidious doubt and worry took over and almost made me lose my love and appreciation for nature. I’ll be sending good vibes your way and I’ll have to check out your tornado channel! Much love ✌️
What’s bizarre is the fact people are fine with us utterly destroying children’s hormones to placate some delusions. Hormones regulate nearly every quality of life aspect of your health
I've had the same experiences with insurance. Well over double out of pocket with it. I no longer have health insurance. Glad you're doing what you need to. Stay crazy!!!
Dude, I thought you were telling my story at first! Except mine was the opposite problem! At age 24, I was super fatigued all the time, no facial hair too. Like have to gasp to talk sometimes. Get my T checked, it was like 108 ng/dL when low is considered ~400s. They offered to put me on testosterone replacement, but my primary said "You're only 24, something is wrong". Endo does a scan and bloodwork, find my prolactin levels were 2,042 ng/dL when normal is 18. I thought it was a typo! First words out of my endo's mouth when I meet him is "I'm surprised you can see!". I had a 3cm x 3cm pituitary tumor crushing my optic nerve and flooding my thyroid with prolactin making my T, FHS, T4 and others all super low. I guess most guys get it checked out when they start going blind from the tumors growing too big. Insurance was a nightmare all throughout too. Luckily, for my tumor I just have to take meds and it's shrunk to 1cm and is inactive. Benign as they commonly are. Still wild, like the whole wind up felt like you were telling my story! Hope you guys get it figured out and get you on the mend!
I'm going through the exact same thing with my insurance and ct scans / also urgent i live in MA took me over 2 years just to get a primary care doctor to take me.. Best wishes
Drake: would it be possible for you to set up a go fund me? I’m sure more than me would help you so that you can get the help you need. I wish you lived here in Europe where you get healthcare without paying. But you have given us a lot of great videos through the years. Maybe it’s time we help you a bit.
Im sorry you have to go through all that during a time of uncertainty. Is there a way to help with medical costs like a go fund me or something? Please keep us updated, doesnt have to be a normal video, just a 1 minute video letting us know you're still doing good is plenty!
Also there’s a service called “second doctor “ or something. Some insurance companies have it as a benefit sometimes you got to pay out of pocket, it’s only 2-3000$. Steam of specialist throughout the country will look at your case and try to come up with an answer. Set up a go fund me , I’m in for a few bucks for you. You’re cool as hell and I want you to get better.
You're so clearly a great human being. So sorry that people who care more about lining their own pockets are messing with your right to exist and live to the fullest. Humanity is messed up. You deserve it all x
One thing that RU-vid has shown, is just how common it is for people to have chronic illnesses or medical emergencies Imagine if our society was actually set up to support people in their recovery instead of grinding them down further
Thanks for sharing. I went through similar blood irregularities and cancer scare last year. The best and most difficult thing you can do when these things happen is talk about them. Best of luck!
May the Lord bless you with a long and content life. May the Lord Heal you and redeem you. Ill be praying for you man. My 25 yr old son just went through a horrible cancer situation and the Lord brought him through. and yeah insurance companies can suck a nut....
If you would like, I have a TCM doctor who has cured me and loved ones of different diseases which Western doctors said were "incurable". And he is less than $100. He's here in New Mexico though
I feel you on the insurance. I recently changed insurance because they wouldn't cover some eye drops I need for my dry eye condition. Without the drops my vision is blurry and the quality of my life drops significantly. They wouldn't cover it and when they did they charged me 10x my copay for it. $100 for a $10 copay. I switched insurance and now I get the same prescription approve without problems for $10 copay.
I get it with the not being of the mind to make a video even though everything is there ready. I have trouble with that myself. You have to be in a good mind space to make a good youtube video. Some days you just aren't on. Those days can turn into weeks. Those weeks into months. It's easier to fall off the longer you make videos for.
