I live in Australia, with my (thankfully also minimalist) husband Paul and our cat Lumi.
I loved this vlog, I went 2 Sweden twice when in high school - to Trelleborg - it was so fun and gorgeous, lovely people. I've yet to visit Australia, wd u rec winter or summer?
Australia is very big so depends what you want to see and how warm you like it. June to aug is winter, so cooler down south and warmer up north. Western Australia is stunning, as is the east coast. Generally the shoulder seasons are great times to travel (Feb-april) or (oct-nov).
Hi Emmy, I’m a new subscriber and also live in Australia - it’s great to find your channel. I’d love to see some budget videos please. I will have to try out those GF 2 min noodles - I’ve never noticed them before.
@@nickiclarke4304 thanks for being here! Will have a look at a budget grocery challenge, I did one a few videos back for $50 if you want to check that out in the meantime :)
Please do share a travel vlog sharing your money saving tips and advice. I totally agree that it is always great to have those meals that you are always able to assemble quickly and easily from staple pantry ingredients.
Hi Emmy, I love tuna you are right it is very versatile and still affordable. Your hair looks very nice by the way. I think I love a simple tuna salad with celery, finely chopped onion and lots of mayo on pasta.please keep up the good work and good videos and see you next time.💙😁🍗
Hello Emmy those meals look delicious and a bonus they are gluten free and budget friendly I really appreciate videos like this they inspire me with ideas. Thank you and looking forward to more.Take care.🦋👍❤️
I would rather buy the cheaper eggs and buy the more expensive rice like basmati that has a wonderful smell, texture and flavor naturally. I find when I buy the cheaper rice it has so many broken pieces that it has a tendency to come out mushy and tasteless…I am all about texture and taste…if I am going to use my calories on a starch like rice I want to enjoy it not just to be a filler. Though even if it is the main filler…you still want it to be a nice texture and flavor. So, an investment of a large bag of rice at Sam’s or a whole Sale club ( if in your area), is the way to go in my opinion. Not having to run to the grocery store every week, saves on gasoline, time, and health…the less time spent in grocery stores among sick people you’re less likely to have to spend time at the doctors office and nursing loved ones. It seems to be a win win situation for me. Buy buying large pieces of meat, chicken etc, you can make quite a few meals from that one piece of meat. A roast for example can yield: a roast dinner on Sunday, take some to make a cottage pie, roast beef sandwiches, barbecue sandwiches, stew and homemade vegetable-beef soup. By going by portion size of 3-4 oz per serving and adding sides of starches and vegetables…this one large roast will yield plenty. If not enough to make one of these dishes, make wraps, and save any scraps in a small container that you will add to later with other scraps of cooked meat to make a five meat pizza to stretch until next pay day( roast beef or steak scraps, pork… ground sausage, roast or pork chop), bacon, pepperoni ( 4 slices cut into 1/4 pieces), then embellish with anything you have a dab of: hot or salad peppers, mushrooms, etc. Do a clean out the fridge pizza with any vegetables you want to use up, barbecue pizza out of any leftover chicken that doesn’t serve you or your family. Any tiny pieces of chicken boiled off of carcass while making chicken stock…use to make pot stickers.
The meals sound great, looking forward to seeing more cooking! I've never heard mix and match before, so basically you are buying ingredients that go in multiple meals? I should start doing that
I’m a single pensioner living in Brisbane on a tight food budget. I’m also coeliac, I understand the minefield being gluten free. These recipes are very helpful and I will definitely be giving them ago. Thank you I have followed your videos for sometime actually from the Freya days.
Yes, I really enjoyed this style of meal planning video. We just finished a giant bowl of pasta salad, and tomorrow I'm making lentil sloppy joes - yum!

That fish 🐟 curry 🍛 looks amazing!! I love thai green curry!! But I've only made it with chicken before. Definitely going to try this! Need to eat more fish. Lime is always good in it, as is a bit of brown or palm sugar 😋
Hey, try lots a lemons lemon tree. It grows loads of lemons from an early start. Try in a pot which I have done. Tomatoes are my Achilles heel . Used to get loads but for some reason there’s a lot of diseases and bugs around grr.
Loved your veggie garden!! I have not had much luck growing herbs but I keep trying. Maybe I should grow them in the garden instead of pots. Your parsley was amazing!
I find it odd that real butter like that has a 1 star health rating (yes it's full fat) but then vegetable oil spreads and oils get a good star rating...
Agree! The few times I have butter spread I have the proper butter, don't personally want the vegetable oil ones (but appreciate they are often much cheaper).
Ooohh I'll need to keep my eyes open for a similar yogurt maker. All the ones I've seen are electric. I love this that I don't need something running all night.
It's just something I thought I would mention. If you don't have coconut cream or milk, you can use plain yogurt in curries. I'm allergic to coconut, but I read someplace about this swap, and it works great.
Definitely keep an eye out for one, mine has saved money and obviously it's less waste on packaging too (compared to buying plastic tubs from the store every week)!
I’ve been using left over veg to make frittata’s for many years, the quinoa salad is something I’ll definitely make.. I always try to use the leaves on celery for flavouring when making soups and other one pot meals.. I remove them at the end of cooking
Omg yay! So glad I found your channel. I’ve just moved to Melbourne from Ireland and I’ve been searching for an Aussie channel that does these budget friendly/healthy yet tasty meal ideas from an Aussie supermarket as it’s easier to compare costs. Can I ask whereabouts in Australia are you based? 😊
All prices are similar to where I am (Toronto Canada) except for the bananas (sooo expensive for you) and the Heinz ketchup - you pay $1 more than I ever would.
I have heard Canada and Australia are more similar in food prices. We've had some issues with floods and other weather over past 12 months which may have driven prices up on some fruit and veg too as a lot of crops were badly damaged/destroyed.
Bananas are grown in Australia so the cost includes Aussie wages and transportation which are much higher than imported bananas from a south American country
Yummy! I will definitely try these out! Your grocery haul looks like mine. I live in California and shop at Aldi for the bulk of my groceries. I also love using up all my leftovers and odds and ends to make soups, chilli or stew. It’s a good habit that saves money and leaves less waste. Thanks for your video content, happy to have found your channel 🎉
Lots of GF takeaway options: most pizza and burger places do gf base/bun for extra cost. Thai food or other Asian type dishes with rice/rice noodles are good too :)
