Wow, this is awesome. After decades of failed attempts and having given up on ever seeing them, my son managed to get tickets and he took me to Manchester to see the mighty Depeche Mode in February (‘24). I prayed that Alan would be there. Such a shame he wasn’t but still an absolutely awesome set. 🫶 #LoveDepecheMode
Alan should’ve asked Dave to write lyrics for the songs he wrote. We now know Dave had the ability. Dave may then have fought a little harder to Alan in the band
Alan is great musician and genius in a studio, but I'm glad that songwriting for a pop band is not in his talents. Martin songs are somewhere both in between Vince and Alan vision)
Greets from Germanistan! I still like Depeche Mode, but without Alan this Combo is not so important anymore. Really, i love the Stones and Duran² much more.
Where are we going to get another Alan Wilder? I still think that his best works were in that '101' by Depeche Mode from 1988, before the very special Violator from 1990, which left us very, very remembered gems. I got hooked on Techno (the real one) with Kraftwerk, Yazoo, Mecano's first albums in Spain, but Depeche Mode discovered another way of understanding Techno, with dark but very special nuances.
You cleaned the hell out of them! They sound great. Had these since Napster, but back then had no idea whose songs "Violence" and "I Feel No Guilt" were. Never heard "Cliche" before. "Cliche" is definitely for another band to record, but sure wish DM did "I Feel No Guilt". Always really liked that one.
last track sound a bit ( a lot?) like "more than a party". I guess he was expecting to bring more songs in the band ( and some of them are seriously top quality - remember " In your memory" being absolutely brillant as "people are people" B side). I guess he gave up after this. and he ended up being just the arranger with little songwriting credit. These demos are already quite arranged. I have to say though i m not a super- fan of the "industrial" period of DM.
Beside “If you want” music with no hook at all that I forgot in 1 minute after listening, now go and listen some covers of DM songs composed by Martin and think a bit whats the difference (I said covers to exclude the studio Alan Wilder factor)
