Yeah, the band definitely suffered from his absence after Songs of Faith & Devotion. Picked back up with Playing the Angel, but then dropped out again.
Definitely, it's Alan. His voice and style of writing music somehow differentiate from Martin's. I read the wiki from the link below. I think Alan would have even forgotten them or just has denied his authorship for an obvious reason. He just cuts himself off DM. If you stop thinking of something, you make your mind up it did not happen and believe in it.
Attached to a dialysis machine now.. music is my last soloce. Thanks all memberz of DM throughout the years! JC another outstanding release :.) My ear buds and roman nose salute you.. hee) Now i have something to do.. listen to this coldplay..bye guys.. have a pint at the pub on me)
@@Nenko_Music There is a non alcoholic wine called Dead Red created by Grateful Dead fans and/or band mates! Cherry Garcia ice cream comes without booze as well and the list of NA brew grows. Have a spectacular Olympics in Paris!
SIGH......what a gift. Thank you for uploading. There's no denying my love of Dave and his massive stage presence but I have a deep love for Alan and always have.
It IS a gift. To get to hear the fleshing out of a song, and hear it's origins before it hits the studio. To state the obvious, before the Internet, you had to be DAMN lucky to get your hot little hands on something like this. One of the many reasons I still use RU-vid are gems like this, especially from "commercial" bands like DM...it helps a music lover appreciate their favorite singers/groups that much more when you listen (not hear) to the work that went into making the classics we love still to this day.
Wow, this is awesome. After decades of failed attempts and having given up on ever seeing them, my son managed to get tickets and he took me to Manchester to see the mighty Depeche Mode in February (‘24). I prayed that Alan would be there. Such a shame he wasn’t but still an absolutely awesome set. 🫶 #LoveDepecheMode
I don't know if Alan was in The Hitmen at the time, but their single Bates Motel is such a New Wave classic. He has always been so talented. Nice to hear these demos.
Greets from Germanistan! I still like Depeche Mode, but without Alan this Combo is not so important anymore. Really, i love the Stones and Duran² much more.
Great remastering job - I'd heard these before but the quality here is much better. I really wish we could also hear Alan's demos for CTA and the B-sides that he wrote, especially 'In Your Memory' (my favourite of his songs).
You cleaned the hell out of them! They sound great. Had these since Napster, but back then had no idea whose songs "Violence" and "I Feel No Guilt" were. Never heard "Cliche" before. "Cliche" is definitely for another band to record, but sure wish DM did "I Feel No Guilt". Always really liked that one.
THIS IS EXCELLENT, SO RARE TOO, ARE THERE ANY MORE WILDER DEMO TAPES OF HIS DEPECHE STUFF ME WONDERS. I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THE SOME GREAT REWARD ALBUM, LOVE ALL DEPECHE STUFF BUT REWARD WAS A GREAT TIME FOR THEM THEN.
Where are we going to get another Alan Wilder? I still think that his best works were in that '101' by Depeche Mode from 1988, before the very special Violator from 1990, which left us very, very remembered gems. I got hooked on Techno (the real one) with Kraftwerk, Yazoo, Mecano's first albums in Spain, but Depeche Mode discovered another way of understanding Techno, with dark but very special nuances.
Its written "World in my eyes" on the tape... And on the paper we can see titles like "Personal Jesus" and again "World in my eyes". But your tape is supposed to be from 1984.... Strange... Does it mean that these songs was already done in 1984 ? Is 'Quants2' Alan himself ? 🤔
No it wasn't, these tracks are from a compilation tape so it has tracks from multiple sources, there are unreleased World In My Eyes mixes on it as well as some studio outtakes and Martin Gore demos, the rest of the content is also on dmlive wiki if you want to hear it (I don't own it)
Alan should’ve asked Dave to write lyrics for the songs he wrote. We now know Dave had the ability. Dave may then have fought a little harder to Alan in the band
Beside “If you want” music with no hook at all that I forgot in 1 minute after listening, now go and listen some covers of DM songs composed by Martin and think a bit whats the difference (I said covers to exclude the studio Alan Wilder factor)
last track sound a bit ( a lot?) like "more than a party". I guess he was expecting to bring more songs in the band ( and some of them are seriously top quality - remember " In your memory" being absolutely brillant as "people are people" B side). I guess he gave up after this. and he ended up being just the arranger with little songwriting credit. These demos are already quite arranged. I have to say though i m not a super- fan of the "industrial" period of DM.
@@Quants02 funny, I have a Bootleg-CD with Mart-Demos, those same ones. Whoever is right, its a historical docoment. By the way, the voice sounds like Mart. I Know some other Demo-Tapes.... it´s the same voice.
No Mart, bro! Just listen to some interviews with Al of that period, listen to his backing vocals, & you'll find - its pure & utter A. C. Wilder in the flash!
Alan is great musician and genius in a studio, but I'm glad that songwriting for a pop band is not in his talents. Martin songs are somewhere both in between Vince and Alan vision)
@@Quants02 most musicians, especially those as highly successful as Depeche Mode could easily present their demos on reel to reel which in 1984 would've easily been what they did. How else would they have recorded all the multi tracks?? On a Triad??
Alan had a cassette multitrack recorder called a portastudio, he used it to record demos and also to record his first album 1+2, DM (and most other bands at the time) only used reel to reel tape in the studio because that's how you got the best sound quality for albums, you didn't _need_ good sound quality for demo tapes hence why the members were recording their demos on cassettes into the early 90s
@@mattbelinski7760 Many musicians were using home studios with cassette during this era. I watched a documentary where The Edge was showing his home recordings (on cassette) for the Joshua Tree album, all recorded and overdubbed at his house. The medium was much more flexible for home portastudios as you could play the tapes on a larger variety players (home hifi, car stereo etc) rather than needing a reel to reel.
not every song on a demo tape has to be _on_ the finished album, Alan wrote all these songs for sgr but only one of them made it to the finished album (namely if you want, which is kind of a shame because i think i feel no guilt should've made it instead)
