Scotland’s Railway is an integral part of Scotland’s social and economic infrastructure supporting our communities, business and environment.
We cover a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the GB rail network.
Scotland's Railway provides rapid access along busy commuter routes to our seven cities, servicing the varied needs of our business and leisure commuter services, including cross border services and rural services.
The Levenmouth railway line should see more extra trains in the months ahead. Nice to see it being reinstated. Why not reconnect the former Waverley line that went from Carlisle to Edinburgh via Tweedbank.
Why wont they say the line IS to be doubled all the way to East Kilbride and not mention the fate of Thorntonhall station I mean surely they have to build a second platform there if it were to be so because it’d be daft to have a double, single then double track again heading towards the new hairmyers station especially if they plan to run 4 trains every half an hour on the line
Yes but if some of it is as stated double tracked i.e at the new Hairmyres station and a bit is single track I.e at throntonhall then essentially you have a logjam if a 4 trains per half an hour service is to run. The sensible thing IS the double track all the way for that kind of service to operate like at Barrhead where there is a platform for trains to stop
Nice to see electrification on the East Kilbride line taking place. Once completed ScotRail will use the Class 320, Class 380 and Class 385. Why not electrify the rest of the Glasgow South Western line down to Dumfries and Kilmarnock and to electrify from Ayr to Stranraer.
So will this marvellous 🤩 new rail project *only* go as far as LEVEN[mouth] or might it go even further (to places like 👍🏻 CRAIL, ANSTRUTHER & ST. ANDREWS)?
It's to carry out concrete repairs, given the viaduct is over 120 years old, we need to look after it. The work will extend its life, as Laura says in the film.
This bridge was awaiting repairs when I first arrived to Glasgow in 2005 and there was absolutely no change in the situation when I moved out in 2022... But, I guess, better late than never ;-)
i literally wonder if the east kilbride line will use 385s, 380s, 318s and 320s for their routes i mean it will probably be 385s, 380s, 318s and 320s most likely but it would also have a huge number of 380s though
Hi Ryan, we've not got rid of any tracks, it's just been remodelled to make the layout more suitable for today's railway. The old one was first installed in the 1970's, when the railway was very different.
The forth rail bridge doesn't look a day old at all. That's why Edinburgh is called the San Francisco of the UK. Edinburgh's incredibly hilly and its forth rail bridge shares similarities to the Golden Gate Bridge.
I might have thought that there would be some local note of this excellent improvement. Perhaps the Provost making a visit, something in the local press. Perhaps there was but it didn't feature in this video. Brilliant for so many that this improved facility is in place. Well done a'body.
