Seen comment ejecting round and cycling round back into magazine. Too much cycling of rounds can force the round loose and/or sink the round further down the brass. Agree pre action press check, mag seated and gun fully in batttery. Glocks, press checking to see if something is in the chamber, nit necessarily a live round, but something in there is not necessary. You can tell if something is in the chamber on a glock because the ejector will stuck out flush ti the slide. It is designed this way. Not sure if that info is common knowledge. Juat thought id put that out there.

Remarkably pragmatic. The most important is to establish a routine and stick to it. For example we teach mag pull immediately after insertion, every time, all the time. This is not seen very often in America but the insertion force empty (dry training) vs loaded is very different. Add dirt/sand/mud, powder residues and possibly malfunction of the mag retainer, and the only way to be certain the mag is engaged is to pull back on it. I think it’s the first video I ever seen on RU-vid where someone advocates pulling back on the mag. I’m against press checks for two reasons: 1) you should know the condition of your weapon and 2) in some conditions the full force of the recoil spring is necessary to ensure the gun is in battery, to the point we teach not to use the slide release lever but to always pull the slide back and let go. Press check carries a small risk of leaving the gun unable to fire, and the whole point of a routine is to reduce risks. But to each their own. Good content.

Thanks for the critical stuff. Hard to find legit reviews. I don't want something that's not tight and the trigger be accessed unintentionally.

Not sure if it counts as a press check, but I would run the slide and eject a round, drop the mag, re-insert the round, seat the mag and go about my day.

I’d rather have polymer than Kydex. Don’t lose the Allen wrench. It has an extra long stem to reach through the exterior hole on the release button, to the paddle bolt.

Lifetime warranty only applies to their kydex holsters, not the soft holster you review which only has a one year warranty. Mine wore out and they woulddo nothing for me.

Whether you press check or not tells me if you been in combat before. It separates the operators from the armchair commandos…..if you only shoot at targets and the gun goes click…..no big deal. In a bad situation, you may not have time to “tap-rack 😮😳

I appreciate the straightforward answer to this question. I've seen a couple of the other "in your face" clips that teach nothing except that some people are stuck on their own importance. I particularly appreciate mentioning the PCI concept ~ I work in other critical areas and recognize that this Pre-Event mindset can have a huge effect on the outcome when things start "happening".

He has a point, IF you placed your pouch/mags incorrectly. From my experience, if you have your mag pouch horizontal, keep the pouch on your dominant/gun side and rounds facing up. That way your support hand can naturally open that kind of pouch or simply grab from an open top with a more natural reload/grip sithout excess movement. I prefer my mag pouches canted at a 45 degree on my nondominant side, as it becomes a more natural way than vertical or horizontal.

As I write this it is 2022 and I live in Central Florida where our governor, Ron DeSantis, has pledged to sign a constitutional carry bill into law. I have a CCW and have renewed it multiple times and always keep one or more firearms within arms reach, although not necessarily on my person. My home state of Missouri has had constitutional carry for 5 years and it seems to be working. I am very concerned that there are two classes of people who carry lawfully. Law enforcement and everyone else. Law enforcement essentially operates with limited restrictions. Everyone else has to abide by a great set of limitations such as where you can carry, when you can carry and why you can carry. The founding fathers never intended it to be this way. Their assumption was that people had the right to carry any time, all the time, wherever you wanted, for whatever reason you deemed necessary. It is only since the late 1800s as people moved into bigger cities with high population density that politician felt the need to regulate and control the use and carrying of weapons, of any type. At the time of the founding of America people knew that there would be the lawless, criminals of every type etc. What they did not know is that statesmen would decline in existence and that politicians would take the lead in the control of our government. Constitutional carry should be the law of the land in all 50 states, period.

I've been doing this for years. Made it a habit everytime I picked up or pulled from holster to see if it's loaded It's actually easier than using both hands to me also cooler looking. Never knew it was a it was called a press check.. And it is also on man on fire, pre John wick coolness.

100% - I carry every single day and I just don't know if the bad luck fairy disarmed my EDC gun in the middle of the night. So, you bet your ARSE I remove my mag, inspect. Press check and inspect for live round, give the back of the slide a fist bump to ensure it's in battery (G43 is fickle) and re-insert mag (give it a tug) and re-holster before I EVER strap it to my body. Your life could literally depend on it.

big thing with the sammy belt....unless you got big hips, get tac suspenders! i had to learn this the hard way and ended up with a bad sore on my gun side hip. once i got the suspenders, things were far far better...not to mention my back and hips had virtually no weight bearing on it (very comfy!)

Question, press checking the g 17 (even slightly) pushes a round foward in the magazine. Doesnt happen with either the g43x or g48. Is this normal? all are stock and never jammed.

I have had one of these for the CZ P-07 for well over two years now. It’s a heck of a good holster. It has held up as a winter carry holster just fine. I also use it when hunting. It is not a fobus knock-off it’s far better than them. The release is excellent…and somehow I have managed not to get anything stuck behind it despite being around twigs, dirt, couch cushions and the like.

One of the best quick and concise bullet points on the issue. Police were never meant to be the sole deterrent and protection. People need to start thinking about what makes sense. Not emotional sense, but logical sense. We're living in a world driven by raw emotion and that is in itself extremely dangerous. Unchecked human emotion is chaos. It takes a strong person to make the hard choices in life that are always against their emotion. It is never foolish to do what is necessary, and that doesn't go both ways.

I don't understand one thing, if it's a well lit environment, you rack the slide, you see the round going in the chamber and you visually see that the slide is not out of battery...what's the benefits of doing a press check? What else are you confirming that you haven't already by simply seeing the gun working as expected?
@alexmaurice4274
@alexmaurice4274 2 года назад
Sometimes I’ll do it to kinda double check I’m either clear or loaded a few mins after I chamber a round if I’m out just shooting for fun and was focused on something else for a minute
@markabrian1925
@markabrian1925 2 года назад
From what I gathered, it's not only jist to ensure that there is a round in the chamber, but the whole habitual check of doing this everyday just ensures you for the time you got your weapon with you, is that it will do what you need it to do. It's just like when I first learned to drive from a driving school, they told us to always walk around your vehicle before getting in and inspect your tires and lights to see if anytning is cracked or broken. It's a habit we all should do but never do. If we should be checking our vehicle daily. Why not our firearm? You may notice your front sight post isn't centered because you dinged your pistol on a doorframe, or the magazine got stuck on a small peice of debris while releasing it.
@michaels33
@michaels33 Год назад
Because despite the tacticool world guys who can observe it during the split second when the round strips and enters the chamber, mistakes do happen to mere mortals. A poorly seated mag can mean a round doesn't strip off the top. So if you have a second or two, it's a slower more deliberate way to visually see that round is chambered, rather than counting on what you saw in that millisecond of it going into battery.

I’ve had magazines that just sucked and wouldn’t feed ammo before, id pull the charging handle or rack the slide just to find out a bullet never got pushed into the chamber but this was only with specific magazines, the mags just wouldn’t seat properly for some reason
