You get whats called a uniform allowance. Ever year you get some money to buy gear. DOC gave us $900 when we started and $600 ever year after. What you do with that money is up to you. Most of my friends buy stuff online to save some of that cash.

A former NYPD officer saw how I have my duty belt set up and gave me the advice to keep as much gear away from my back as possible, I also used to have my TQ on my center back before he gave me a reason not to. Now I carry my TQ on my left side next to my radio, I can reach and apply it with either hand, and if I'm wearing my exterior plate carrier, I have a TQ on their as well... one high, one low!

Adding together the stuff you didn't know the price of: Taser (x26p):$990-$1100 Blackhawk taser SERPA holster:$30-$60 Motorola radio:$300-$450 AXON Body camera mount:$35 AXON Body camera:$350-$450 Freeze +P CS/OC (Defence spray): $20 Total of it should come down to a whopping $1,985 plus the previously mentioned $1,755 which all together will total $3,740 Firearm price can be accounted for by adding the price of the following: Glock 17:$600 Two spare magazines:$45 A Streamlight TLR 1:$125

Tip for the radio - a Motorola Commander 2 mic is a great tool for the XTS5000. It allows for channel and volume adjustment directly from the shoulder mic. As well as a emergency button on the mic.

Lefty here...Just gotta be patient. I swear by Safariland and they make great holsters for pretty much every conventional pistol a LE department will carry in both left/right hand models. Also, those Safariland "light bearing" holsters will fit a Streamlight TLR or Surefire X300 without and problem

Left handed and to add difficulty, from Argentina, so add a 0 to any price you guys pay. I wear plain clothes at work so for search warrants I use a level 2 left handed holster for my Bersa. The rest of the time a Houston internal holster. The rest is just being creative. Before getting the left handed holster I used a right handed level 2, I can shoot with both hands but feel more comfortable using my left hand.

ABSOLUTELY. There are COUNTLESS stories of people saving their own life or the life of someone else because they had a TQ on them. Hey you should look at the Saflok Mk5 hinged handcuffs. My father works as a Police officer with the Queensland Police Service, Australia. He always carries 2 pairs of them at all times and even has a pair sometimes when off duty. They're really awesome cuffs and provide so much control over cuffed offenders especially when they play up. I know first hand when helping out arresting offenders when I've done what you call ride along not allowed here but have done them. Also look at load bearing vests as they're also great at taking the weight off your waist and belt. Reduces back injuries etc as well. I can provide pics and websites for you if you would like.
@RadixTactical
@RadixTactical 7 лет назад
+Corey Dark I'm planning on having hinged as well as chain. I have both and they both serve their purpose. As far as load bearing vests go, I'd love to have them but my department does not approve them.

Outside of freak accidents, the real issue with carrying bulky items in the rear of your duty belt is long term deterioration of your lumbar. Just from sitting in the cruiser and having your lumbar bowed outward. I used to carry a tourniquet on my 6 and now it just goes in my cargo pocket. I look less cool but my back feels a thousand percent better

Question: why do you have to keep your taser on support side? Would it not make sense to have it as a cross draw stored in front of your gun and train on the taser with your off hand? That way you could draw it with left hand and still have your dominent hand ready to draw your gun without having to reholster the taser (which takes precious time) or without dropping the taser to quickly draw you gun?

Just realized that the actual duty belt doesn't look very bulky on the waist but laid down on a table it looks like there is a lot of tools to defend yourself/aid you in certain situations. Did you ever find the duty belt ever heavy or bulky in any situation?
@RadixTactical
@RadixTactical 6 лет назад
Heavy, yes. It’s something you eventually become *somewhat* comfortable with. You certainly feel it during long shifts or if you’re very tired, then it feels like 100 pounds. As far as bulk goes, going through tight spaces, getting in and out of certain cars, and climbing through windows are the first thing to come to mind. Ideally, my old department should have adopted the vest which allows to take gear off your waist and onto the vest.

I love the set up to i agree with he other Poster i would never put something on the small of my back if you get hit and hit the ground really hard you could do nerve damage to your back. but i looks great and as for a leather will it not bleed in really hot weather ?
@RadixTactical
@RadixTactical 8 лет назад
+Scott Alderman Luckily the cuffs as well as the tourniquet are low enough where there would be no issue (and I've suffered a couple tumbles). Though I agree, it is not ideal. Many departments are progressing to load bearing vests, which is a much better choice. As far as the leather bleeding, I work in the south, heat and humidity are abundant and I've had yet to have any issues!

What's your opinion on leg/thigh holsters for duty? They use them where I live.
@RadixTactical
@RadixTactical 6 лет назад
General misuse aside (most people wear them wrong), they obviously have pros and cons. While generally more comfortable and easier to use in cramped cars, they also have a bad habit of pulling up uniform pants legs, and if you have to fight for your weapon, you have to now worry about whatever straps and connectors used, not breaking. I personally like them and have a dedicated mid-ride made by G-Code. But I'm also excited to see the newer products that I honestly think are going to make drop legs obsolete. Safariland makes solid base holsters that drop quite low without having to use a leg strap, as well as hard plastic adapters that rotate, also eliminating straps. There is another company (which name eludes me) that has an option to where you press a button and the holster sits at your belt, and press the button and it drops several inches lower.

@RadixTactical

Its completely dependent on your outer belt. If you have a smooth leather outer like I do, you have many more options. If you have an outer belt with the velcro on the inside, obviously your options are a bit more limited. I like the one I highlighted in the video. Its simple and inexpensive.

Mag pouch that fits the tourniquet. It also fits small flashlights, multi tools, and almost anything you can think of. Phenomenal product.

Per that particular departments rules and regulations, the taser is to be on the opposite side of your handgun, right or left.

Hi, so im looking to become a cop and Is it a good idea? It seems you have to buy most of the stuff you use for on-duty is this true?

It’s all dependent to the department. Some departments provide everything, some are like my old one where I had to buy everything.

@@RadixTactical i also have another question as a police officer do you have to know the areas of the places you patrol or do you have some sort of gps?
@RadixTactical
@RadixTactical 5 лет назад
Both. I'm not aware of any department or even any system that shows automatically where your beat boundaries are. You should know your beat and other beats intimately, but it's also helpful to have a GPS for other reasons.

Yes. If you're a command officer with a gold badge, you'll generally have gold buckles, etc. Instead of silver if you have a silver badge.
@RadixTactical
@RadixTactical 8 лет назад
Each department does things differently. Our badges are both gold and silver. The colors have nothing to do with the status of the officer.

If you dont mind me asking, Whats your waist size? I'm applying for the academy soon and I'm concerned I won't be able to carry nearly as much as id like with my 30' waist.
@RadixTactical
@RadixTactical 6 лет назад
33-34 waist. Keep in mind that if you live in a colder area, you’ll want your uniform pants slightly larger in order to comfortably wear extra layers. That will also effect belt size. So buy a belt that provides room to go larger as well as smaller.

Nice set up, but... But based in my experience, I like to give you my opinion about your belt. I think to have gear in the spine line, specially handcuffs, is too risky. If you fall in to your back, you may hurt yourself in a critical place. You don't have leather/anti cut gloves in your belt, maybe you carry them in another place, but I think it's critical to have your hands protected. And last, but not least, the tq that you carry in your back, could be very difficult to access if you get injured in a leg, or if you were laying on your back. You know, your 30sec window for placing yourself the tq runs out very fast, so every second count. And the back, may be not the ideal place for me. For example, I'm carrying it in a eleven10 kydex holsters,attached to my safariland 6004 dropleg plate, In the front of my body, and another tq in my personal body armor pocket. One TQ in the left side, and another in my right. Any way, this is only my opinion, always from the professional respect, I'm glad to discuss any belt setup with all of you. I'm always open to learn an improve. Regards to everyone from Spain
