IMO, doing the loop is about two things. Spending time on the water exploring waterways and sights, and spending time in ports exploring bars and restaurants. So many times people talk about the former and ignore the latter. Nice video. Much appreciated.

Enjoy the life and be safe .

I love the CP59 and have been trying to absorb as much as I can about it. I see that you have the Bimini top stowed, but unfortunately from your video we can’t see the arch. Did it clear the bridge or did you have to lower it down? Thanks, I’ve enjoyed all your videos!
@Mac94920
@Mac94920 2 года назад
Sorry for my slow reply Donald. We had to remove the Bimini and lower the radar arch. We had a hinge placed half way down the arch while in Florida. The 59CP is a great boat, so happy we got it. We recently left the Cabo San Lucas area and did the "Baja Bash" and then all the way to the SF Bay Area, it handled the waves great. Thanks and I am glad you enjoyed the videos.

How many feet does it raise the boat when going through that?
@Mac94920
@Mac94920 2 года назад
Locks 1 through 7 raise, or lower, the boat between 43 and 49 feet. Lock 8, which is the closest Lock to Lake Erie only goes up or down a few feet depending on the level of Lake Erie.

Well Roger, maybe I don't like to piss money away and as I said at the end of the video we were happy with the end result. In reference to what I referred to as the "Ugly", it wasn't that big of a deal, but to me a 46% difference in price is a big deal.

Why do you tubers insist on using the most awful music in their videos as soon as I hear it its lost me.
@Mac94920
@Mac94920 3 года назад
Gary it's quite simple why we use the music we do, Copyrights! If I try to publish a video that has any copyrighted music the video will not publish, or in other words be posted on RU-vid for the public to see. I have spent hours going through the RU-vid allowable music library finding music I can live with. I wish I could choose any music and pay a royalty but I do not know of a way to do that. In the mean time, mute the music and turn on your own music.

It's crazy to me that such a long and beautiful trip has only one Bridge holding up thousands of people From completing the loop. I'm sure if everybody put in a hundred bucks they could probably fix this thing and make it a drawbridge or at least something that we can all go under. No matter how you slice it this bridge is an obstacle. You can use the Saint Lawrence River way all the way to the Atlantic Ocean therefore eliminating All the other fixed Bridges.
@Mac94920
@Mac94920 3 года назад
Ron there are many more than this one bridge leaving Chicago. To take the river through downtown Chicago, off the top of my head, you need a clearance of below 17.6 feet. We had to take the Calumet River and there were many bridges where we had to have our radar arch down.
@patrickhynes6058
@patrickhynes6058 Год назад
Hey Ron - I was able to do quite a bit of research on that bridge - also a possible solution to addressing the issue. See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p-1IL4p2oAU.html for the results of the research.

Time was one consideration but we also wanted to get to all 5 Great Lakes. Another consideration was the draft. The Trent Severen is pretty shallow and I did not want to trash my props.

How is it possible to do the great loop in this boat? I thought the lowest bridge clearance is 19‘ ?! Also, what about draft? I am a big fan of Nordhavn boats - I am looking for a N43 or N47.
@Mac94920
@Mac94920 3 года назад
Hi Marc, we did the Loop but there were areas that we could not go. For example we could not do the entire Erie Canal, we had to use the Oswego Canal to Lake Ontatio. We had a hinge placed in the radar arch that got us down to 18 feet clearance. The following is a link to a video I did of us going under the bridge leaving Chicago that has the 19 feet clearance you are referring to: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wLid9B-j8I0.html Fully loaded the draft has about a 5.5 draft which was pretty tight at times.
