Hi Mark, Great tuition…well done. Would you know what size the shaft thickness is in mm and also the length of the shaft. I was wanting to replace the original with a aftermarket ball type knob. Cheers John
Thanks for walking me through servicing this reel. It had been neglected for a couple years and the owner gave up on it. A thorough cleaning and service and now it feels great. I applied some drag grease on the drag washer. Its still dry but I added a touch. Also greased the gear teeth lightly using penn grease. Probably fill the spool with 25 lbs test mono.
Please do service BEFORE you have a stuck handle. I check all 13 handles before each trip, I bring oil on the boat and check them after trips. Mine spin like crazy.
hey mark, on my sx whenever I spin the handle in the wrong direction/engage the dog, the spool spins back with the handle a little bit in the wrong direction. is this normal or something I need to check out. thanks.
Can you tell me why I cant silence my mxj 5.8 mc clicker please? It has only been used once and I did rinse it off. If not Im in Nj is there a repair shop for avets? Thank you
There is a c clip that lets you remove all of the clicker. BE SURE you watch the order of parts! I add a drop of oil to new and used clickers every time I use them. I then work it back and forth to get the oil everywhere. It works for me. I have 10 year old Avets that work like new or better.
Great video! My HXJ 5/2 bearings were so rusted they fell apart when taking them off. I had to break out the blow torch to get the inner sleeves off the shaft. It’s unbelievable how much of a difference proper handle bearings can make. Saved me from buying a new reel! Thanks again 😃
I was asked to service a reel on a ten day. The handle felt very odd. When disassembled I could only find pieces of the two bearings, small pieces. When finished, the lady indicated she could not believe how much it improved the reel. Thanks
Hi Mark, thanks for your interesting videos. I would like to update my AVET JX 6.0 SINGLE SPEED handle knob. What size wrench should be used to remove the knob shaft nut? Thanks
CAN YOU PLEASE CONSIDER DOING A VIDEO FOR THE EX/TRX SERIES OF AVET REELS. YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO HELPFUL AND BETTER THAN ANY OTHERS I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND. THANK YOU
Hello Mark, thanks for the video! It will help me service my own reels. Looking to purchase a Megapro, but do you recommend the manual screw driver or the ratcheting one?
6:08 I noticed the gears popped out really easily. I feel like mine are jammed and I can’t remove them on Jx 6-3 mc raptor. Any suggestions. I did this service (reel is less than 2 years) plenty of oil/grease, just dirty. After service, high gear feel like it’s grinding on down stroke of handle when reeling. Any suggestions?
My drags are greased SX through EX 50 and I get plenty of drag always. Be sure to pay attention and after applying grease try to get as much off as possible. Novices slather it on a have poor drag pressure. Don’t be a novice!

You have great videos. i just wish you would reposition your camer to be closer in and also overhead. Check out 2nd chance tackle's videos to see what i mean - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OCniD_nWRE4.html
Did Avet add a special lock nut after those three washers? Got a new HXJ and handle is not coming off and it looks like there is a locking nut that is the shape of a circle with one flat side holding the handle on.
Wow Mark, like the others I’m so glad to see you back at it. Signature intro too! I’ve been watching for years and I didn’t realize the 7 year time stamp tells it all. I have passed your instructional PM’s to all my friends. I still clean my reels the way you’ve shown us. Now I get to tell my friends your channel is still alive!!
Just ordered two and waiting on them to arrive. As someone used to working with freshwater bait caster style reels, cleaning them is always a dread. This looks so simple and easy to do. Looking forward to these reels arriving.
If you have a digital caliper, measure the inside diameter in fractions, outside and thickness all in fractions like 3/8”. Go to eBay and buy them for $1-$3 each. I do that. I have bought for years from Avet successfully.
Go to Alan Tani’s website. Find the list of bearings on the Avet section. I buy them from EBay. Be sure to search shielded bearings by OD, ID, and thickness. $1 each.
*Great reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend very smooth and I love that you can change from left hand to right hand so easily. Gave it a 4 on durability because I haven’t had it long enough to rate it. Doing good so far.*
I suggest thoroughly cleaning the shift button. Pay attention to how tightly you make the nut. Most folks over tighten it. Loosen it one tooth on the plate that stops it from loosening. Best of luck.
Hey mark great video. I installed a hxw raptor handle on my hx raptor and when i shift to low gear it has a tendency to pop out of low gear by itself and go back into high gear. The only thing ive found to fix it is loosening the screws that hold down the push knob cover. Do you have any suggestions on what i can do to fix it? Thanks
Thank you for this informative video ,I just received my avet jx single speed I like right out of the box ,some reviews stated that the drag get hot ,do have any pointers about that issue?
*I like the drag, size, weight, line capacity and durability>>>**allabout.wiki/01fs** I have 3 Penn Battles 6000's and 1 Penn Clash 6000. Never had any issues. I have caught Blue Fin, Dorado, 6 plus foot Thresher Sharks and Mako on the Battle 6000. Its my go to reel. I have several other popular brand reels also and they work fine, but I always find myself grabbing a rod with the Penn reel on it. I looking on Amazon now for another reel. I'm leaning towards the Penn Slammer maybe 5000 this time for no specific reason other than I want to try another reel from Penn.*
Oh boy I just found this gem. I just bought a used JX 6/3 raptor last year used it twice then shutdown. This is either going to be the greatest video ever or the worst.
I would like to add a power handle to my Raptor JX 6_3. is there anything I should be on the lookout for when changing out the speed housing and the actual arm itself?
I notice you don't mess with the shift button to go from high to low. I usually after every trip put a drop of oil at the button and work it in the reel. Have you ever had a need to disassemble and service that area of the reel?
Paul Morgan - I do the same thing every time. I bring a small 2 ounce bottle of GetSome to do this on trips. I hit the spin areas of the handle too where corrosion seems to build. Tight lines and stay safe.
