An instructive video showing how to easily service your Avet JX 6/3 2-speed reel in about ten minutes. Simple tools and supplies are needed; very little skill is required.
Thanks for walking me through servicing this reel. It had been neglected for a couple years and the owner gave up on it. A thorough cleaning and service and now it feels great. I applied some drag grease on the drag washer. Its still dry but I added a touch. Also greased the gear teeth lightly using penn grease. Probably fill the spool with 25 lbs test mono.
Great video these are. Use very little grease on Avet gears. I grease each tooth of the pinion gear and put none of the drive gear. The amount on the pinion is plenty to spread around the main gear. I'd also remove the handle, dog and main gear at least once a season. Stuff gets trapped behind the gear and it's super easy. You can disassemble every piece, clean, service and reassemble any Avet reel in less than 20 minutes.
Awesome video!!! I like to service my reels myself. I went into my reel not knowing what to expect. After watching your video I will go back into my reel and lube all the bearings correctly!! Thank you once again AMAZING video, simple yet very informative, easy to follow and great camera work!!
Thanks for the video Mark! Great quality and very informative. Are the guts of the Raptors similar? How do you "deep" service you reel? Any chance of an in depth video?
I grease the gears sparingly. I cover the teeth fully but with a fairly thin coat. My worry is putting too much on there and having this negatively affect the s shaped dog mechanism. Grease and look carefully at the dog actuator arm and remove all grease that gets under it. Oil is great there and grease is very bad and can cause a dog failure. I do not cover the entire inside of the reel with grease as some folks like. I HAVE fixed several reels that just did not work well covered in grease inside. Simply removing the grease, oiling the inside lightly brought everything back to normal. Clean is good.
I use grease on the gears sparingly. I use grease on all screws and between any two dissimilar metals like aluminum and stainless steel. I am NOT a fan of coating everything with a thick layer of grease. I service often instead.
hello I have a reel avet sx which disarmament to clean but join him when I forget how to do this I need a mini video of how they washers on the right side of the reel for q now to launch vibrates
Question...recently bought a new 6.0 avet single gear lh retrieve reel and it is noisy as heck. Is this normal? Also when applied tension to the spool with drag you can hear a shhhh noise. And it only free spools for about two seconds. Is it bearings or does it need a little oil? Much appreciated and great video
