Hey Marcus, thanks for the great video. If the batteries themselves totally died (or one or the other) on the original g4, would that make the unit completely dead as well? My g4 of almost 3 years just died and won't power on at all. Wondering if I can replace the batteries as a possible fix.
@marcuss6950 thanks for the reply. I opened it up and man those batteries are a pain to get to, and seemingly above my pay grade to replace. More wires than I expected. Might just have to bite the bullet to replace. If it helps make you think of anything else that could have died, it lost power during a really hot day and hasn't shown sign of life since. 3 y/o unit with no previous problems. Even put it in the fridge for an hour
You’re right. The water prefers specific paths and some parts of the screen are more active than others, on both screens. Probably lines up with the direction of holes in the screws.
Great work! Love the memory for different portifilters too. Do you think a flow meter for volumetric could also work? Could the Pi power and process a flow meter?
I know this video is a year old but WOW, great video I've come across looking for help getting over my fear of making espresso with my new machine. The step by step explanations along the way, right down to cleaning as you go, are absolutely perfect. I was intimidated by my machine but now am approaching it with confidence. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!
Great tutorial! Out of curiosity, is there a certain amount of pressure that one applies/pushes into the espresso beans puck before attaching the porta filter to pull the espresso? Like, when you were making sure the grounds were level/tamping it down, did you apply a certain amount of weight? (Or, did you only make it level?)
Awesome video. Just picked up a 2021 e-tron and man I drive the speed limit and still the best I have seen is 2.7 mi/kWh. This is at 55 deg F and basically sea level. And the best charging speed I’ve seen is 127 kW at 39%. So your numbers are shockingly amazing. Hopefully as the weather improves my efficiency will too.
Hi Marcus, Great idea! 👋Great project ;-) ... 👍👍 I am actually working on another ESP project, with some D1 Mini ESP's ... Enough CPU and a single GPIO for this Micra steering should be available on all ESP's ?!.. Wonder about the display ... I looked at ESP boards. There are some with a display integrated. May be you can share the part-list you used for this project ? The intelligence of your Arduino project is in the script ;-) .. I presume no GitHub page where this, or even a beta of it, does exist? Enjoy your cofee .. Looks btw, great and tasty ..
Very Impressive! Great job on this. My super anal-retentive mind would want to slightly tweak the button layout and size of device. I would probably line up the 3 buttons to the right and centered inline with the size of screen, reduce the blank space at the top and bottom (shrinking the height by ~ .75 to .5 inches), and move the switch the side on the box. :)
I have this machine and I am thinking to return it. I am a type of person that needs a 24 ounce cup of Joe in the morning and there is no cop that will fit under the spout in this machine. That’s really disappointing.
I just got my barista touch and I feel like too much grinds comes out and I end up wasting coffee. How do I fix this with grind size/time? I don’t want to weigh my beans
Perhaps a silly question. Does the pro version still work if you remove that battery? I'm thinking of course of the poe-power option, using the usb-c converter to provide power to the device that way. I'm struggling for clarity on these specifics. I know there is a pure poe version meanwhile, which is nice, but definitely cannot connect to an oldschool mechanical chime. What I would really like is the ability to poe-power the doorbell, and still have it activate the mechanical chime on press. Ideally without any lithium pack installed(!). Any insight greatly appreciated...
Great improvements since your last iteration! Two questions: 1. Would this be possible to achieve through a standalone app (e.g. like the la marzocco home app), or is the hardware you’ve built needed? (Wondering if this is the reason LM state older lunars aren’t compatible?) 2. Would this work with other Bluetooth enabled scales? e.g. Felicita arc Amazing work!
The official LM brew by weight for the Mini doesn’t work with any Acaia branded scales, old or new. They use custom firmware on scales sold and supported by LM, I think in function the scale itself turns the machine off similar to what the phone app can do. Yes, another type of scale could be adde. One of the things I had considered is coming up with a generic scale interface.
Thanks for this, do you happen to know the best way to disconnect the G4 (non-pro) batteries? my doorbell died in a storm, and I want to take it apart to clean it in IPA and dry it all out. I am loath to remove ribbon cables while battery2 is still connected, the connector isn't on the same side as batt1
Thanks for this video - I had a G4 Doorbell - I had RMA'ed 3 of them to UI and they sent replacements. All due to the cold Canadian winters. The Doorbell Pro is currently on sale ($199 USD or $269 CDN) and I just ordered a Pro based on your video. Here's hoping that it'll last longer!
Very inspiring. I am working on a DIY brew by time project. Did you find power in the machine for your controller - or do you have an external power supply?
I just opted to run 5v through the chassis from a separate supply. I suspect I could have found 5v from the board on the back or even hard wired something internally , but this was the easiest option for now.
If you read this, could you provide some infos on the OS and settings you used for this project? I am very familar with C and some C++ but sadly my linux skills are of a very weak site.
Very nice work! I love the use of the Raspberry Pi. I own a Mini and given that the Micra and Mini use the same paddle switch approach, I would imagine it would work for both. I would happily buy the build instructions or the finished product if you were heading in that direction. I've built some Raspberry Pi projects and this would be a blast to DIY something like this for my Mini...Kudos for your ingenuity...seriously, what a great piece of engineering!
Absolutely amazing work. It would be so good if you can post the bill of materials, code and 3d files so the community can replicate and iterate! I have a gaggiuino myself and lack of BBW was one thing keeping me from upgrading to an LMLu. I’d 100% buy a Micra if you publish this project.
Dude, your stuff rocks! Seriously, you need to start selling it. People would eat this up haha I can imagine it would be nice to have it place on top of the machine like a little integrated display top panel in wood or somethin. Thanks for sharing anyway! Continue the awesome work!
Amazing work! Seeing how easy this is, I can’t undestand why LM doesn’t give us the option from the beginning or with a paid upgrade to the Micra. I’m also interested in the pad you have on the top.
