I have the theory that every Patches is the exact same person, and the rules do not apply, or rather he operates beyond the universal laws, as every character is virtually the same, same motivation, opinion and prejudices, even down to weapon and armour. A true creature of habit, which ties in with the cyclical nature of time in the games. And especially taking his name literally in ER, untethered.
@@demonicspire1345 you don’t see it here either.. Edit: oh it’s you again. I’m british dude.. unless you’re trollin’ I can be aussie if you want baby 😘
I'm super late on this but regarding the name difference from Japanese to English, Japanese doesn't really use plural versions of words. So maybe it was intended as multiple patches in Japanese to begin with but they don't have a word for it other than putting a number in front of it or something of the sort.
super cool to see aspects of From Soft's quest system that they would go on to use in the souls games here in this game. Stuff like interacting with the guy at various points only for certain triggers to move him along. Very very cool, I would love to see From Soft revisit the first person dungeon crawler genre at some point, a new Shadow Tower game would be sick.
@@BlinJe BROTHER I CANNOT WAIT! I just discovered this channel and it made me want to replay Evergrace, Forever Kingdom, Eternal Ring and Shadow Tower SO BAD. I am so glad to not feel like the only one remembering these older From games!
in addition to the armored core patch. in Elden Ring Patches gives up fighting you as well so he's very similar in elden ring to his Armored core counterpart
Yeah, I think I can see why From Soft never really bothered with firearms past this game; they can't balance them for shit. No, the quicksilver musket from Bloodborne doesn't fully count as that thing is primarily a stun/parry tool and not a serious damage dealer. I'm sure this game is a fair challenge if you're doing melee only, but man do the guns make this a cake walk.
I forgot they made armored core. I don't know then. Whatever the case the balance feels like it's all over the place. It kind of makes me want a Uwe Boll style developer commentary.
Fun fact; the armor of Tiber Septim can be retrieved without all the hassle with the skeletons, you can blast it towards you with a staff or scroll of fireball and pick it up without breaking the barrier.
never understood the complaints about the controls sure they're different and definitely non-standard but after a couple hours you forget that you've got unusual controls at all
Interesting. I never saw this "Ruriphon" before, but that name feels like it is "ruler slayer", she looks like Hel, and she has the horns of a Titanite Demon.
Your voice too good to fall asleep to and i was tired af last night so i passed out at some point and idk where to start the video back up from 😭 Just gonna skip forward through it until i dont remember what i'm hearing and go from there i think
9:40 iirc Japanese doesn't pluralise a noun by adding a suffix ("-s") but by having some word in the sentence saying it's plural. So Patch and Patches would both translate from Patchi in Japanese - Google translate thinks so too -, meaning it's the same character but the translations have changed between appearances.
You mentioned the idea of the voice actors recording lines on different days despite being part of the same scene and according to multiple sources that might actually be true. The reason is that the VAs were supposedly given their lines in alphabetical order. So they didn’t have context for the scenes and they didn’t all flow together. So that means it’s completely possible the tone is so janky because they weren’t recorded on the same day.

Idk why i suck so much ballage at this game. I can 1cc Contra Hard Corps but often die from dumb mistakes on this game even on the first level. Maybe my brain needs more time to adjust to the polarity mechanic. I'm enjoying the video. Thanks for looking out for noobs like me.
I always wondered if the japanese name was the same as the word for a software update. Because it feels like a cheeky miyazaki joke about patching software being a pain in the arse.
@BlinJe fair enough. I just looked it up,and patchi does mean software patch as well. I do think it's a game dev joke. You think you are doing well until the patch kicks you down a hole..
@@BlinJe I am watching them right now! I love the style and the edits. I just think that a normal playhtough would expose more gameplay: how swordplay works, what weapons are there and how they differ. I think challenge runs are more enjoyable if you already know how the game works.
@@grandekeba Ah yeah man. that's a valid point. I'm doing that challenges atm because it's a niche that's worked for me, and it's something I enjoy. I'm planning to move to normal playthroughs for certain un-sung games like Lost Kingdoms! in a couple of videos time
