@@Everydaygarageman Word of advice when putting LED's in old cars: do not replace any sort of "battery charge" indicator light with an LED. Without going in depth, the resistance of the incandescent bulb is critical to charge circuits. The alternator will never start charging, and the indicator light will stay on perpetually. I'm not sure what sort of bulbs 924's use in their cluster, but if there is a discrete bulb for that warning, leave it alone. the rest of the dash cluster lights should be fine to swap with LED's.

Yes! I thought that was really neat. I can't remember exactly what I did with it, but I'm pretty sure I removed it and placed it in a safe sleeve.

Did you replace the brake hoses? One on each front wheel and one at the rear axle? When you first said it was locked up that's the first thing I thought it was. I just replaced them on my 69 fastback.

Kudos for having the patience and courage to go ahead with such a labor-intensive job. I gotta wonder though - is there some sort of shop secret hack method to move the bell housing without disconnecting the whole gearbox?

I resurfaced mine, just because I was being cheap it's like $30 vs like $350 for basically the same thing, but if I could do it again. I would definitely get new ones just for aesthetic reasons.

Thanks for the reminder. You are right. I think it’s neat that your son is interested with cars and working and learning about those things. Sounds like you and him have a good relationship. I’m retired, my wife and I have raised 11 children, all ours, 5 are boys. As they were growing up, only one really got into doing his own work. Oh well that’s fine. Hope you’re project continues to go well. 👍🏻

@@JosephStalin1941 You too. Good luck with the Catalina. That’s going to be sweet. Most of the mechanical work is done on mine. Next is the electrical - whoever worked on it before probably knows what’s going on but every time I try to work on it, I just see a mess. Got a new wiring harness waiting on Dakota Digital to send the gauges before I get going on it.

Your grandparents were smart to keep it. I sold my '68 390 GT Torino fastback red with white C stripe white interior many years ago. I miss that car and I proposed to grandma (my wife) in it. Wish I still had it. Glad to see a survivor still being loved by a family member. Nice restore and I think keeping the patina on the paint is the right move. Good Job!

@Everydaygarageman
@Everydaygarageman 6 месяцев назад
I used rust removal to eat away all the surface rust then, I sprayed it off which left it bare metal, so I polished it with a heavy polish, and ceramic coated to keep it from rusting again. And it turned out beautiful

I have a '69 GT. My OLDER brother was telling me that it was a waste and that no one under 50 cares about those cars. I said, "So what, I'm over 50." One of my coworkers has a new Audi something. He brags that its the fastest production car Audi makes. My 17 year old son was impressed that someone I worked with had an R8. I told him it wasn;t an R8, it was some "electric" car. His response was "Electric car? That doesn't count. Electric cars aren't cool." 17 years old. BTW: My daily driver is a Nissan Leaf. My work has charging stations we use for free. I don't even have to pay for the electricity. The money I save on gas goes into restoring my 10 mpg '69 Torino GT.

First I 100% agree it's great to see younger kids appreciating classic muscle. But I completely understand why it's different for the newer generation. From the mid 70's to the late 90's those late 60's early 70's muscle cars were the fastest cars you could buy. They ruled the roads for 30 years. But for younger kids, cars just kept getting better and better every year. To each their own. I'm rebuilding a '69 Torino right now. My son is 17 and his dream car is a Volkswagen Bus. If some kid is into tuning a Honda Civic or a Subaru WRX, I say power to them. That's the beautiful thing about this. Find what YOU like, build it the way YOU want, and make it your own. Just because it might not be what I am into or the way I would do it, doesn't mean it isn't cool to somebody else. There are times when I see something and think, "Whoa, that's terrible. I can't believe somebody would do that to that poor car." But I would never say it out loud because it might be the car that somebody has dreamed about for years and who am I to $#!t on somebody else's dream. anthonycassata5152, I'm not saying that is what you are doing. This is just my public service announcement to the car world.
