There can be no room for reasonable doubt that the Self exists. However, 'we' - the ego cannot 'find' the Self. The most 'we' (as individuals) can do is to endeavour to create the environment in which the Self finds or rather reveals its Self. Paul

I am very far from the strength and renunciation necessary to get beyond the false self awareness; but I can be aware of what I do and observe from the witness consciousness at least a little. And I can repeat the name of G-d. And I can try to do service. And I can sometimes sense the pure awareness that is the reflection of the ultimate, if I stop and put my attention within.

Boy, he's really trying as hard as he can to convince himself that his belief system is reality. There is absolutely no evidence supporting the idea that consciousness is anything other than brain and nervous system activity. Obviously it's not the mind or body, it's an activity of the mind and body. Like running. Consciousness is as much of an object as running. So however you want to define it.

Yes your understanding is correct but the word you are using can be misleading. You should say the Self cannot be seen because it is the seer. The word " finder" you are using can also means to refer to the body, because the body-mind is searching the Self. The Self is not finding itself, it is just conscious of the ego finding the Self.
What a formidable talk ! Swami Srvapriyananda is a modern genius on Spirituality. His talks have generated a new spiritual inquisitivenes amoungst a young population in the west. This was the dream of Swmai Vivekananda- being fulfilled

Actually the British cleverly replaced our native - language education with English so that we could be their clerks and sepoys, while they took away everything they considered of value. It is a fact we have not radically recovered from that yet. But not only does India's future sustenance depend on the conservation of its spiritual paths, but the future of the world depends on the world's grasp of Indian spirituality. Discern the genuine and don't dwell too much on the false so that your mind gets dyed in it.
