Spirituality has surged in popularity, becoming a staple in corporate culture and daily life. Silicon Valley icons embrace spiritual gurus, mirroring a broader trend. Companies invest in mindfulness and meditation apps, while spirituality enhances dating profiles. Yet, the mainstreaming of spirituality carries risks, notably the potential for ego inflation and superficial engagement. Practices like mindfulness and Neo-Advaita, while glamorous, may foster intellectualism over genuine spiritual growth.
Amidst these trends, Swami Medhananda advocates for a less flashy but more effective spiritual practice: prayer. Unlike trendy mindfulness or Advaita, prayer engages the heart rather than just the mind. Drawing from diverse spiritual traditions, prayer is depicted as a multifaceted practice. It includes verbal petition, surrender, recollection, adoration, thanksgiving, longing, and confession.
Swami Medhananda emphasizes the authenticity of prayer, distinguishing it from mechanical repetition. True prayer involves genuine longing and heartfelt connection with the divine. Unlike some spiritual practices, prayer doesn't require intermediaries; it's a direct communion with the divine.
Quoting spiritual luminaries and drawing parallels across traditions, Swami Medhananda underscores the transformative power of prayer in fostering humility, selflessness, and spiritual growth. Ultimately, prayer is portrayed as a profound and accessible path to divine realization, encompassing various forms and depths of devotion.

This swami smells like ego yet he is talking about others being overly intellectual and narcissistic. As a great sage said. “ it may be a lie to say I am Brahmin buts it’s a greater lie to say, I am not Brahmin”.
