Asheville is trashier than san francisco….ruined the city….ive lived in the piedmont for 30 years…i avoid asheville like the plague….i avoid all native waters too…too risky to find yourself on the wrong end of reparations….
You're having trouble setting the hook because you twitch your fod tip like you do in conventional fishing, twitching a fly rod puts slack in your fly line, making harder to set the hook. Also, reel in your fly line so you can fight the larger fish with the drag on the reel and not have to worry about the fish pulling the line out of your hand.
4x tippet and 5 wt fly rod my man…size is relative to the gear and the situation. We’ve caught 50lb+ cats and drum on meat stick conventional rods, we know fish get bigger than this one 😂
Recently we’ve gotten away from name-dropping streams, but happy to share this location if you dm us on Instagram. I can tell you though, this is a Delayed Harvest section and they’re very easy to find. Just google search “NC trout map” and you’ll find an interactive map of all the designated nc stocked and wild trout water. DH streams show up as dotted lines. I’d wait until October when they stock DH to go check some out near you.
Osprey and bald eagle where I fish and never ceases to amaze me watching them birds 🤙 they're like the buzzard-roadkill equivalent lol. Love the content man
Regardless of what you are fishing for, Cat, bass, Pike, trout even, You should be using a 30 pound braid. It is strong enough to pull almost anything out of that river yet has the diameter of 8 pound line. I have to buy special cutters just to clip my line. No fish has broken it yet.
Is it just me or does this shit look staged? There's a tin of slack wriggle in the line i. The beginning and there's clearly several cuts in the video that seem like they're far enough apart that it would give you time to "poorly" edit out the part where you put a pre-caught or bought fish in the line. Ive been fishing for nearly 28 years and ive never ince seen my line do that ~~~~ thing yours did in the beginning of the clip. Unless you upload an uncut version of this video im gonna assume you hooked a half dead fish and threw it in the water to make it look like you caught a decent one. And yes i will absolutely be checking you channel for that video and will retract my comment if i do infact see an uncut version of this.
*edit: yup I was infact wrong and there is an uncut version of this video. And i believe the reason that I've never seen that ~~~ in a line after a hit is probably because I don't fly-fish. Which I didn't realize that he was doing in the video when I made my original comment. So that said, I retract my accusation that this was staged as I promised. and I commend him for landing it that whopper of a catfish. It's very likely the biggest fish around that river for miles.
The ORVIS Battenkill Reel is a great reel. When I first began Fly fishing, approx. 18 years ago...the first Rod and Reels I purchased were a 4-wt and 6-wt ORVIS Clearwater rods and a Battenkill Barstock II and Battenkill Barstock III reels. They both have a basic drag adjustment. A few years later, I added an ORVIS CFO IV reel, originally made for ORVIS by the Hardy Reel Company in England...it is a true "click-and-pawl reel. All of my ORVIS reels have been flawless, offering trouble-free service all of these years.
Damn son. The fish was behind the words on your screen. 1 or 2 more seconds ffs!?! It doesn't entice me to your videos. It s just annoying so I scroll past.
