Hey anvish! Two shaves down with the Timeless Ti .95 OC and i am really liking it! Thanks for the reco! Also got the MdC fougere and my goodness what a luxurious lather it generates!
Hi Avnish! I am considering getting the Timeless OC .95 I have been wet shaving for couple of years but i am little intimidated by the concept of an Open Comb. How safe is the Timeless OC .95?
Hi Ashwin, hope you are keeping well. It's a very safe razor. Smooth feel with regards to the teeth on the open comb. It does however have plenty of feedback, by that I mean blade feel and audio. It is extremely efficient and doesn't clog up if being used to shave heavy growth. A great razor.
@@Avnishfromedgware Thanks for this Avnish! My beard growth is very similar to yours so this acts as a good reference point! Will most likely take the plunge!
Hello mate hope your well, just wanted some advice I have this exact same Razor just with a wolfman Handel also so my Razor weight is around 130 grams, IV been really struggling to get good shaves, was just wondering what angel do you think is best with this Razor and also what is your favourite blade to use with it ? Would really appreciate your help
Would you say that you should hold that razor closer to a 40 degree angle opposed to the 30 degree used with most other safety razors to cut the whiskers?
I just ordered a ShaveMac brush. The cream colored one that similar style to a Thater. I live in New Jersey about how long do you think it will take? I ordered my brush on April 22, Since it’s coming straight from Germany I figured it would take a little bit longer
I have titanium .68 scaloped polished is it true or any difference with non scaloped smooth top cap and baseplate.. I haven’t tried .95 baseplate would it be more aggressive or smooth? What’s your take on Alan H
first shavemac arrived yesterday 2band silvertip i purchased it because of your videos, hands down the best knot i have tried. I got the handle shape 173 in Cocobolo Wood.... i hope the wood last a good few years. I will buy another 2band silvertip on Friday from shavemac, thinking i get a bulb this time..... wanting to get wood handle again but im scared it doesnt last :D. anyway ty for the detailed videos on shavemac knots
Your welcome I hope you enjoy the brush. I have a snake wood handled Shavemac brush. I would advise using renaissance wax. Leaves no finger prints or marks and is not greasy. From memory it is the same wax used in the natural history museum. Good stuff.
Hi man, thanks for the video. I know there are plenty of variables here, but would you recommend a bulb two band for a daily shave on a sensitive skin?
Hello my friend, to be honest I now sport a beard so I only part shave, which wouldn't be worthwhile making a video for. Primarily as the hardest parts to shave I don't (e.g. chin). Also as I don't edit any of my videos the mistakes when watched back are cringing :)
@@Avnishfromedgware thanks so much for your reply glad you are ok. That's a shame I thought with all your nice shave gear you would love to shave, you also have amazing technique. Your videos come across very natural just be yourself and relax you have alot of subscribers so in sure a lot of people like me loved your videos but of course the main thing is you are happy:) just wondering what are your favourite DE razors and badger brushes ?
@@vdlorenzo2578 thank you for the compliments. I still enjoy shaving, just do it less for reasons above. Favourite brush has to be an original Lee Sabini knot Paladin Chief from several years ago. Followed by my Shavemac LE from 2105 and 2016, the latter Unique knot is beautiful. My favourite razor is probably the PILS razor but I enjoy several others too.
@@Avnishfromedgware ok I see interesting, do you mean by a original Lee sabini knot a Morris and forndran brush? I actually wanted to ask you a question about shavemac, IV seen the jade brush you have and love and it has gel tips, however I have 2 shavemac brushes in 26 bulb and they are really rough and not soft at all. They are just 2band silvertip with unique knot. Do they still make the knot you have? IV never used a pils razor but surely it can't shave better that your wolfman wr1 0.74 ?
@@vdlorenzo2578 It is a Paladin chief brush with Lee Sabini knot, not a M&F brush. It was bought almost 5 years ago from my website and hasn't been available for a long time. Someone on the forum recently sold one and I was too late to see the sale unfortunately. Being a natural product, hair type can vary. I however don't have a rough badger in a 2 band Unique configuration from Shavemac. That is both as fan or bulb, ranging from 24 to 28mm options.
Great shave! How is the backbone from the d01? I've heard it's intense. Does it perform better than the regular 2 band? I'm debating which one I want to purchase
Thank you for your kind comment. The D01 is a higher density, so if the loft remains constant (when compared to a silvertip-standard 2 band) the backbone will be greater. If set to the correct dimensions the backbone is more apparent without being too rough on the face. In other words a lovely scrubby, but not harsh feel. 24-26 (width) 52-56 (loft) would be my preference with a note to Bernd mentioning the 'feel' preference.
Bernd will provide an invoice with the knot labelled as unique, at least from my past dealings. Other than that I find the knot to be more plush or dense without a rough scrubby feel.
@@Avnishfromedgware ok I see, I'm very disappointed as I request a unique knot but unfortunately in my notes it doesn't say anything about unique knot :( IV tried emailing him but never get a reply :(
@@vdlorenzo2578 I would continue on the email front, I use the same contact as per the Shavemac website and am in conversation with Bernd currently. May have to wait a while if he's busy.
@@PanopticMotion No problem please be aware the knot you have chosen can be very stiff and prickly. The D01 3 band I have is my least favourite. The D01 2 band takes many many uses to relax. Finally the loft you've chosen will have loads of backbone.
You would have to speak to Bernd (Shavemac) regarding the finer details. Handle is an Anchor style and the jade resin is from 'woodturningz' I believe. It was an Limited Edition brush designed by myself and others, the hair is unobtainable it was the 2015/2016 batch of 'Unique Shavemac' hair; outstanding. Knot is meant to be 26/50, mine is around 28/50. The same configuration with the standard 2 band is also a great buy. On our website (www.ATG.com) we are currently organising a variable loft Shavemac brush which could also be of interest to you.
@avnish sood - I tried contacting Bernd at Shavemac a month ago but never heard back. Is there a particular email address is should use other than the info@ email address? Thank you!
@@chaiandchords3225 I know Bernd was moving warehouse, however others have had their orders (recent) fulfilled. I use the same email address as yourself. If you have further issues please send me a private message, through www.atgshaving.com and I can forward it to Bernd, may get a reply quicker.
I wanted quickly confirm with you - is the anchor style number 82 on the shavemac configurator? Also, Bernd replied and mentioned the Jade one you featured is a 26/52 - I was thinking of getting the brush in a bulb shape - will 26/54 be better for that? I’m looking for one with very good backbone. Thanks!
Hi Avnish for a wet shaver with experience using both the Stainless and Titanium Timeless which would you say is the better overall shaver. I’m torn on which one to go for. My goal is for the most comfortable shave while trying to achieve BBS but not sacrificing smoothness or comfort. I shave every 4-6 days so I want to opt for the OC .95 with scalloped cap. Which material do you think would achieve my shaving goals mentioned above. Maybe you could do a side by side comparison of the Ti vs. the SS Timeless. Thanks for any advice you could give.
This is a tough question. Personally for the duration between your shaves I would opt for the stainless steel OC not scalloped at 0.95mm. It will provide greater feedback than the titanium. However and this is huge I only enjoy the SS with their original handle (no longer made) the other subsequent handles I find too heavy making the shave more aggressive. Weight is the only difference between the two options. So if you want something lighter and 'softer' the titanium will provide that from the beginning. Otherwise once you have dialed in the weight of the SS option, it will provide as smooth a shave but with greater audio feedback and face feel.
Thanks, I like the way it holds its shape, with minimal splay. Can I please ask, would be your recommendation for a 24mm Shavemac d01 2 band bulb if someone was looking for strong backbone, no scritch (once broken in) and soft tips but minimal splay? 54 or 56mm?
@@chrisperry440 as a bulb 56mm would be fine, have a word with Bernd (email Shavemac) as he may be better able to make the knot, to your exact requirements. 24mm can be 'pokey' being a small bulb knot with high density, also best mentioning this to Bernd should you not want this.
Thanks @Avnish Sood. I will contact Bernd. I saw the thread in your ATG forum where you discussed knots for a 2017 group buy, so bearing in mind 24mm might be pokey I will start discussions with him for a 26mm d01 2band bulb with 56 loft and get his input into my order.
@@chrisperry440 hi Chris we may have our wires crossed, 24 or 26mm can be pokey it is just down to how the bulb is cut. I would be going for a 24mm if in D01 spec. Loads of info on the forum, if you haven't already check out my "Shavemac classification" thread. For anyone wondering about the site it is: www.atgshaving.com
I experience more aggressive blade feel from the 37C than the S2, but neither are overly aggressive. The S2 is the milder of the two and better balanced IMO.
Timeless is definitely my next razor of choice and from what I hear from many after purchasing a Timeless it’s den clearing time of other razors. I’m interested particularly in the OC .95. Can’t decide if the stainless version or Titanium would be better. I like heavier razors so that favors the SS but I hear great things about the TI version as well.
Thank you for your comment. It's a tough choice. Both are equally efficient. The stainless steel offers a polished version, reducing any drag but the titanium is more nimble. The stainless I find to provide louder feedback when cutting and is very very slightly smoother in my opinion. Unfortunately they don't offer the original (TRH1 I believe, could be wrong) handle with the stainless now so beware of overly heavy handles affecting balance.
Avnish Sood Thanks for you input and I’ll keep that in mind. I’m not sure about then original TRH1 but I was on Timeless website a few days ago and they still offer a version in stainless steel (polished or matte) if the OC .95 I just bought a Rex Ambassador and Karve this past year so have been enjoying those but every corner I turn to in the wet shaving world someone is always mentioning their Timeless and how it’s the best razor in their Den. Thanks again for the feedback....Cheers 🍻
To be honest it's a very personal choice. Make, shape, hair type and loft are all considerations. My preference for Shavemac 2 band silvertip knots is the bulb shape set at 26/48. Badger hair being a natural product varies between batches so that is also something to consider.
Avnish Sood thank you for the answer. I would like to buy bulb shape, knot size 23 and silvertip 2-band. But I am not sure if the 23 mm will be enough for the knot size.
@@petruskapeter85 I'll be honest having owned a few 23mm the only limiting factor is having to reload the brush from the puck, if you want to complete 3 passes. 25mm and above I only need to load once.
So interesting to see Bernd has restarted manufacture of the VLB design I gave to him in 2007. We had problems with them getting sticky in the screw mechanism. I hope he's solved that now!
Hiya, Bernd is still trying to sort out the mechanism, a couple of protoypes have been tested by myself and the mechanism didn't hold up, fingers crossed he can correct all issues.
To be honest I'm not 100% sure. At a guess it probably is a combination of hair quality and density. The hairs appear to clump when wet, forming that honeycomb structure. Soft clumped hairs usually provide a gel type feel.
Great video, I'm looking at picking up a dual comb. Just one question, you say you prefer the solid bar to the open comb is that only for the titanium version or ss as well? I got a little confused when you were explaining that part. Thanks
Hiya, yes precisely that. If I could have a hybrid razor it's head would be half titanium 0.95mm SB and half SS 0.95mm OC. Simple as that. The titanium OC due to the matt finish is smooth but the polished SS is silky smooth; referring to the teeth feel. The titanium SB with a matt finish and reduced weight is a brilliant mild, yet extremely efficient shave. Plenty of blade feel at 0.95mm but equally as comfortable.
@@Avnishfromedgware It could end up looking like an egg timer. Laffin. Maybe the best compromise is to have the loft settings engraved but don't infill it with colour?
Lol! That got me going :) yep I think it may be a case of keeping it as is. Worst case scenario we can measure the knot ourselves and set it to what is desired. Worth seeing what Bernd can do though.
We're hoping before Christmas, but it depends on the testing phase amongst other considerations. For all the up to date progress please follow the second link in the description.
Nice video and equipment! If you like woody scents you should try paa's Han Polo. Another woodsy scent is wsp's sandalwood. Another one is paa's Porthos which has a very woodsy dry down. All awesome scents.
I have almost pulled a trigger on Ti, 0.95, Scallop head, OC. But now after this video, I am a bit confused, like should I take SB or OC? I like aggressive razors, like Muhle R41, Mongoose SE, Rex Ambassador and Fat boy at their highest settings; from that perspective, I was thinking about going towards OC. Please comment.
OC is the righteous path. However if you want to emulate the Fatboy, Rex, R41 etc I would be veering towards the stainless steel OC at 0.95mm. the Titanium is lighter and slightly less aggressive. The titanium SB is much milder even at 0.95mm.
Thanks for your quick reply. I would go for the Ti OC .95 I guess. I want to have a Ti razor in my arsenal, I have Fatboy, Rex, R41 already, so this would be something new. Keep up the good work, would like to see more videos like this.
Awesome vid thx for making, I just received a polished TI95 , sb with scallop head,, amazing razor,, question, have you tried polished version and I wonder how it feels versus matte TI, or SS also versus efficiency Thx in advance
Hiya I believe you can as an ordering link will be provided on the thread (which is accessible without membership). In order to post on a thread I believe you need to be a member. The advantage of being able to post is primarily for my records (incase of any mishaps with the brush) and so that the brush maker has an idea of order numbers.
That 'adjustable' brush wud save all of us quite some money. When y guess it might be available? Why u use blades 1x only, especially as the Feathers improve after the 2nd to 3rd shave... Cheers fm Singapore+
Hi, the brush is a really versatile tool and from a quality brand. Regarding the blades, to be honest I don't know... just a habit. I have only used a feather 3 times ever, I much prefer Astra SP and Polsilver SI blades. Brush is still in it preliminary stages Bernd is going to send it to me for testing, before anything is confirmed. All the up to date info you need is on: ATGshaving.com
