Feet to back foot sweeps are impressive. A foot sweep that sweeps opponent’s foot that has little or no weight bearing takes very little force to cause opponent to fall to mat. Ok too, are foot sweeps when opponent’s foot is blocked or “grabbed” and opponent is pushed or pulled over stationary foot. For me, I knew my set up had failed, when I kick opponent’s foot and it doesn’t move because his weight is supported by that foot. Grab opponent’s hand, arm or head; make opponent take a step. Either just before his step would have touched mat in new location, or just as he steps off old foot location-is good timing for a sweep-because there is little or no weight on his foot. I was not great at sweeps, but just before I began to age out of ability to spar, sweeps captured my interest. Im short, but did not want to shoot to my knees. I would either inside sweep or outside sweep opponents leg into my grasp, so I would not have to shoot to my knees to capture a knee for a leg tackle.
I don’t remember his name, Iranian world champion freestyle wrestler was short and stocky for his weight class. He had excellent outside foot sweeps against top level opponents His timing was amazing. His sweep caught opponents foot as it was stepping-with little or no weight on that leg His sweep (kick-Iranians play a lot of soccer) was powerful and would cause opponent’s swept foot to collide with his other foot-knocking both feet off the mat. He applied some force with his hand grips to cause opponent to hit mat faster than just a gravity fall.
Wow, you Edgewood guys must be off the charts amazing. Beating NCAA finalists from any era with high school guys is an unbelievable feat, especially being able to beat them with JV guys
No, these are all videos from 1996-2011 when the National Wrestling Coaches Association put out a highlight video of the NCAA Division 1 tournament about a month after it was over.
So Short was 35-0 going into the Big 10 finals in 1994? Then he went to NCAAs with a 35-1 record and number 2 seed. The NCAA brackets for 1994 show that Short went 1-2 at NCAAs. Can you imagine being 35-0 at one point and limping to a 36-3 finish while not making All American as the #2 seed?
I'm going to have to disagree with you, they are all hip tosses. A lateral drop is when you fall back from an over-under tie. In these hip tosses the guys are just rotating their hips through, no fall back- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8LYQ5zKTuj8.html. I don't think these are remotely close to slide bys - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vlpwvJzeIVM.html
@@libertyvillewrestling7036 gotta disagree the last one in the front head position is definitely a slide by and not even a throw but a hip toss u actually have to hit your opponents hip with that being said I understand how hard a perfect hip toss is I just wouldn’t call these except maybe 1-2 a hip toss to each there own. 0:33 that’s a hip toss gets hip on hip
@@Inlovewetrust10 We'll have to agree to disagree. The first two couldn't be more classic hip tosses. The last one is questionable for a hip toss. I included it because it was the only NCAA championship match, 118 - 1997 - Whitmer (Iowa) vs. Durlacher (Illinois). They were down on the mat. The only reason why I called it a hip toss rather than a slide by is because Whitmer had an underhook (not a slide by) and he didn't fall back (not a lat drop). But questionable hip toss. The rest could fit in no other category in my mind. But not a worthy argument, all cool moves
I've got that somewhere - no sound, not a great picture. But you will get the point. I'm out of town for several days. When I get back I will send you the link
@@libertyvillewrestling7036 I was on that team. I’ll never forget seeing it in person. It was the most painful thing I’d ever seen. I wish they would have captured that whole finals with sound. Unforgettable. And the fact that Iowa was going for 10 in a row, with the Roman numeral X on their singlet.
The whole championship used to be on RU-vid uploaded by The Wrestling Archives. Since then I don’t know what happened. I wish I could see some of those videos again, but for an unknown reason the channel is not on RU-vid anymore
I got them from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). They put out a highlight video about a month and a half after each year's NCAA tournament between 1996 and 2011. I haven't checked for awhile but I saw a year ago that they still had videos for purchase from several of those years. Check their web site.
They are all from the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Highlight videos they made available shortly after each tournament concluded, maybe a couple of months, from 1996-2011. I checked their web site about a year ago and I believe you can still get some of them
