I review high-quality beauty options suitable for sensitive mature skin.

The goal is to help women like me to find makeup and skincare that will help them look a bit fresher (and maybe even a bit younger), without causing any irritation.

I am age 60; have dry sensitive skin; and have not had any cosmetic procedures such as surgery or injections.

I usually favor quick makeup looks that take 5-10 minutes to complete.

I've researched and used more than a thousand beauty products during the past three years.

I omit products that contain irritating ingredients like synthetic fragrance or chemical sunscreen, but otherwise seek out options from a wide variety of higher-end brands.

My videos show the products up close in natural light, without the use of filters.

In my former life, I worked as a marketing professor and consultant, and before that as a journalist.

My Ph.D. is in marketing from Northwestern University.

Thanks much for visiting my channel and subscribing!

Love, Lisa

Thank you for your very nice reviews. I especially like the ingredients discussions. I'm a HUGE fan of this brand. I agree with you that the chamomile Future Skin is too yellow on you. If i may suggest this: i think you should try alabaster with some vanilla mixed in, or even alabaster with ivory mixed in.

Always great detail & always very informative especially for us 60+. I do love the Jones Road brushes...even after cleaning they keep there integrity. Also my fav eyestick is Bobbie Brown which didn't make list. Was surprise Mob Beauty didn't make any lists as I like all of there lipsticks & eye shadows. I have not tried the Nars lip pencils & will give them a try....but again like you said the Allure best is not always clean products & advertising plays a monetary role. Thanks Lisa & hope your shoulder is healed up.

I neglected to include a slide with the company descriptions of the Lancome palette shades, and so here they are. Midnight Sky: A deep blue with shimmer with glitter inspired by a starry night. Diamond Snowflake: A dazzling silvery-white shimmer with glitter that eminates Parisian winter. Star Glint: A shimmering peach gold that celebrates the golden statues that decorated the most majestic monuments in Paris. Celestial Rose: A glimmering champagne pink which pays homage to the iconic Lancôme rose gold Holiday edition. Mystical Brown: A beautiful brown shimmer reminiscent of walking through beautiful gardens. Paris Starlight: A muted shimmer that captures the city’s sparkling lights and reflections.

Hi Lisa, what are you wearing on your lips? It looks really lovely. I got the WA lipstick trio, and I'm on the fence. The smell and taste don't bother me; I love vanilla and chocolate. It's the formula that I can't get on board with. I am dying to try Merit, but they don't ship to Europe, so I might keep these lipsticks from WA. How do you like Merit lipstick? Do the silicones in it bother you. I like WA because it is very clean.
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews 5 дней назад
I am wearing Lisa Eldridge True Velvet in Velvet Enchantment. She said that she designed this as a red lipstick for people who think that they can't wear red lipstick, and I do think it comes across like that for me. I feel like the Merit matte lipsticks are pretty similar to the Lisa Eldridge True Velvets, though not as expensive and in different colors. I like both of those formulas pretty much equally and use them both really frequently. The Westman Atelier formula seems to be trying for the same sort of feeling, but i do not think that formula is as successful even if I put aside the issue of the taste/smell. The other lipstick in this soft matte category that I really like are the Armani ones. That is too bad that Merit is not shipping to Europe yet! ❤
@anafeller4069
@anafeller4069 4 дня назад
@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews, thank you so much for your answer. The WA lipstick trio will be going back. I really tried to make it work, but they dry out my lips terribly. I would like to try Violette Fr, but I know they don't take stuff back, so that's risky to me, especially when I have to order 100 euros worth of product to qualify for free shipping. Maybe I'll try Lisa Eldridge. Between Merit, LE and Violette, which lipstick is blurring and moisturizing at the same time? I know Westman is the only brand that doesn't have silicones in their lipsticks. Are they really that bad to ingest?
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews 4 дня назад
The lipsticks that usually have silicone in them tend to be mattes, which I guess is why the Westman Atelier matte lipsticks are a little unusual. There are a lot of satin-type lipsticks that do not hae silicone in them, though. It's my understanding that silicone is primarily thought to be problematic for environmental reasons, and I also try to limit the frequency with which I use silicone-based foundations because i feel that it adheres too tightly to my skin. But it may be that swallowing silicone is not a great idea (though whether swallowing other lipstick ingredients is any better, i don't know). I found all the Violette lipsticks that i have tried to be really drying, though I haven't tried the jelly ones yet. I think the Merit and Lisa Eldridge ones are very nice. I did this video on lipsticks maybe 6 months ago, and so perhaps that would give you some ideas with regard to formulas and ingredients. Since then, Nars has released their line of Explicit satin lipsticks and I do like those a whole lot as well. Please feel free to ask more questions if you have them! ❤ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L03amdVKmXc.html

Oh wow I didn’t even notice the smell on this concealer, maybe try not to put it around your nose to avoid getting headaches? With such a little product I only use it for my eyes as it’s too expensive to use it all over the face, I just put foundation all over my face rather. I really like it on my mature under eyes as it’s the second concealer that doesn’t crease after the Madara concealer (my holy grail!), all the other ones crease or look dry on me.
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews 10 дней назад
i did try using the product despite the smell but found that it just kept getting more problematic for me. Which generally is the case with any product that causes any kind of irritation for me - that taking a zero-tolerance policy is always my best strategy, and that attempting to use the products anyway always results in the problems getting worse. Which was the whole impetus for my starting this channel, to find products that actually would work for me without any irritation of any kind. It does seem like ethylene brassylate is one of those scents that is not noticeable or pleasant in small amounts and unpleasant in larger amounts, and that the amount that is needed to be annoying can vary a lot from person to person. i realized that the Pat McGrath blush sticks also contain this ingredient, but that for those, the smell is very faint for me and I had never been bothered by it. And probably I will keep using those. I bet there are some people that are bothered by that much scent too, though. I'm happy for those people who can use the VB product without irritation. Although i will say that the idea that companies that put synthetic fragrance in things can call themselves "clean beauty" does not sit right with me in general. Thanks much for your comment! ❤

@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews I agree on the clean beauty argument 100%! I hope you find the right concealer for you. If you can get hold of the Madara concealer I highly recommend it because it has no smell at least not for my nose but I’m not sensitive to smells unless it’s paint or Chanel foundations which I can’t use because of the strong fragrance in it. Madara it’s a Latvian brand here in Europe so not sure how much the shipping to the US would be but the concealer is not expensive and I have been using it since 2019. BTW I’m not affiliated with that brand I just love that product and I wish more people knew about it.

I'm preparing to do a Westman Atelier video over the next couple of days and am planning to include some comparison footage between WA and Sarah Creal in that. So far I admit that the WA seems to have been making the wrinkles on my face look worse and so that has been a disappointment. In general, I feel like i have teneded to have much more success with cream concealers than with liquid ones, but the Sarah Creal seemed to be an exception to that and I also feel the Saie Slip Tint one has been surprisingly good. (And the VB one looks fabulous - I just wish I were able to tolerate the scent.). I do keep running lists with grades for every concealer I review and so will include those lists in the WA video. Thanks for your comment! ❤ Here is a video that I did last year where I discussed and demonstrated a variety of cream concealers, by the way. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ElKNJLpe1tE.html

I’m a fan of several VB products and wanted to comment. For context, I’m 74 with excellent but dry and sensitive skin. I’ve just tried the new concealer because I use and love a couple of Augustine’s Bader products (the cream gel cleanser and The Cream). For me, the jury is still out as I’ve just started using it, but I wanted to mention that my concealer has no scent at all; perhaps you got a flawed one. The other VB products that I use and have repurchased when I’ve run out are the eye liner pencils which I think are outstanding (and my makeup style is much more subdued than Victoria Beckham ‘s 😌), the cream blushes (I use Major on my fair cheeks), and the lipsticks (Sway, which is more pink than nude, is my favorite). I’ve bought the mascara (in the black glass tube) and like it, but since it easily clumps, I think I’ll keep searching for a holy grail. I also tried 2 eye shadow sticks and love the colors but they are just too sparkly for my 74 year old eyes. Finally I give high marks for VB’s sales and customer service folks. Thank you Lisa for your wonderful channel and great information that’s a rare thing for a woman my age who is still striving to look her best.

I think that some people are just more sensitive to certain kinds of synthetic scents (vanilin, ethylene brassylate, ambrox) than others. Lisa Eldridge said that the vanillin scent in her new lip balms was very light and that 'you may not even be able to smell it,' but I found it to be overpowering enough that it ruined the experience of wearing the product for me. Interestingly, I hardly seem to be able to smell cetalox/ambrox at all, but it nonetheless gives me wicked headaches. With this, the smell seems to be becoming more noticeable each time i use the product, and the headaches keep getting worse. Which is really too bad, because the more that I have tried it and looked at the video footage, the more attracted I have become to how it looks on me, with other products that I usually like coming up way short in comparison. So if you can use it successfully, I am jealous of you! Thanks much for sharing your experiences! I'm really happy that you have been enjoying the channel. ❤

i think that in general, i tend to focus more than is likely good for me on issues with regard to what is wrong with the world, and that part of the reason that i decided to focus more on makeup was because it felt like a refuge from those kinds of stressful thoughts. And so having this line of lipsticks bringing up a variety of problems related to gender - including the fact that a woman has never been President in the U.S. - feels to me like an unwanted intrusion into what i have felt was more of a safe space. And making an effort to look at the situation from a different perspective doesn't really change that. But that doesn't mean that other people feel the same way with regard to this as i do, which is why i asked how others were viewing this.

However, I have found that her eyeliner pencil irritates my eyes. Can you recommend an eyeliner pencil that maybe is less irritating? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also you mentioned, that Jones Rd. does not sell an eyelid primer. Have you found an eyelid primer that you like? Thank-you for all the incredible research that you have done and share with us. i agree that the Jones Road eye pencils have been a little irritating to me, which is unfortunate because they otherwise have performed well for me. The eye pencils that have not been irritating for me and that i feel have performed especially well are the ones from Caliray, Laura Mercier Caviar Tightline and Roen. (They all have nearly identical formulas and appear to be from the same factory.). I actually also like the old gel eyeliner pencils from Bobbi Brown and seem to do fine with those! Haus Labs, Kulfi and Jane Iredale eye pencils also have been okay. I also have liked using the Merit Solo Shadows (with the #2 Merit brush) and the MOB Beauty Cake Eyeliners. i have found that for my mature sensitive dry eyeliners that certain liquid concealers seem to be much more effective as eyelid primers than any products that i have found. i have liked the Saie Slip Tint concealer, the Sarah Creal concealer, and the Haus Labs concealer. Or Kosas also has been okay for me. I'm glad that you have found this channel to be useful!!! ❤

@lisapetrison-beautyreviews
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews 14 дней назад
i am going to do a video on the VB concealer pen shortly (probably the next one up after the Merit one I am currently working on). One thing to know about that is that it has synthetic musk fragrance (ethylene brassylate) in it, as well as some natural processed fragrance (linalool, citronellol, geraniol, rose flower water). And benzyl alcohol, which also has a flowery type scent. i would much, much, much rather that it not have a fragrance, and the ethylene brassylate is tenacious enough that it continues to be noticeable to me long after it is applied. I doubt that i would have bought this if i had known about the ethylene brassylate (synthetic fragrance is on the excluded ingredients for this channel), but I will say that i don't think that the product has been irritating to my face at all. And in terms of the performance, it is lovely - the pen is very nice for spot concealing of things like age spots or blemishes, and it also looks lovely under the eyes. It seems to have a stretchy type consistency and blends really easily into my face, looking like I am wearing nothing. I would not use the VB as an eyelid primer, both because of the scent and because i don't think the consistency is appropriate for that purpose. in general, between the smell and the very high price per gram, i do not see myself buying it again. The Sarah Creal product, on the other hand, is more like an ordinary high-quality concealer, with the added benefits of not emphasizing texture and not being irritating even when i use it as an eyelid primer. It does not take any getting used to and is the sort of concealer that I feel comfortable using regularly. It is pricey but you do get a quite a bit of it in the container. I do like that BB powder! It's too bad that it is so under the radar since I do think a lot of people might do well with it. ❤

Unfortunately it looks like Butuloctyl Salicylate is also not reef safe :( - “causes harm to aquatic life”

Yes, it absolutely does seem that all of the chemical sunscreens (including the unapproved ones that are described as "sunscreen boosters') and the nano zinc/nano titanium dioxide all should not be used in situations where coral reefs are present. Thanks for bringing this up! ❤

@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews Seems like maybe some of the “new wave” chemical filters like Tinasorb & Uvinul that are popular in Korea may possibly be reef safe?
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews 19 дней назад
My observation in general is that the history of the chemical industry tends to be that when specific chemicals are found to be unsafe in various ways, the chemical industry then introduces chemicals that are slightly different but that haven't yet been proven to be unsafe. And then that eventually, the new versions are usually shown to be just as bad as the old ones. Which is all a result of living in a world where chemicals are presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty. So I'm not sure about the Korean sunscreens. i would be interested in seeing if i react to them though, since I do react to all the chemical sunscreens that i have tried so far. ❤

Hi Lisa, will you ever review drugstore "clean" makeup for sensitive skin? Also, I won't be purchasing anything from Sarah Creal based on her political branding.
@lisapetrison-beautyreviews

I do think that it would be nice to find some less expensive products that did not irritate my skin and that performed well. The drugstore makeup line that i have liked pretty much across the board is Honest Beauty. The few products from Persona that I have tried have seemed okay, and the foundation from About Face also seems pretty good for the price. I tried quite a few things from Burt's Bees early on and thought some of it was okay but wasn't crazy about any of it. i have been interested in Flower and Clover but haven't really dug into it yet. I'm open to additional suggestions! ❤

@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews Thank you. I was looking into the Honest Beauty recently actually. I kinda think of Burts Bees as I do Physicians Formula. They both sound and look like "clean" brands but they are not. For instance, I was looking into the Physicians Formula powder blushers and bronzers, some have talc, aluminium hydroxide and frangrance. I've never heard of Flower and Clover. I will look into it. Thank you for your detailed feedback. I admire your input and your research.

I have come to rely on your advice on makeup products. With mature sensitive very fair skin with cool undertones I have found it hard to find suitable and beautiful makeup. Like you I did not use a lot of makeup in my younger days, but now it feels an important way to look as good as possible. I’m 57. I got the RMS Beachwalk Betty bronzer on your kind advice and it’s the first bronzer that has ever worked for me. I used Bobbi Brown Antiqua bronzer before, but it never felt right. Thank you so much ❤ I’m very interested in your review of Kosas new brightening powders in the same quality as their normal powder. Especially Candy (pink). They also come in other tones. Peach and something else. Just a wish here from Denmark 😊 I hope you are still recovering well. Wish you the best.

i did look at the new Kosas brightening powders at Sephora the other day. The pink is supposed to be for fair/light skin; there is a yellow one for medium skin tones; and a peach one for darker skin tones. In general i do tend to like pink powders, because I feel that they give a little bit of extra life to my face in general. I do think that women can look a little sallow as they get older as a result of decreased blood flow to the surface of the skin, and that a pink powder can be a subtle way to address that. I have really liked the Jones Road and MOB Beauty pink powders, and there are a few more pink powders out there that i also am trying. In this case, though, I feel that the pink powder came across as really light on my skin, even more light than a typical translucent powder, and didn't look very pink. That was a surprise because the photos made it look like it was going to be quite pink. My impression from what Kosas has said is that this is not really intended as an overall face powder but just for brightening certain parts of the face such as under the eyes, and I'm not so sure that i like my undereyes brightened (e.g. i haven't used the Nars product much even though the formula seems nice). There were a few other new pink powders at Sephora that were just released - one from Makeup By Mario (though I bought the peach one in that) and one from Tower 28 (which was not as pale as the Kosas one). But i do really like the Kosas formula and may end up buying the new pink one just to experiment. They are having a 20% off promotion at the moment (at least in the US) and so maybe now would be a good time. I'm really happy that you have found my channel useful!!! ❤❤

Thanks for the new video . I saw on line Sarah C’s line at Sephora. The spf is very deceiving so that makes me not want to try the brand Love the face products on you, so natural , Dior, bb and Tom ford . I think I’ll try the Dior face palette , looks great . I don’t care for named lippies as it seems to be politics mixing. With makeup . I use skin care and makeup to forget about the problems of the world and relax , not to advertise politics. NARS names really deemed ridiculous as my daughter started makeup and shopping for NARS with teens was a real treat . Having to explain every shade turned me off from their gimmick . Maybe I’m too serious , but when it comes to younger girls. I won’t buy it . Still haven’t purchased the jones road pencil , and it looks so good on you . I bought the WA CONCEALER , only because I have deep circles . It’s working out , just a few tries .Have you tried it? Still in the 90’s here so I’m anxious to switch to Fall skincare / makeup . Ilia’s serum is great now and thinking it’ll be great in cold weather . I am researching for a Korean or Japanese dupe / close to it , as there are many new ones out. Thx ! Hope each day is stronger & easier . Today I got a new COVID vaccine & flu shot , so hope you get them soon if you agree with them! lol ❤❤❤❤

Thanks as always for your comment! It does seem that especially as young girls become more interested in the whole beauty shopping experience that a lot of people do feel uncomfortable with all those Nars shade names. I do have the Westman Atelier concealer and have been liking it, and so hopefully I can do a video on that soon, 💗

It’s so nice to see you putting on makeup again, Lisa! Glad you’re healing journey is going well. I used up my Lisa Eldridge foundation and moved on to the Tom Ford concealer for foundation. You are absolutely right; I really enjoy using it that way! I’m 67 and don’t mind the blend of feminist terms with shade names at all. NARS on the other hand, tries too hard, like “orgasm” blush. Beautiful blush, stupid name. Madame President, and She e o, are kind of clever I think.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. It does seem like an awfully lot of people think that it is time for Nars to pursue a new naming strategy. I do think it would be unfortunate if not liking those names is keeping people from buying the products because pretty much across the board, i really am impressed with their formulas. 💗
