What a WONDERFUL episode!!! I learned the real intention of my favorite "Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”. Which has blown me away. If I ever sing that song again, and I will, I have a WHOLE different perspective to work with because of this wonderful, wonderful episode!! Keep up the good work!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I really, REALLY want them to give Fiyero the diamonds in his skin, though I doubt they have done that seeing the trailer. It's such a small detail that I really want them to include.
That issue of Playboy is the only issue I have ever owned, and I still have it today. I first saw her in The Jerk, one of my favorite comedies of all time. She has been my favorite actress of all time. She has such an amazing singing voice.
Judas was heavily mentioned in the gospels and not in a negative light. He is just not mentioned or is portrayed negatively in 4 of the 22 gospels. The church turned Judas into a stand in caricature of the Jews in order to distance the church from the outside perception of Christians being heretical Jewish cultists. Alot of later depictions of Judas in Christian art double downs on this by showing him with exaggerated features such as a large hooked nose, protruding brow, sunked eyes, a swarthy complexion, and dark tight curls. A lot of Byzantine artwork also places Judas into demon poses normally used to show the corrupting influence of a devil while often giving him a more snake like tounge and only showing him in side profile.
Holy crap that first interview was rough. Was that common behavior in the 80's to talk to someone like that? Im genuinely shocked that someone talked to anyone like that, let alone Patti. Does Patti have star power? are you kidding me. No wonder Patti says whatever the hell she wants in interviews now, that was brutal.
I am a huge fan of theatre, especially musical theatre! I too love Cabaret. I was lucky enough to do this play I while studying the Theatre Production. Now I can indulge in the history and totally geek out!
Funny Girl is Barbra Streisand and Barbra Streisand is Funny Girl. The ticket buyers wanted Streisand and if they couldn’t have the original a faux Streisand like Leah Michelle would do just fine. The ticket buying crowd would overlook the fact that there was absolutely no chemistry between the two leads and Beanie being short and fat, but will not forgive a bad singer with a little voice(at best) singing a score that was tailored to the Streisand voice and personality. You can’t gaslight the public into believing that Beanie’s comic chops are more important than singing a score. The public as a collective whole understands “the truth.” I saw the production 4 times, 2 times with Beanie in preview and once after opening night and then again with Leah in September. I was consistent with my opinion on Beanie’s performance and believability in the roll and it was bad. What I still don’t understand is why everyone acted as though I was fat shaming Beanie because I said she was lousy. Leah was tremendous in portraying Barbra Streisand portraying Fannie Brice.
I find it so interesting how art can be interpreted. I think cabaret is a great example of not only political apathy- but outside of that, as a play in general, it demonstrates how art can be perceived and interpreted in so many ways, yet still bring across the same message. I absolutely adore cabaret, and I think on some level, all versions of it are valid to their own right. They are all a demonstration of comprehension: how humans understand world events such as WWII, and how that affects people not only then, but today.
"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts."
