Hello! My name is Bea and I've started my journey of upcycling furniture in late 2020. I have always loved recycling and upcycling, and I've found my real interest in furniture upcycling and renovation. I simply love to see how an old piece turns into a modern one, saving them from the landfill. At the moment it's a part-time passion for me, but I'm working on turning it into a full-time love. I'm hoping to open my own shop one day, but until then, I'm selling my pieces online. I'm still a beginner, but I love experimenting and learning new techniques. Follow me on my journey :) Bea
If you would like to support me, there are some useful items on my Amazon Wishlist below, that would help me with future projects. Thank you!
It was an editing failure on my part! The song is longer than the last part of the video, and I only realised that my editor didn’t cut it after I posted the video. 🙈 I hope you still enjoyed the video 🥰 (and the extra song! 😂)
Thank you so much! I love that too!! I’m trying to make more furniture when I leave the wood natural and only use paint to help highlight the wood 🥰 I love to see the wood grain! 😍
This came out beautiful! I have an old maple dresser that was my great grandmothers and the top is warped, so I’m going to try your method on evening it out! I absolutely love the color that you painted this piece. I live at the beach and this piece that I am doing is going to be in my grandsons bedroom so I am looking to do a color similar to this that you did but more of a sea greenish-blue! I love your ideas and your pieces! 👌🏽🥰
Hello, Thank you so much for your lovely comment! 🥰🥰 I hope it's going okay if you tried it since! If you haven't painted yet, I can highly recommend this paint: Fusion Mineral paint - Seaside, I think that colour would be close to what you might like. Have a look at my other video where I use that paint, it's called "40 years old display set makeover" 🥰
Great video again, love this piece! With fusion mineral lids i used to have the same problem, if the lid is stuck on use a sanding pad to grip the lid, but to prevent it sticking put cling film between the lid before you put it away,.
you did a great job on such a huge piece! How did you work out a price for the customer as its not a quick job to do this, in my experience customers never appreciate how much time and effort goes into doing something!
Thank you! Well, I calculated how much hours I estimate it will take, times the payment per hour that I want to charge. Then I doubled the figure that I got, because I have poor time judgement, and I knew it was gonna take a lot more time, especially because I'm very perfectionist. Plus because these sets are really expensive if bought brand new. Then I added materials and fuel cost for picking it up and delivering. 😊 Yes, I just "lost" a potential customer because I asked for a certain amount to be paid in advance (cost of furniture plus cost of materials only) and she only wanted to pay on delivery, which is too high of a risk for me. It's worth waiting for the customer who appreciates our time and effort. 😊
I don't often approve of painting wood furniture, but this looks great painted. I love the color. And the piece appears to never have been finished?? It's not an antique or designer piece. Neither is pine a particularly valuable wood for finishing. So painting is not only acceptable, but attractive on it!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! 🥰 When I started upcycling I was all about painting furniture as that's what I could think of. But now I'm more into keeping it natural wood and applying the paint as an accessory or decoration: to help highlight the beauty of the piece and the wood. I agree with you, I do think it needed the paint 😁
Hey do you have any tips for moving warped drawers? I spotted a gorgeous dressed outside a charity shop but it's been left outside for weeks can't get the drawer closed to fit in car?
Hi! 😁 Warped wood is a bit tricky. First I would dry it out, leave it in a warm place for a few days, probably a week. Then the drawers should close theoretically. You can also use a hairdryer or heatgun on low setting. If after drying it still doesn't close, you can remove some wood from the bottom of the drawer using a wood planer, until it closes. If it's a bit stiff when it slides, you can apply some candle wax on the bottom of the drawer ad it will slide smoothly. If I didn't answer your question, or you have another question, then message me on Instagram and we can discuss it further 😁
It's definitely a must! It makes life so much easier! There wasn't, only in a few areas. I have used a lot of the paint, but it's just because I haven't got the experience with it yet. But it's the best £50 I have ever spent 😁
Thank you so much! Yes, I kove it too! Originally, my idea was to paint it white and have it all light coloured, but when I primed, it didn't look right. So my hubby was helping with the colours 😁 It already sold yesterday 🥰
The shellac on your brush should clean off with denatured alcohol (undrinkable alcohol used as a solvent or fuel; one gallon costs about $15-20) If the distinct open grain under the paint on the sides isn’t a look you had in mind, you could consider a grain filling powder mixed with water and wiped over the whole area before priming over it, or applying the grain filler over the first coat of primer and doing a second. Congrats on the quick sale! I really like the style of the piece.👍
One other thing you can use to clean brushes and such is ammonia. I prefer to use that for my paint sprayer vs my brushes. I will say, denatured alcohol smells a whole lot better! Thanks for that tip! I totally forgot about that!
Lovely. I have added some black base to a can of my undercoat turning it grey. This undercoat I use on furniture I’m painting with dark colours so it gives a better coverage.
