I'm just curious to know why you would put a white primer if you're painting it dark? Does bleed through only happen with dark furniture when you paint it white? So, in this case it wouldn't be necessary. I'm not trying to be rude in any way. I once did this and when the paint started to chip or get knicks you could see the white paint. I didn't like that. I'm still learning.

Thank you for the question, it's actually a really good question 😁 Bleed throughs usually happen when the resin from the bare wood shows through the paint. Usually bleed throughs only show on white/light colour pieces, that's true, because when the furniture is painted dark, it then hides the bleed throughs, but I like to use primer for better adhesion in general. 😁 I wanted to prime this piece because I wanted to make sure that the paint sticks to the furniture properly. I could've probably just applied the paint straight to the bare wood, but I didn't want to risk the paint peeling off. I could've used a grey colour primer, which would've been darker. Or I could've used a clear shellac, but I haven't found that in the UK yet. 😁 You can also mix up the paint with the primer, to colour the primer, but I didn't have enough paint for that. 😁 I know what you mean with the white showing through when the paint gets chipped, maybe next time you can try clear shellac or grey primer, or try and tint the white primer with paint. I'm also still learning after 5 years, haha, and I don't think I will ever stop learning. Every furniture is different, so means different challenges, but that's just the fun of it. 😁

you did a great job on such a huge piece! How did you work out a price for the customer as its not a quick job to do this, in my experience customers never appreciate how much time and effort goes into doing something!

Thank you! Well, I calculated how much hours I estimate it will take, times the payment per hour that I want to charge. Then I doubled the figure that I got, because I have poor time judgement, and I knew it was gonna take a lot more time, especially because I'm very perfectionist. Plus because these sets are really expensive if bought brand new. Then I added materials and fuel cost for picking it up and delivering. 😊 Yes, I just "lost" a potential customer because I asked for a certain amount to be paid in advance (cost of furniture plus cost of materials only) and she only wanted to pay on delivery, which is too high of a risk for me. It's worth waiting for the customer who appreciates our time and effort. 😊
