When I was in 6th Grade I bought my first Tijuana Brass Albums and The Mason Williams Phonograph Album (because it contained Classical Gas). When I got into 7th and 8th Grades, it was 3 Jim Croce albums right in a row. I loved his stuff so much, and still do.
I was on my hospital bed, recovering from a hip replacement when a friend who had MS sent me the link. I watched it every day during my recovery, and I have shared it with countless friends and people I know. Looking at the people playing puts a smile on my face every time: young, middle age, old(ish), guys, girls, all together having a great time, smiling and having FUN. This video will stay in a special place in my heart..... The power of music (and Rock N Roll!)
Paul mgrath sir u will only ever understand the adoration of u when u realise 5 million . Of us turn to alcohol to dampen our pain u just happened to b the greatest ambassador
I can't tell if it's a lip sink or just the typical quality of an 80's video. Seems like the latter, if I remember correctly. Either way, she had to record this for real at one point, and good lord, what a F' - in voice!!
Yeah, my younger days in a nutshell. What a great city it was in its own odd way. Brush Sheils at the Baggot Inn and bottles of Guinness in Phoenix Park. The Gaity Green. Christ on a bike, I loved that place.
He was sure on a run for a few years there. As a little kid in the early 70s it seemed like his records were on the radio constantly for a while. Wrote sad "relationship" songs and character study/cameo portrait story-songs. I can only think of one truly "happy" song of his, "I Had To Say 'I Love You' In A Song." Roller Derby Queen was happy but more the cameo-portrait genre. I knew all of his hits as a kid, and had an 8-track tape of his greatest hits that I wore out in our family car. I learned to play all of them on guitar. I don't think he lived long enough to show us if he was truly great as a songwriter, though. The great ones are the ones who can do it for more than an album or two, and sadly he died before we could see if he had anything left in the tank after this great run. I think looking back, his style was pretty narrowly focused, but maybe that would have changed if he'd lived longer and stayed in the music business. Of the great singer-songwriter guitar guys of that era, I rank him below Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon, and James Taylor, but as I say, it's not a fair comparison because we didn't get to see his maturation and development.
I was alive then but missed this because SNL was stupid even back then. I can only say that if I had seen it I'm sure it wouldn't have changed my life at all.
Greetings from Chicago🌱 This is the sweetest letter I’ve ever read on the internet🎈 As a singer-songwriter and self taught jazz composer ; I can tell you…… this is what you hope someone will say about you….. 🎯 “ healing others “……is the only reason we sing👀 By the way….. Mr. Croce heard you…… ❗️ Don’t you know that : All expressions of love ECHO THROUGHOUT ETERNITY….. ❗️❗️❗️❗️ and find the ears ….. and touches the heart of those intended ❓❓ Our entire family tree…. our ancestors know us very well ❗️ They are ALWAYS in our corner…… wishing us the best ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️ This phenomenon is expressed in “physics “this way: “ Energy never dies….. it just changes form🧚🏼 “ In scripture; it’s expressed this way: “ The meek ones will inherit the earth🌎” And…….. nooooooo, you don’t have to be a religious person to benefit from this………. The universe knows we all had a pretty rough time in life……….. so….. it’s arranged a time….. when we can …… start over…… in a wonderful, fresh world, with all our ancestors…. alive and well…… no more war, diseases, or death…. Just…. the best of us…… our loved ones….. …….. in a world filled with JOY ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️ ( sounds completely nutty I know………..but… it’s a promise made long ago in the Garden of Eden 🏝️) So, Don’t give up being that special person who REALLY ABSORBS PHENOMENAL MUSIC LIKE MR.CROCE’S❗️❗️ Draw closer to LOVE…. in your journey as time goes by…… and remember: THE BEST IS YET TO COME🕯️ God bless, 🎼 RAIN AGAIN 🎼
I don’t understand why SNL would want them to play lesser-known song? (irregardless if it’s about “Britain in America”)(barely any people comprehend the true meaning of the lyrics of the song, anyway,) Was “Radio Radio” a “Hit” at this time? or was it an unknown song? And was this the first or the second song they played that night? I assume it was their second song. if so, then what was the first song they played that night?
Quentin Tarantino said he didnt want to answer the question and the reporter should have moved on... also with RDJ... like im sure he could sense these questions were not wanted. They both went to promote their movies and both got bombarded with irrelevent questions. This reporter is gonna have a hard time ever getting a celeb to interview if this is how he conducts his interviews.
Very shortly before their deaths I think. What a privilege it was for those who were there, hearing two such brilliant young musicians. I hope they treasure the memory. Even nowadays I still get upset about the so so sad and horribly unfair deaths of Jim and Maury.
