"apologies for the slightly warm attire" was so weird when I first encountered it. Like how dare he just sit there talking while wearing his slightly warm attire.
He definitely delisted it(made it private only) because he felt the old english spoken in it was inaccurate, and didn't want to mislead people. @bobstephens5599
As a 37 year old Ex-PhD-student of Ancient History now gravely in love with Functional Programming… I aspire to be like Irving Finkel, too. Not the looks, mind you, but his kindness, knowledge and his humour are all quite endearing 😄
Why do all us antiquarian humanists - those with at least one humanities degree and a persistent interest in ancient languages or history - fall for FP? I'm a Classics major/ex-Arabist who's read a significant part of the Greek corpus (not to mention plenty of Classical Arabic literature and Hebrew too). I got so frustrated with procedural programming in Python that I wrote an FP that compiled into Python. Out of sheer rage at tedious programming.
Dr. Finkel is what happens when you lean apologetically into what you love. Suddenly the most obscure thing becomes fascinating to everyone around you.
