Most farmers now days use an acid to help in baling wet hay. ( propaonic acid ) Nothing wrong with its use. However make the comparison buy offering a cow naturally dried hay compared to the large tight bales where hay would spoil unless you use an acid. Hands down the cows will eat the naturally dried hay !! Hay treated with acid stinks ! My cows production dropped like a rock when I tried to feed these large bales. I called around to find naturally dried hay. It dont exist ! I had two semi loads of which I refused. The cows would not even look at that hay. How is a dairy farmer suppose to profit feeding that hay ? Since then.... 17 yrs ago.....I switched to baleage hay. Major change in my dairy farming operation......and great production. It takes the weather risk out of baling hay. Cut it and bale it the same day. Also....you can almost gain another 1/2 crops of hay per year because your on the field and off in a day. Compared to up to four days of tire traffic with getting hay dry. If you have 4 cutting per year....save three days of tire traffic...thats 12 days.... extra growing time !
Silage bales are fine for dairy cattle I'm sure they're WAY better than acid-treated hay for sure. BUT, this is EXPORT hay, so they want it DRY. Later! OL J R :)
Most farmers know what they're doing when it comes to making hay and don't need to add acid to it lol The acid is used by the lazy, non educated folks.
@@farmcentralohio That would include 100% percent of the farmers that bale large square bales then ( over 50% of the hay baled ). Square bales are packed so tight they cant breath. They will mold /rot if baled with no acid.
@@farmcentralohio Not about being smart.....just reality. Here in Northeastern Iowa over 50% of the hay sold at local auctions are large squares. Its because of the " wide load " issues relating to permits in hauling hay. Round bales are too wide....squares are of size to haul with out permits. Each town/ city / county/ and a state permit is needed to haul over sized loads. Major expense to haul large rounds !
So... How do they compare to steel finger flail conditioner??? We had one, loved it!!! Worked well in grass, clover and alfalfa. Biggest Question, how much to convert a New Holland H7230?????
this is in Central Washington, a area which gets around 10 to 12 inches of moisture a years, and very little rain in the Summer months, and lots of 80 to 100 temps and wind. can't bale over 12% moisture, on 120lbs bales, 6 to 10% is desire.
@@carmineredd1198 Very simple..bale it wet...make baleage out of it ! Cut and bale it the same day ! Very high quality long stemmed hay ! I was told it would kill a horse until one day I got a phone call asking me how many bales I had to sell... I asked what she was going to use it for. She told me she feeds it to her horses. Had done that for 10 years. The real problem is...most farmers are stuck in their old ways of doing things. Wont change !
@@stevenbetassa7329 The simple answer it to bale it wet....baleage hay ! Cut it and bale it the same day.. very high quality feed. No leaf loss.....and still long stemmed. Best feed a person can have ! Done it for 17 years !
Id agree.....this is foolish!!!!!! Living in Iowa where its very humid during the summer..... still get hay dry in a few days....not 3 and 4 days ! Go balage hay.......much better quality......no leaf loss.or stem loss. Cut and bale the same day....on and off the field provides for almost an extract crop per year. Should be able to get 6 crops per year !
@@hairymanonetwo not everyone likes baleage, some animals don't do well on it either... In NW Oregon, e en silage takes a day or two to get wilted down, most silage will be ten or more tons per acre. Our grass hay runs 4+ tons per acre. And we have ground moisture. We currently have a New Holland with rubber rolls, don't like it. It takes 5 to 8 days, usually tedding twice. We had a John Deere with the flail conditioner, with that we made 3 or 4 day hay...
@@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin When I first started using baleage My vet told me it would kill horses. Later found out he had no idea what he was talking about ! In fact its one of the better feeds for horses. Just have to feed it limited. The reason most people dont like baleage is because they refuse to change their ways or even try something new. Im familiar with weather conditions. Here in Iowa this year its been extremely wet. Rains almost every day. Still.... most days I cut and bale the hay the same day. Mostly depends on if I can get on the ground to do the work.Question: ......why windrow the hay in tight windrows ? In my 15 years doing baleage...Ive never tedded the hay. Biggest issue is making sure its raked at least 2 hours before baling. Many balers cant bale it wet. If raked 2 hours before baling it changes everything !
@@hairymanonetwo this is Central Washington, raising Timothy hay, most it it will be exported to the Far East. baling requires 6 to 12% moisture, on 120lbs 3tie bales. We have very little rain in the Summer months, temps are 80 to 100 and low humidity, and lots of winds.
@@hairymanonetwo Dry hay sold for export changes everything-- nobody is gonna pay to haul all the extra water tonnage in wrapped balage, and deal with handling issues and spoilage issues from punctured wrap. TOTALLY different kind of haymaking. Later! OL J R :)
So if you were to stack 3 3x3 bales using this stacker and since the load table is flat what is going to keep the bales from falling over either forward or backwards on hilly fields or bumpy fields?
