Funny you should mention Hendrix. Ya know, Clarke AND Cobham AND DiMeola all recorded their first few solo albums back then at Hendrix 's still fresh Electric Ladyland recording studios in NYC. If only HE hadn't carelessly essentially od'd himself w/sleeping pills & wine at PRECISELY the WRONG moment in music history! He was desperate for a new musical direction - even seeking a collaboration w/Gil Evans & Miles Davis [that fell through]. He jammed with McLaughlin & Larry Coryell among others. You just KNOW that he would've been in his new studio jamming w/these new guys- finally, players who could keep up with & challenge him on his own level. And you KNOW there at least COULD have been guest crossover album appearances, collaborations like McLaughlin/Santana (which I was lucky enough to see), live tours together, etc. It could have changed the whole mainstream popularity, success, and longevity of the jazz-fusion genre simply because of Jimi's involvement. The press pretty much fawned over him like a god-icon, & hardly dared to criticise anything he did. Sadly, we were GYPPED out of that by a VENGEFUL LITTLE BITCH-BINT OF A PUNITIVE GOD[DESS] who instead spitefully CURSED us with roller DISCO music and Elton John, among other atrocities!!!!!!😢😂 It just AIN'T RIGHT!! R.I.P.: Jimi, SRV, and vintage fusion.
Stanley's touch is so soft, and economical. Everyone thinks you have to bleed out playing as hard as you can. You can accomplish much more by taking a breath, and playing in control.
Very nice combo with great players (OMG) a young and swingin" Chick and Ron Carter in excellent upright bass form...great to not only hear, but see Bill and Company after having heard of them, but having not seen or heard them when I became emersed in JAZZ in Middle school!. Thnx so muchh for posting this video.
Jeff Beck was the lead guitarist on this album that came out after Stanley did a one man show that sold out for an entire week at Carnegie Hall where all he did was play a series of bass guitars. 😎
Is March the Third in 2024 my comment about Stanley Clarke he is one of the best bass player I ever heard however he created other guys like Marcus Miller who is taking it to another level
I saw this Soundstage show on TV in '76 in Chicago. It was broadcasted from the WTTW Studios at Northeastern University. I lived for that show being a fusion freak, it was like a dream come true seeing it back then. It was the same year that I saw Return to Forever at the Arie Crown Chicago . . . on a double bill with Weather Report! Below is the 1 hour Downbeat Jazz Awards show. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r1v9qV1v4-c.html
