@@kenfrench6866, check again. Lenny will always have it, too. And his RTF stuff is legend. But this? This is Billy. You can tell by the glasses, the higher tuned drums, the blistering single-stroke rolls and the snare sound. [Not to mention the original poster's notes.]
@@CMC050Stanley was more revolutionary than Jaco. Jaco emulated an upright bass. Stanley invented that bass tone he uses. No one sounded like that at the time. Stanley would get standing ovations waking on stage! I love Jaco, but Stanley was a much greater impact on bass at the time.
I remember watching this on TV in '76 - recording it on some shi**y cassette recorder. Such a time we live in that I can watch this whenever and wherever I want. Wow
Stanley truly has his own beautiful harmonic fingerprints. He is one of those rare musicians that are easily recognizable because of their tone, expression and note choices
An All-Star band!!! WOW!!! Stanley Clarke is one of the most original bassists that has ever played the bass and the main reason why I started playing bass!!! My very first concert was seeing Tony Williams Lifetime opening for Stanley Clarke!!! Often imitated but never duplicated!!! An incredible bassist with mind-blowing musicianship!!!
I remember seeing this show back in the day. I just got that first Stanley Clarke album and no one was playing bass like that in those days...Jaco's fame was right around the corner. Fusion was at its zenith. Being a bassist I just perchased my first fender percision bass. Stanley and Chick were my heros. Jean Luc Ponty was very popular and Billy Cobham was the tee shirt wearing drummer from the Mahavishna Orchestra. Those were the days!!
My sister became an audiophile her freshman year of college. I went with her to a high end stereo store, and a salesman played "School Days" to demonstrate some speakers!! I was like "WTF??!" 😳😳😳
Wow. This is amazing. I've never seen it and I love these guys. I've seen them all, but never together. This has to be one of the coolest things ever recorded. Thanks, U-tube, and many thanks to whoever posted this!
🙏🏾🙂 I Been Looking for this Tape for Years. I remember Seeing it On PBC Network around 1976. 😁 and was Interduce to Jean-Luc Ponty. A Great Violinist. I Knew Everyone else. But to hear and See Lopsy Lu Live. Was a Dream Come True. 🙂🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Louise F. Your quet right, he was very Young but very serious and funky and sexy, but foremost a good bassplayer, just look at the Company he keeps, Chick, Jean luc and who Else? Simply the Best!
Stanley's touch is so soft, and economical. Everyone thinks you have to bleed out playing as hard as you can. You can accomplish much more by taking a breath, and playing in control.
+Kevin Shepard For me it was Soundstage. Stanley and Chick - not sure the rest of the band. Soundstage was the shite back then! First time I ever saw Waits was on Soundstage as well.
4 of the Best to share their talents in their musical instruments blending together . This blows the music away today this is true Talent. you notice they allow each other to express themselves in professionally matter. . Bringing out the best sound.
What a fantastic performance. I first heard Stanley Clark when he collaborated with Jeff Beck for a short period of time. Seldom heard on conventional radio but did hear it on FM underground radio. Love this!!!
This is what happens when you put 4 innovators together listening 2 each other and expressing themselves! And it's Fucking catchy and funky! I like the album version with Tony Williams and Ian Hammer too. Cobhams fills are so powerful and fast! But it fits and his feeling and soul always pouring out of him. Obviously I think Cobhams one of the most original drummers of the 70's to now and beyond!? I really hope these guys play or make an album someday soon! we are loosing a lot of the greatest Musician,, legends like Allan Holdsworth, Just this past week!jGeorge Duke in 2013 I think 🤔 It would be awesome if this line up recorded at least one-time tune before it's too late to!
laz4erin laz my man ur right i did have good fortune of seeing all these katz in their own bands n individually so fortunate in 70s there was a small theater downtown pitts pa callef the Stanley seen m all niles dizzy yellow jackets brand x ramsey lewis deodato jack mcduff mahavishnu orch weather report herbie hancock man... 70s great time
Clarke...Lu Ponty...Cobham and Corea....Young Folks pay attention...this is akin to watching...Jordan...Jabbar...Magic and Bird...on the same team...God Bless...My Favorites...
A very clean recording than I previously found! You don't know how long I've been looking for this very performance! I thank you! I saw this performance on pbs when I was 15 and loved this song. My brother played bass and could follow this song easy. Between this and the album, this is my all-time favorite version of the song. Once again, "THANK YOU"
ive seen everyone of these guys together r seperate all at oll Stanley theatre pitts pa in early 70s damn good shows one in all didnt know this existed til today wtf where have i been? ty for upload
Jeff Beck was the lead guitarist on this album that came out after Stanley did a one man show that sold out for an entire week at Carnegie Hall where all he did was play a series of bass guitars. 😎
